I end up on another screen with “Restore from Time Machine/ Reinstall macOS/ Safari/ Disk Utility after first seeing the “MacintoshHD and Options” screen when trying. It shows I am connected to the Internet. Could you please help? Thank you. LaterEdit: I found it. I used “resetpassword” and pressed Enter in the Utility Menu on the top left hand side, then selected Terminal.

It's because you have FileVault on. It adds extra security by decrypting the boot drive only when an authenticated user logs in or you enter the recovery key. I'm sorry bud but you can't recover your data even if you remove the drive from the macbook. A repair shop won't help because they need the recovery key to unlock the drive. Do you remember what you set the recovery key to? Did you write it down somewhere? I assume you didn't because you're asking for help. RIP macbook 🫡 My advice for a future macbook, either write down the recovery key, disable FileVault, or don't enable it in the first place. Windows has a similar feature called BitLocker, but it gets unlocked on boot.
