One of your best videos yet. I wouldn't say it's in a class by itself anymore, but it is still the leader of the class. The new 7 and the G90 are it's biggest competitors. The Lexus LS has completely fallen off and is an also ran at this point. It's about 10 years behind the newest competition, per Toyota/Lexus tradition. The A8 while technically a brilliant car has a yawn inducing design and thus has never sold as well as it should have.

It’s not really clear why reviewers must emphasize that the US only gets long wheelbase version. This has been the case for the S class since 1985 so 37 years now. There have been some rare models in the late 80’s to 90’s like the 300SE and the 420SE but that all ended along with naming convention being class first , displacement second.

Its more of a car that someone would be driven in rather than driving it. So priority with the S-Class is passenger comfort. Now go to the AMG side and that is for driver experience.

The S-Class is still the benchmark of prestige. It is hard to argue that it is not due to decades of being the standard-bearer. That said, design-wise, it no longer has the edge against its competitors. The exterior styling is borderline anonymous and the interior design seems to be a notable step back in theme and execution, and especially ergonomics. We own a 2017 S63 and it may sound biased, but that car gives up nothing to this. BMW went WILD on the new 7 Series exterior design(the pinnacle of love/hate), but it is hard to argue that their new interior design language isn't an advancement and is a technical tour de force. Then there is the new kid on the block, the Genesis G90. It is perhaps the best all-arounder of the class. Styling is avant-garde and non-derivitive, and the interior design, quality, precision, and technology is right there with the Benz(surpasses this particular example). Benz just seemingly phoned it in on this generation, tragic since the W222 was such a dramatic step up from it's predecessor.

I have to disagree. Yeah if you want wild and ugly as hell yeah the 7 is the way to go. Tech wise it doesn't have anything the S doesn't. Gimmicks like doors that half work are what separate it. The G90 is nice, but doesn't equal the S in engineering. The Benz (S500) still drives and handles better, is more efficient while also being faster. I don't see how Benz phone anything in when the W223 is superior to the W222 in all objective measures. Styling is an opinion. There wasn't any need for a dramatic departure as the W222 was still a leading vehicle. BMW had to do something get out from under Mercedes' shadow, but the car is grotesque. G90 doesn't has that list bit of engineering that the S does so easily and no V8.

How would you compare this to the previous generation S-class? Personally, I still think that the previous generation S-class looks better, aesthetically, although I can't comment on the merits of both cars as I haven't been in either. Would you say that this is a noticeably better car than the last generation, or would you characterise this as only a small step up from the last generation? While you say nothing soaks up bumps like an S-class, a lot of other reviewers on KZbin have said that about Rolls-Royce, which hasn't featured on your channel yet from what I can see. Any chance of testing a Rolls-Royce Ghost at some point?

So to answer the first part of your question, it's not a huge change from the previous generation in any way EXCEPT the technology. That aspect gets outdated quickly on cars these days but comfort and luxury of the previous gen are still spectacular. As far as a comparison to Rolls Royce, we haven't driven one of them yet so our benchmark of ride quality is the S-Class for now. Hope this helps!

If you were to look up the pinnacle german luxury automotive i bet you 9/10 this will be #1. Mercedes modo is “the best or nothing” and Mercedes still stands true to that statement. The exquisiteness, care and built quality that they put into this shows that the brand cares. However, could they have cared enough to give you a heads-up display and rear climate controls? On a 130 grand vehicle thats pretty greedy. Thats just asking for money. But besides that, the tech is pretty normal nothing to impressive now, luxury is 10/10 especially when u are comparing and contrasting different brands.

I think auto reviewers are biased towards the Mercedes Benz. They don't complain about basic things that don't come with it except optional, e.g no heads up display at this price point, they don't complain about all touch screens without actual nobs etc. The Genesis G90 seems to be a better vehicle

You cannot compare an S Class to a C Class. Price has nothing to do with the difference between them. The C Class is cheaply built for the masses. The S Clas is a work of art built for those of us who wouldn't dare even test drive a C Class or an E Class.
