An immense world is still on my library hold list! A raunchy poetry collection. Nice! I love how broadly you read ❤

An Immense World is just so much fun to read! I hope you like it whenever you get to it. And yeah, I used to read pretty exclusively SFF and romance, but I found myself getting bored when I stuck to just the same genres - now that I mix things up, it keeps me constantly interested.

Hi Shannon! I'm excited about a lot of the books that made it onto your list of favourite reads of 2023. Solito, Shubeik Lubeik, the series of Nghi Vo, and the novels of María José Ferrada have already been added to my tbr, after hearing about them on your channel. I didn't manage to read them this year, but I hope to get to them in 2024. Happy new reading year! 😊

So glad to hear they're on your TBR!😊 I hope you get the chance to pick some of them up this year. If you do, let me know what you think of them! And happy new reading year to you too!

Wow. There are so many books on this video that I've read and enjoyed (maybe from your recommendations) and some more added to my TBR list. Thank you.

So glad that you've enjoyed a bunch of these too! 😊 It's always so nice to know other people have had a good time with books that I loved too. And if you end up reading any of the others, definitely let me know what you end up thinking of them!

We have a little resurrection in common on our favourite reads list! I also read king of the dragonflies last year and really thought it was fantastic. I need to read more kacen callender books ^.^ The year I read it messy roots was the best graphic novel I'd read :) I really want to read highly suspicious and unfairly cute, as well as her good side which is waiting for me on my shelf! Oh yes, M is for monster is such a gem

I really enjoyed Hurricane Child by Kacen Callender, so I'd recommend that one! Both Messy Roots and M is for Monster were such good graphic works - I'm always impressed by how many great graphic memoirs & novels there are. I hope you get to the YA romances as well as Diary of a Void and Drinking from Graveyard Wells! I think there's a good chance you'll like all of them.

You did an amazing job conveying so quickly what was great about each of these! An unsurprising spoiler that Yong is going to be on mine as well 😆 I think he's been the most widespread I've seen all over the favorites lists. The couple others I have read I heartily agree with your love for them. No big surprise, almost all the rest here I have in mind to get to already from you, so many books too little time. I love to see the UKL prize books hit so well!

Thanks!! It is so hard to get through 30+ books in any sort of reasonable time period - and it still ended up being such a long video! Yong is fantastic - he deserves to be on all the favorites lists. I'm so glad you made that video earlier this year about the UKL prize! Such fantastic works on there.

Loved how you categorised your favorite books and it was clear that you enjoyed reading all of them 😎 Thanks a lot for many great recommendarions 🤗

It's fun to see what categories emerge each year from the books I loved the most. If you end up picking any of them up, I hope you enjoy them!

I love how you talk about your best books of the year!

I hope you get the chance to pick up M is for Monster! It's such a great graphic novel, so I'm not surprised it's on lots of people's lists.

Ah this was posted while I was on vacation and I almost missed it! I also loved An Immense World (still need to read I Contain Multitudes) and the audiobook was so good! I also really loved Shubeik Lubeik and I’m glad to see it on your list. I pretty much want to read all the memoirs and translated works you listed as well as Drinking from Graveyard Wells and Arboreality. I read 2 out of 3 of your cozy reads and didn’t like either of them too much so looks like we have different cozy tastes haha but otherwise we overlap a lot! Great video :)
@ThatsSoPoe7 ай бұрын
I Contain Multitudes is also great, but I didn't like the audio narration as much as when Yong did it himself for An Immense World. Shubeik Lubeik is truly amazing, so I hope lots of other people give it a try. And if you read any of the other books here, let me know what you think of them! Cozy reads are definitely all about vibes, so I can see that not working the same for everyone. Neat that we had so much overlap otherwise, though!

@@ThatsSoPoe oh that's good to know about I Contain Multitudes; thanks for the heads up. And of course, will do :)

I am interested in Arboreality. I had gotten it out from the library earlier this year and then never picked it up. I need to check it out again.

I thought it was so good! I hope you get the chance to read it.

I need to get to Ed Yong, I have An Immense World on my library hold list but still got a couple of months wait Mammoths at the gates and Arboreality are definitely going on my list to read
@ThatsSoPoe8 ай бұрын
An Immense World had a huge wait list at my library too, but was definitely worth it! I hope you enjoy it once you get your hands on it. And for Mammoths at the Gates, I recommend starting with the first book in the series, The Empress of Salt and Fortune. It's more of a companion series, so it should be fine to start with Mammoths at the Gates, but the whole series is great and you'll get extra context.
