I watch that Toyota mechanic too on youtube. Just yesterday he was talking about the discontinued Avalon and what a really great car it was in the Hybrid. I found a 2021 locally with only 26K on it used. Arriving at the car lot, when the salesman went to demo the car, the battery was dead. Of course the salesman said, "oh that's okay we can jump it". A pilot friend of mine always says,, "don't start out with a known problem". So much for considering a used $37,000.00 Avalon. I was out of there. :)

Rick Murray, your videos plus Car Care Nut convinced me that a Corolla with the 2.0 liter engine is a solid purchase. Mine is also an LE and it will arrive in March. I will also do 5,000 mile intervals for oil changes. Im retiring a 2004 Accord with 215,000 miles. I expect this Corolla to out due it if properly maintained. The safety features are night and day compared to my current vehicle. I agree about absorbing bumps and pot holes. It was the chief reason I didnt select the Mazda3 with its 18 inch wheels and low profile tires.

Hey. The AC is suppoed to come on the automatic mode in the winter to and you don't need to turn it off, it will never blow cold air on a winter day. If the Temperature outside is below freezing it will automatically disengage the AC system even if the light is on and if it is above freezing it runs the AC in order to dry the air before it goes into the heater core, thus minimizing the chance of fogged up windows on the inside.

Two things i noticed that i might as well answer because i had experience with one, and asked the same question about the other. 1. The electronic parking break is typically loud. My mom has an audi q7, and when the parking break engages, its quite jarring if you have the windows open. 2. The auto climate control does always turn the AC on. What this does is it makes it so the car can use it if necessary to maintain the desired temperature, but it does NOT mean it is always in use. I also had to get this question answered by the dealer because i did not like the idea of the AC always being on. Very nice video! Helps a ton as I’m considering getting one. Thank you!

A Nissan "Kicks" first recommended transmission flush is 60,000 miles then every 30,000 miles thereafter. Surprise, Surprise, Surprise. The 60,000 service is after the warranty period and on your dime. Changed it at 30,000 and noticed the transmission had a little more grip with firmer engagement. Granted there is no comparison between the two companies and cars, but still a CVT is a weak point. Thank you for your story. Great little car.

Here I've been seeing between 50-70mpg in 'city' driving, though it does get as low as 45mpg and as high as 90mpg for very short trips depending on the battery state of charge when starting out. The max mpg the computer will report is 99.9, and this happens when I just back the car out of the garage and then shut it down (to clean out the garage). where the engine never even starts at all. OTOH, the real time mpg screen active during driving has been hovering around 45-50mpg most of the time. Go figure.

Rick I am using your videos as a guide until mine comes in Next month. Two things 1) Car Care Nut recommended undercoating the wheel well due to exposed steel. Ive never undercoated a car before. Was wondering what you plan to do 2)Can the Wireless Car Play work via USB cable if you choose to use the cable? Perhaps that will solve the issue of random disconnects that some have mentioned? Car Care Nut believes the issue will be resolved via software updates.

Thanks! I’ve never undercoated a car either, but I’ve been thinking about it since I heard him say that. I’ll have to think about it further and call some places. This winter hasn’t been bad for us and our Corolla is always garaged at home,so there probably isn’t a rush. Re the CarPlay, yes it works with a wire. Keep in mind it’s USB-C now only. So you will need the appropriate lighting to USB-C cable - for IPhone. Ours hasn’t disconnected too much. And we have two phone programmed into it. My bigger beef is that it doesn’t turn the music volume down when you get a message or you press for Siri.

I agree with the transmission sentiment, my wife's Rav4 has the 8 speed and it gets great mpg for an suv and decent acceleration, also same noisy engine and parking brake. I feel like the Prius or Hybrid is a trade off, you will pay more initially and on insurance but get better MPG. With the Corolla you get a softer blow on the purchase price, less mpg, but cheaper to insure and maintain.

The automatic climate control on Toyotas do that. The AC turns on even in the middle of the winter with heat on. The reason is to remove humidity out of the cabin in the winter too. I also watch the Carcarenut and agree with him that Corolla's are too expensive relative to the Camry and other mid size sedans. Personally, I'd rather have a used Camry ---maybe a couple years old with low mileage than a brand new Corolla for about the same price because you get a bit more horsepower, less noisy, and better over all car.
