If anyone here is wondering about how to keep them warmer during the winter seasons or just in your home that you keep cooler, you can insulate the top vent of your enclosure (NOT ALL OF IT PLZ) with some foil, or place a heating pad on the rear wall of the outside of the enclosure (i use exoterra enclosures with the rockwall backing, pad on lowest heat setting, helps keep all the heat from passing into the enclosure while maintaining heat inside). Monitor your temps as closely as possible if anything worries you.

I'm planning on getting a crested gecko in a few months, but I'll have to work through my bug phobia a bit :/ a friend that owns reptiles said I could just feed worms sometimes- and otherwise use the food mix that includes bugs and the one that doesn't 50/50
@tmreptile8 ай бұрын
I personally use the Pangea brands of food. Very simple to make. You just mix water with the powder until you get a ketchup consistency and you’re good. And then I offer bugs weekly as well. As far as the phobia of bugs, try to think of it this way. The crickets or roaches you’ll be feeding your gecko won’t hurt you. They don’t even think like that. They realistically won’t even bite. I’ve never ever had an issue. Using rubber tipped tongs would also be a good idea and then you don’t have to touch them or anything else. Hope that helps a little!
@randomperson19348 ай бұрын
@@tmreptile thank you! I've heard lots of good things about pangea- but because of the whole drama between them and repashy I cant find it at any local stores.. but since people seem to say their geckos like it better I'm thinking I'll order pangea from online :)

What are some ways to control the temperature when you live in a house with one AC unit? If it’s too hot in my room, what can I do? And if it’s too cold, what are some ways to alter the temperature without adjusting the AC?
@tmreptile Жыл бұрын
My best advice is to move rooms or levels in your house if it’s too hot. Chances are there’s a room somewhere that will be in their range. If it’s too cold I’ve heard of people using a small heat mat that’s plugged into a thermostat. They set it up so part of the tank gets a little warmer (it’s in their range). I usually advise against using heat but if you can guarantee it won’t get above their range you should be okay.
@tmreptile Жыл бұрын
The heat mat they stick on one of the walls of the enclosure, sorry if that wasn’t clear
@jasmingarcia152 Жыл бұрын
@@tmreptile Okay, that’s good to know because my mom keeps the AC at 80 or 78 the least when it’s hot, which it’s been hot here in California. I’m just worried about the winter time because we turn up the heat.
@tmreptile Жыл бұрын
@@jasmingarcia152 yeah 80 is definitely on the higher end. If you could find a room that’s 76-77 that would definitely be better. If not, you just want to make sure you don’t let it get any higher
@yzwp7 ай бұрын
I know i’m a bit off from when you first commented, but what i did when i lived in a single story hvac house was close or partially close the vent for the room they stay in during the day, and reopen it before i’d go to bed to let the room cool a bit, as well as having thermometers inside and outside the enclosure.
@16gaby20 Жыл бұрын
Question. I have a Orange Dalmatian and it loves turning pale. It worries me. My house is never cold. It's always 70sh and I feed it, I have a water cap. I take it out for it to explore. I can figure what's wrong. Thank you in advance.
@tmreptile Жыл бұрын
It kind of sounds like you're explaining what flaring is. Flaring up is where your gecko shows all of its colors and they look very colorful. Flaring down is where they kind of look bland and don't have a bunch of colors showing. When they shed they get really pale and hazy looking as well! Try looking up some photos of flaring vs non flaring crested geckos and hopefully that'll help!

I just recently got a crested and I have him in a 12x12x18 pvc enclosure. I am using reptisoil and spring tails and I lightly misted it a day and a half ago and my hygrometer is still measuring 74 in the tank. So it hasn’t dropped humidity and I’m not sure what direction to go from here. The temps in the enclosure are pretty stable 70-73 with a thermostat
@HelloSkitty9 ай бұрын
I also put him in the basement and possibly with that plus the pvc enclosure it’s not ventilated well?
@tmreptile9 ай бұрын
It kinda sounds like you need more ventilation in the tank or to spray a little less. It’s hard for me to say if you are heavy or light misting because to me you might be heavily misting but you would consider it light. Idk if that makes sense. You’ll just have to adjust how you spray to figure it out! Making sure the soil doesn’t get soaked is also important. So make sure you’re only spraying the wall(s) or plants is important too. They don’t need wet substrate. Just to be able to lick the water drops off the walls or plants

One question no one is answering in the crested gecko videos around KZbin. It is getting really warm in my appartment during the day. @tmreptile11 ай бұрын
There’s a lot of factors that go into play. It’s normal for it to spike when you spray. And then it slowly goes down throughout the day. If it’s not going down throughout the day then I would say you’re either spraying too much and/or your substrate is holding too much of that water in. What substrate are you using?
