That is a fair review. I have had mine (same power train and trim) for about two weeks now. It is very nice, but not so nice that it was worth a 16 month wait. If I was doing it again, I would have gone for the regular hybrid. Another thing worth mentioning is that the PHEV has a smaller gas tank than the HEV, so highway range is considerably less than what the HEV will give you. On long-haul highway trips, that means more frequent fuel stops, and slightly worse fuel economy due to the extra battery weight. But around town, it is a different story; it is very economical there. People need to consider their needs and their patience before choosing this power train.

Hi Ed, thanks for the video. I agree with your likes & dislikes. A clean microfiber cloth is great for keeping the piano black surfaces nice & shiny. One thing I would add to the "dislikes" is that the rear turn signal lights are way too low. That could be dangerous 😮 Have a great week 🇨🇦
@edsgarage001 Жыл бұрын
It's hard to find any dislikes in this vehicle. However having followed several of these Tucsons, and purposely paying attention to how easy it was to see the turn signals, I need to disagree with that. They are low, however unless you're less than 2 m behind the vehicle, you can see them just fine.

I sold my 2022 Tesla model Y and bought the 2022 Tucson gas car. I am really happy with the Tucson. I do plan on buying the new 2024 Tucson Hybrid or PHEV. All my round trips 99% of the time is under 20 miles. I will probably never have to buy gas for the PHEV. I'm personally done with buying gas, I hope I never have to buy gas again.

I went with the Santa fe for some of the reasons you mentioned, no piano black, has hood struts and plenty of buttons, I disliked the touch buttons also... So far no regrets, great vehicle and I feel that the roof opens more on the Santa fe due to being bigger than the Tucson but not 100% sure. Thanks, Great video!

Have a 2024 limited PHEV. Agree with the review. Range is proving to be ok. We home charge at .12 per kWh. There are several free level 2 chargers in the neighborhood so we drive the car as an ev mostly and show 140 miles of gas left after driving 400 miles. The owners manual is difficult to use. The key words I use are not in the manual. Likewise the icons on the screen do not match the way I think. Everything one needs is there, finding it is the issue. Screen loads fast! The heater is tied to the engine. So in cooler weather the engine always runs on start up so the car is not an ev in the winter. There is no help in the manual on driving the car most efficiently! Utube has provided some help and my friend with a Santa Fe hybrid has helped. We use the smart setting, feather the brakes lightly to maximumly recharge during stops, or down shift while slowing using the paddle shifters. Driving in sport mode recharges the battery, so using sport mode until you can get to a charge unit allows for ev only driving. We regurlarly get over 40 miles on a charge using these tips. My concern is economy so we are pleased. VEry pleased with quietness and in sport mode, the car reacts quickly and has very nice pickup on ramps to our interstates.

Thanks for the comment! - Try the digital manual for quicker access to info. For example, if you're on the radio screen, tap the menu icon at the top (three horizontal lines) then scroll up, tap "user manual" and it'll give you a QR Code... Scan the code and it'll take you to the section of the manual that talks about the radio. That option is in all the different apps on the infotainment system. Hope that helps!

I have exactly the same model. I like the mileage I got - 3.1 l/100 km. I didn't like waiting 17 months to get it, and I especially don't like having it break down after 96 days and then sitting at the dealership for 115 days and counting while waiting for a part to come from S. Korea.

How about the power tailgate using the button on the remote? I have seen that for the 2022 Hybrid, one would have to press the tailgate button on the remote all the way until it closes completely. If you leave the button halfway through, the tailgate stops halfway through. Have they fixed this in 2023 hybrid to close completely by just a single click of the button on the remote?
@edsgarage001 Жыл бұрын
Interesting.... I wasn't aware this was a thing tbh. I generally just hit the button on the tailgate to close it. I'll have to try it tomorrow.

Great review, thanks! I got my Tucson PHEV 2 weeks ago...and found that I cannot charge it with the Level 1 charger that came with it nor does my I6 L1 charger work either. Both L1 chargers are not "recognized" by the SUV or are not making good connection. BUT the funny thing is the SUV will charge using my house L2 charger...so my question is have you encounter this problem...or is there a solution?

Hmm that's annoying. I can't say I've seen that specifically on the Tucson. I'd just contact your local service department, have them diagnose it.

Our level 1 cable works fine. We moved the amps to 12. We did not need to do anything else. Still takes about 11 hrs for a full charge. Your level 2 should charge in 2-3 hours so you are good. Take your cable to the garage and see if it works on another PHEV. The cable is suspect!

Hi Ed, in my opinion no heat pump would be a dislike for me. Your opinion on the smaller battery in the Tucson seems weak to me since the more kms you get on EV only is less gas used. Also not everybody can charge at work so more range is a plus for me.
@edsgarage0019 ай бұрын
Ok, but you're just one individual. If you're carrying around the extra weight of a battery that you don't use, then that's kind of a waste of money and efficiency. The majority of drivers live within 25 km of their work (at least in Canada). Future phevs with lighter battery tech will have more EV range. For now, this base the most sense in order for cost efficiency.

When driving fast you're only getting 200 miles range on that tiny tank...makes this a terrible long distance touring car
@edsgarage0013 ай бұрын
Nooooo.... Average highway mileage is 35mpg. It has an 11 gallon tank. That's 385 miles, plus the 33 miles of EV range. I'm sorry, but no matter how fast you drive, it's not going to be only 200 miles... Unless you're going up hill the entire way, in the snow, pulling a trailer

Can’t drive in electric only without having the engine turn on, like you can with Rav4. Main reason I don’t want to buy this.
@edsgarage0018 ай бұрын
Actually you can. Assuming it's not freezing cold out and you don't floor it everywhere, then in EV mode the engine will not come on. Keep in mind the RAV4 battery is way bigger and the price is also way higher. But the Tucson is the nicer ride with its features, material quality and comfort. Considering the differences, I'd choose the Tucson over the Rav 4 despite the engine coming on for a minute rarely when it's cold out. Besides, it's not really a bad idea for an engine to run every now and then.
@naronaroyan3238 ай бұрын
@@edsgarage001 Well, if I want to drive in EV then it should be in EV rather then turn into hybrid mode just because I go above some MPH or because I accelerate a bit too fast. Which means I can drive close range without ever having to fill up and have extended range with gasoline.
@edsgarage0018 ай бұрын
I've had customers with these go for over a year before filling up. You can go about 115kph max before the engine starts up. And the amount of gas you use otherwise will be such a tiny amount, it's not even worth mentioning. If you wanna spend thousands more on a Rav 4, that's your prerogative of course.
@naronaroyan3238 ай бұрын
@@edsgarage001 I believe the engine turns on when you go over 50-60mph; so not sure where you got the 115kph from. And when you speed up it also starts up. So if I have to go to a store near by it is going to start up…
@edsgarage0018 ай бұрын
I got it from the fact that I've personally tested it. It's actually even higher. I was able to go 120kph (75mph) without the engine turning on. It does NOT turn on just from accelerating normally. It's only if you floor it. See the 26 minute mark of the following video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHfJdJmjgLp2esUfeature=shared

The Piano Black parts are actually not that bad. After one year of use I have wiped them about 5x with a piece of cloth and it is just fine. And I am not the cleanest person in the world. Not a single scratch either. The screen gets the same treatment, maybe once a month. Just a piece of cloth for cleaning glasses, that is all. I agree on the sun roof opening, never understood why it doesn’t open a bit further. And, in Europe at least, there is the lane keeping assist that has to get switched off with every ride. And adaptive CC cannot be switched to normal CC. Furthermore, it is one great car. The best I ever had, by far!
