It’s the perfect bike for me, it’s ridiculously easy to ride, so agile and comfortable, the engine is powerful yet delivery is never scary, it inspires great confidence

Nice review Mark , I bought one just the same when it first came out did 15 , 000 miles in the first year, road holding on twisty bends was awesome, one of the best bikes I’ve ever owned , so much fun , if and when I have another one I’d stick to the 800 cc model too it was so good , I changed the suspension on mine it really wasn’t so good and made a larger front mudguard to keep the muck off the engine , just remembered I still have the original exhaust system in my garage all boxed up , free to a good home ,

Watercooling just add weight and complexity Ducati air cooled engines have massive fins and very large sumps they do not overheat even in 40c in Italy. Desmodronic valves hardly ever need adjusting, don't believe what you hear until you own one.

Nice review and nice bike, thanks Mark. I think it's worth mentioning that this engine has belt driven desmo valves (albeit just 2 per cylinder) and they are quite high maintenance when compared to other similar bikes, furthermore, in hotter climates, the lack of liquid cooling means that they sometimes struggle because of the lack of thermal control.

I test rode Icon and Monster back to back. Was always planning to get the monster based on all the reviews and it was great, but picked this instead, it’s compact and tiny, and go anywhere. Traded in 690 duke and this is better everywhere except seat comfort which is good for about 2 hrs. Handling is excellent.

superb bike, glad you've managed to have a ride on it, Mark, really appreciate your relaxed reviews. Hopefully you're also gonna ride the bigger scrambler and the Monster, or even the bigger crazier Dukes. you, my friend, are probably not in a busy area.. otherwise your reviews should have more bikes and fans :).

Thanks Mark, I'm glad you showed this bike. I'm getting more drawn to the scrambler style and this seems a stonking bike. I love the looks and the options of coloured plastics is great. I really want to try the Triumph 400 first and then this one to see whether the extra capacity is worth paying more for. The low seat is a very nice touch as these bikes are often too high for comfort for street riding. As usual your chatty and informative style gives all that's wanted in a review, although I'd have liked a bit of gentle "off roading" for this one to make it the perfect test. :>)

I used to be super gung ho about the Scrambler as a second bike until the con rod bearings on my Multi turned into confetti at 29k. That was a $9k repair. Also the shock isn't serviceable and there are patches of weird wear on the forks above the seals that caused the seals to leak until the fork was rebuilt 3 times. The wear is still there, just not causing a problem as far as I know right now. I can't give Ducati any more of my money. If I had bought a Ninja 1000 instead it would just be settling in instead of starting to fall apart. I'd suggest an SV650 over this bike.

The throttle respone an important point as the old classic I had was dynamite off road as the throttle was like a off/on switch, coupled with the low gearing it made your ride interesting off road. Would have being interesting to know how much difference the road mode made to the throttle response & rideability off road. How legible is the screen for the gear indicator-fuel gauge-clock & ambient temp for older pair of eyes?

I wanted a Ducati Scrambler when they first came out. It was going to be my bike to ride around Thailand on. But I've never heard of any owner who hasn't had electrical problems. Regarding this model, the TFT doesn't suit the bike. It needs an offset round dial. I don't like the X on the headlight. It's too expensive. Expensive servicing costs, although my mechanic in Chiang Rai races Ducatis and services his race bikes himself. His charge works out at 2.30 GBP an hour, so servicing costs would be irrelevant here. I suppose I'd still like one, especially in yellow. 1990 [Nick J]

I cant imagine driving one in UK here in Thailand we drive these at 150 - 220 kmh, The fun only begins when you break the UK speed limit. You use too low revs for this bike it requires 4/5000 - 10,000 rpm. You shouldn't be even near 5th or 6th gear below 100 mph on a ducati desmo driven engine
