Looking good amigo! Home labbing is a life long journey. I wish I could have documented my first home network back in 2002. You will look back at all these nerd memories fondly one day! Lab on!

Nice! I just set up my small Network rack in my basement. I've gone from Apple AirPort Extreme to Eero to Ubiquity Unifi. Each ecosystem had it's own plusses and minuses and were perfect for the time I used them. I can hardly wait to see what the future holds.

Sir, excellent video. Thank you for your content. Over the last couple of years I have had to update components of my 14 U rack at home. You have reminded me that there are a couple of things I want to upgrade currently. I run Unifi for my home wireless, but have yet to make the leap over to the switches or routers. pFSense is what I am currently using for my routing/firewall needs. I run Synology for my NAS and my NVR camera recording (since 2014). Since you mentioned home assistant, I'm going to do more research on that since that is something I've been curious about for a minute. Big ups from DFW, Texas.

Great vid! Some tips if i may: 1. When mounting equipment using those plastic cabinet screws (have them aswell, cant recall the name) , support the device from the bottom, allowing you to tighten the screws to the max , by hand. .

Nice Job. I'll join the others that mentioned that there is advantage to putting the patch panels above and below the switch. I did notice that your equipment doesn't actually have a 10gb upgrade path. The SFP+ ports on the UDM Pro are only useful for an uplink and downlink and that switch only has 1gb/s SPF ports. I think you would probably find that if you wanted to upgrade a few devices to the higher speed you likely will be purchasing Unifi's aggregation switch to get there in the ecosystem without it costing an arm and a leg. Although if you only needed to connect a Synology NAS high speed to a single computer there is the option of using a crossover cable and directly attaching a PC directly to the high speed port while connecting the other NIC to the network which would allow the high speed connection on that one device without any switch purchase at all.

I definitely agree that rack studs are awesome. I only use them for switches and lighter devices. For heavy devices or devices that I don't plan to replace, like shelves, UPS, PDU, or drawers, I still use cage nuts. I don't trust rackstuds holding those heavy devices in place

@@teckinmylifebyeuanhenry1353 I am so new and green. I will keep watching this video to learn and do my best to duplicate...so clean. I was wondering what I do with all the cables coming from the house in the closet to cleanly plug them in the Unifi switch. So I need to get a patch panel and the couplers you posted to connect all the Cat6 into in the back of the panel...correct. NowI have an Unifi USG gateway. Unless I missed it, where do I get the shelf to mount in the rack so I can sat my USG on that shelf in the rack?
@zadekeys2194
@zadekeys2194 Жыл бұрын
2. Install patch panels between switches. You couldve has u1 empty, as it could use u2 as a shelf, or be moved up, giving you 1 free 1 i guess.

Nice DIY setup. Looks Great. I noticed on the topology a Ring doorbell. I would get the G4 Doorbell if I were you. If you're running Protect and have a AP already then it's worth it in my opinion.

Trust me I constipated it for a while, the main reason I decided against it was the terrible audio, both versions have lousy audio. I'm hoping the update the original G4 Doorbell and address the poor speaker proformance

Nice job with the video and rack. I totally agree on the Rackstuds, they are so much easier to work with than rack nuts and screws. I'm guessing you're connecting your editing computer with a 10 gig connection?

Nice setup. However, the top patch panel should have been placed at the bottom to keep the space in front of the disk tray free. There is now also no way retracting the udm pro without disconnecting all patches...

Make sure you run all Sonos speakers wireless as otherwise it will create a loop in the network. I thank UniFi support for helping me figure that one out. Now you need the 4 bay UNVR. I run 13 cameras about half 2k and 4K. I really like my UniFi home network.
