...are your kids not able to pick up their own mess/gifts, stuff, and help you out?...

Anyone else leave it be for today and enjoy the chaos just a little? I put on any new fuzzy or comfy items I got and watch the kids play with their new toys. I did the dishes out of necessity, but that’s it. It can wait!

I now spend Christmas alone and like it. I get to order a meal or make something simple, and watch some movies while doing craft and Photoshopping old photos for new artwork. There’s no family drama and I get a pressie that I want after a lifetime of asking “Do these people actually know me?”. Some may feel this is selfish and not a special day that’s designed to be spent with friends and family. After a 32yr marriage to a narcissist I just want and need peace and happy memories and to reset and to me that is the Christmas. I removed the stigma of being alone for Christmas too. I also find I don’t over eat or buy excessively which is a bonus. It’s interesting that you were saying, “It’s (Christmas) over now.” I used to get so stressed with Christmas until I realised it was one day and one meal. Obviously there are a lot of family/school/work obligations at this time but the concept of one meal and one hit me hard and since then I don’t worry about it or think everything has to be perfect to enjoy it and to only have lovely people in my life instead of someone that wrecks every special occasion. ❤

I’m probably a bad person because I value order and tidiness do highly that rather than feel joy over Christmas, I find myself wishing it away, so I can get back to a level that doesn’t trigger me. Xx

Great video! Was ready for a clean up. Lol. I do always wonder why today we treat christmas like a one day event. It's supposed to be 12 days starting on the 25th. This year I had the privilege of celebrating from an Orthodox christian perspective and it was a real eye opener. They start a fast November 15th up until Dec. 25, it's a time of prayer and mediation. They observe different events that lead up to the birth of Christ. While the rest of the world is in the hustle and bustle of the events, treats, and shopping, they are contemplating and restricting. Come the 25th, while the rest of us had had enough and ready for it to end, for them Christ is born! and that's when the feasting and celebrating begins all through January 7th where they celebrate Theophany, the Baptism of Jesus Christ. It's absolutely beautiful and Christmas this year was more meaningful than ever and still celebrating❤

Dawn I have a question. If you weren't filming this would you rally the troops to help or do you prefer to do it alone? I know I sometimes prefer to reorder the environment when I have the house all to myself...brings me peace!

I'm tucking away Santa and elf décor today. They've all headed back to the North Pole. But I can enjoy my two small (faux) trees - with micro-lights alone, along with any animal figures, through the coming wintery months. Likewise, the faux greenery on my door is seasonal and shall remain in place - probably until March.

We have had our DeLonghi for over 18 years and we love it. It was a gift from my BIL and it was top of the line back then. When we need another coffee maker we will be buying another DeLonghi. With a doubt the best appliance I’ve ever had. ☕️

When I don’t get around to the Christmas gifts I’ve planned for others, I try to turn them into New Years gifts or Valentine gifts. I know that’s not always possible if the gift is holiday specific though.

First thing I did this morning (after my shower) was start decluttering. I grabbed a plastic dish pan and went around the house collecting Christmas decor. The dish pan went into my storage room (I'll get to it later). Right now though my house is back in order and it feels good. My house is cleared and so is my brain. I freeze extra candy to make treat bags for Fed Ex, UPS, mail carrier, and our neighbors. It takes up little room and I always have a "thinking of you" gift on hand. I use my IP. My sister prefers a slow cooker.

You'd have to go out an purposely buy extra stuff so you can have stuff to show to keep making these video's. Else, you'd be making video's from an empty house.

The chopper is good for people who have reduced hand function to cut and chop. One onion, I can dice whatever size I desire and only a knife and cutting board to clean. As you said for volume veggie heavy chopping, I'll go with the chopper. Be mindful of what you normally cook before buying any appliance beyond stovetop or oven pots and pans and baking items. Coffee makers usually have reusable cups that you can fill with coffee grounds with or without tiny paper liners. Our season of life has changed our diet and the regular oven died. We discovered a tabletop air fryer/broiler/bake oven (Emeril Lagasse dual door) works great for us. Easy to set and forget as you set the timer...and it shuts off. Same goes for an instant pot. Set it and forget. Great for eggs and brown rice. And fast meals if you get or have racks to separate foods to all cook separately, but together....so it isn't just soup or stews.

I have 3 grown children and 3 grandchildren and yet on Christmas Eve, I sighed, and my husband asked what was wrong. And I said, "Do you think our parents felt overwhelmed and not ready for Christmas like I do right now?" And he was like, "What? Why?" And I told him how ill-prepared I felt to host Christmas for our kids and grandkids the next day. Was the table set Ok, was the food going to be enough, was there enough gifts for everyone ....". You know what, it all turned out great. No one noticed if something wasn't up to my expectations because they didn't know. And it was all good. Had a great day.

Ugh, legos! How much inventory of Lego do you keep on hand? My husband won’t let me get rid of any and more just keeps coming through the door. Im hoping to find a way to stop more from coming in and just use what we have but man, it’s an uphill battle in my house.

I threw away 5 old books. I love books, and it's blasphemy to do that. But honestly, I didn't want to drive 18 miles one way, donate them, and then drive back. And I certainly didn't want to have a pile of books sitting by the door for who knows how long. I'd missed grabbing them during my last donation, and that's okay. Because it worked for me, and I'm the only one I have to please. I love my rice maker, had it for years. Toss in the rice/water/spices, start it and wander back later and it's ready. That way I'm not wasting time hovering over the stove.

I was so stressed about Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. But I felt soooo much better after asking our families to bring a pot luck dish to the dinners. The appreciation from the hosts and guests was very much part of our evenings. The adult grandchildren took control of the preparation, serving and cleaning up. I decided maybe I could do another Christmas in 2025 with their help. And yes my declutterred house was less work and decorating prior the evening with little cleaning afterwords. I have been binge your KZbin episodes. I am up to 2 years..Thank you Dawn for your advice. It really works. Happy New Year to you and all your loved ones.

That is such a cool “God thing”! To provide more than 3 times what we hoped for. Jesus loves these ladies and their kids so very much. Thank you for continuing to connect us with this very special ministry. ❤ I am with you about working through people pleasing and just doing what I can for the holidays. Soooo many of us seem to be in the same type of season with processing grief and trials, simplifying traditions, and reducing expectations and activities.

My brother worked for a bundt cake bakery, I believe it was Nothing Bundt Cake. He took me in the back one time, and they had pallets of boxed cake mix, and I believe they also used pudding. People often assume they are making them from scratch. So Dawn's recipes are truly a better copycat. Bakers often say it's hard to make a from scratch cake taste as good as boxed cake mix.

Another place that is good to donate clothing to is your local nursing homes. There are many residents who literally have nothing in the way of clothing. I'm talking even the basics! When my husband was living there, he had a new roommate come in late 60's early 70's maybe. He came from a hospital. All He had was the hospital gown he was wearing! A couple women came in a few days later and was having him sign papers so that they could take some of his allotted monthly personal money so that they could go buy him some basic clothes. At the time that amount was $60 a month. So u know how much he got.

Honest moment here, I've been so aggravated with my house these last 3 or 4 months. I've been decluttering for 2 years (or more) and have been feeling very frustrated at the, seemingly, lack of progress. Y'ALL!!!! We cleaned and put our house ALL the way back together from Christmas choas in LESS than 2 hours this morning!! Mopped and everything, (I rarely mop) it was amazing. Thank you Dawn for the constant encouragement. It really is happening ❤️

Yes. Been decluttering for years too and do 5 min pick ups and aim to leave every room better than when I entered it and still the house isn’t tidy but I know it’s getting better and easier to clean. It’s all about the mindset shift! Congrats on getting it together and doing the mopping. I bought a new easy to use, simple mop a few months ago, it’s a game changer! It made me realise that my main enemy was a mop where the sponge was always falling off.
