I think I'm safe to say Dan 2023 was a total B@$t🤬Rd of a year !!especially when no hay was made here. Are we going to see if the 178 can pull the Dowdeswell plough video? Should be interesting video. 🙂👍

Someone who I know runs a chicken farm. He has black night shade around his silos. He thinks it comes in the feed and probably the soya. Glyphosate won't touch it.

Sorry about the beet. Weird how the feeding didn't turn into increased production. I'm sure you'll mix it up next year to tackle the probem.

Good video again Dan 👍 did your nutritionist manage to throw any light on why cow yield dropped 🤔 theres always turnips to try fed them to dairy cattle back in the day 👍

Our 22 crop of beet were a disaster 😢 This year's are totally different 😅 I think good hygiene is really important for beet and you have to be totally on it with the agronomy, we even tested for ph ,p+k ect with a soil analysis which showed up shortages of p+k . But you can't grow it without rain and so if you grow again you may have to drill earlier 🙄

I would seriously thinnk about growing some mazie for 2024 . Season.

Interesting to hear your comments, surely someone somewhere must be able to explain why the fodder beet has not increased the milk yield as in previous years ? Presume that will be a scientist & cost mega bucks ?

I think it would have been easier on you if it had completely failed at the beginning!😩. That must be 3yrs (i think) that haven’t done great. Be interesting to see what you replace it with next year though

Maybe you should get your fodder beet tested in a similar way to the silage to see why it hasn’t performed as it should have with the cows this year?

Great video Dan - an interesting review of your fodder beat harvest

Good interesting video Dan we grow a small acreage of beet to feed to our finishing cattle but it has got very expensive to grow with the price of spray especially so maybe not bother this year 🤔
@julianhawker76728 ай бұрын
Interesting ( and not good👎 ) that beet has not delivered to milk output, never heard of this before. Have you had the beet tested to try and see whats going on? I wonder if sugar is very low and starch is high?
@claesmansson90708 ай бұрын
Certainly not the case here for sugarbeets, beets are freezing and because of all the rain they must stay where they are, factory closing down, cause the beets are not expected to be worth processing anymore, so big losses for some DK beet farmers.

We lost some to frost in 2022.

Noticed you said you were gonna feed the fodder beet to the beef cows, did you see an increase in body weight in the dairy cows? Just asking out of curiosity, if it is an imposition of any sort feel free not to answer.

No, i don't think they were eating it long enough to see a difference.
