Lots of gas-station memorabilia, but where is the show, how long does it run, is it always in Des Moines, who sponsors it, who gets to exhibit, how to enter, how is the money distributed?
@gaspumprob8 ай бұрын
It is always in Des Moines in Aug. This year a second new show will held in bettendorf, Iowa the same week promoted by Rob Wolfe American Pickers. Look up Bettendorf America for details. I think it will top this event .

what started out as kind of fun junkyard finds has turned into mostly too expensive hobby. even just oil can collecting out of whack. you also have to be careful on things reported to be original--often repros. I certainly get the interest--a fun time of life & memories for most of us.
@gaspumprob Жыл бұрын
Yes I agree. I started collecting gas and oil in the early nineties and everything was way more reasonable. I could buy a nice original 1940s gas pump for $150.00 or a 1950s original pump for $50.00 on about any given weekend out hunting farms etc. Everything is way out of wack now.

U Being from California, Iowa must have been a culture shock for u. Slower pace and friendly people. I have spent a lot of time in both, I am never going back to calif ( I grew up there), yet I can't wait for my next visit to Iowa and Nebraska

I have spent most of my life in California. The weather , mountains, and ocean are beautiful . Other than that it overcrowded, and poorly run. Yes the people in the Midwest are very friendly. It’s not a shock because I have traveled back to the Midwest for many years to attend this show and to go out finding antiques and roadside treasures along the way . Thank you for watching my video and for leaving a comment. Rob

Hot dang !! Just 55 seconds in and there's a big Massey Harris sign !! Then 2:04 and the John Deere sign. I've never seen so many signs in one place in my life !! Another super cool Massey Harris at 19:08. That's a new one on me...never seen one like that before. Hey Rob, at 31:04 I have that exact DeLaval sign...so does my brother. And you snuck in the Ferguson System sign right there at the tail end. I'm sure I missed some, but I couldn't read them all and I was wearing out the pause button !! Looks like you're going home with a few goodies too. Another one outta the park my friend. Awesome video buddy.

Hello Wendell, I was thinking you might like the tractor signs!!! That is cool that you and your brother have the cream separator sign. I really enjoyed your Cream separator video!! I learned a lot!
@tractorman4461 Жыл бұрын
@@gaspumprob I know I had to have missed one, but dang if that wasn't the biggest number of signs in one place I've ever seen !! I didn't even realize it was that big of a thing. And I DID see two of my old Coke sign snow discs we rubbed all the color off of over the years as a kid !! I kinda regret that now. LOL

I enjoyed this video very much. I went to a car show this morning at the Daytona Beach, Florida, flea market. After I looked at the cars, I went inside the flea market and paid $12 for nice reproduction of the Super Chevrolet Service sign that is on the bottom right in the thumbnail and @0:11. One oil can that I saw in the video that I might have been interested in was the Marvel Mystery Oil can. It only comes in plastic bottles now. I have been adding 4 ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil to the gas every time I fill up for the past seven years.
@gaspumprob Жыл бұрын
I am glad you enjoyed the video tour. The reproduction sign will decorate nicely at a fraction of the price of an original. Enjoy

I like the Skelly sign. I was amazed at the price at $3,000 plus per sign for a couple of them. I didn't know I will had that many planes that flew into its territory 😞😳🤣🤣🤣🤣🚁. Well seriously the Moines is a pretty good-sized city especially for its surroundings.
@gaspumprob Жыл бұрын
Hello my friend, The International airport is right across the street. I had a friend years ago fly in buy signs and pay me well to haul them home!!! He paid my fuel bill. The prices you see are over inflated. Not many deals. The couple that set up next to me were very fair and responsible. I bought three signs from them. Everything else was crazy and I refuse to overpay. I am interested in the Skelly sign you mentioned. I found one yesterday that was cut up and now a barn hanger!!! It’s unfortunate one section missing. Thanks for your continued support. I want that yellow 67 Ford Falcon Futura Sports Coupe!!!!!!
@CAROLDDISCOVER-2025 Жыл бұрын
@@gaspumprob you go get that yellow falcon. I will share some sources for parts. The Skelly ☢️ sign as captivated me since I was a kid. I don't know what got it started. But those long-ago disappeared especially from my parts. I heard helicopter least once in the background
@gaspumprob Жыл бұрын
@@CAROLDDISCOVER-2025 Thanks for the reply and I have the Falcon on my mind since I saw it sitting there. I am hoping you find me a sign or cool old pump in the future during one of your car hunting trips. Back on the road here heading west.
