Kinda understand your perspective relating to shorter cables however Ubiquiti made the decision to go long to mitigate any complaints that the cable was too short. You win some you lose more hence the longer cable not to mention cost factor for each camera to have another cable.

I completely understand why they supply item with the long cable and I agree with you. I maintain selling a shorter cable online would be a helpful alternative.

@@teckinmylifebyeuanhenry1353 one thing UI can do is sell different lengths to accommodate different requirements. Monoprice makes a variety of length cables that fit perfect for rack setups and they have a variety of colors !

Hey Euan, really appreciate your Unifi videos as I look to spec out my own home network. I can't remember if you covered in the video if it's possible to set detection zones for the motion detection? e.g. I wouldn't want it to detect cars on the main road, but do in the drive etc, is that possible to do?

The setting you are looking for can be found if you go to Devices/select the camera you want to set up the Detection Zone/ Select Recording Mode/ scroll all the way down to the bottom you will see Detection and Privacy Zones

@@lancefrombk4594 it's very bright but I get no glair, once I had the right Light angel down too much and it end up in the camera frame a little bit but that was an easy fix. The ligh triggered my motion, the color brightness, montio sensitivity, can all be customized by the Wasserstein app. Good luck.

What happens to the footage if your house gets broken into or there's a fire?

I performed a factory reset on my UDM-SE console. In doing so, I lost connection to my Protect cameras. The cameras are alerting "Managed by another console'. When I select Adopt, it prompts for a 'recovery code.' I was unaware that a randomized code/password was set during the previous installation of Protect. Backups before the console was factory reset are available. Do the console backups contain configuration files for Protect? The worst-case scenario is I'm forced to grab a ladder and perform a hard reset on each camera, but I'm hoping for a workaround. Anybody with similar experience --??

I found this video looking at the G4 Instant to see if it can be setup without using the Protect App on mobile. Looking at your video it appears that you did everything via the web browser on your computer. I take it you have Unifi AP's in your home that are the Wifi 6 models and it allowed them to be auto-adopted to the network so that you could adopt them to the Protect console. Am I correct? I purchased a G3 Instant about 18 months ago and could not adopt it into my network without using the Protect Mobile app on my phone which did not work because my Protect Console is not connected to the Web Console. Things may have changed since then but it did not make a good experience for me, so I am hesitant to try the G4 Instant only to discover it does the same thing still. Thanks in advance !!

So not shown in the video, one of the Instant G3 or G4 (I don't remember which one) wasn't adopting initially, I reset it by using a paper clip to press the reset button then it worked just fine. I also used the desktop web interface and the mobile app without any problems except for the issues I mentioned.

@@teckinmylifebyeuanhenry1353 did you have to use the mobile app ? When I tried to adopt the G3 Instant over a year ago I had to use the mobile app to adopt it. My protect was not connected to the UI cloud and the mobile app could not connect to protect via local network. I was hoping they fixed the whole process since then. And it sounds like it has been improved. Thank you for your feedback.

@@teckinmylifebyeuanhenry1353 hello again. I received my G4 Instant today and when I powered it on it never showed up for me to add it to the network. My experience is different than yours. Would you happen to recall the steps that you did? I placed it near my U6 IW as well as my U6 Enterprise and neither of them detected it for me to set the wifi password for it to join the network. Do I need to use the mobile app for that function or can it all be done within Protect via the web browser on the local console?

With 4 out of 5 camera all I did was plug it in to power it on, I used the web app for the most part. Within seconds of powering on it showed up in my list of unifi devices. Are you using a UDM Pro, UDM SE or Dream Router
