I just picked up my 2024 JCW Clubman earlier tonight; I consider myself pretty tech-savvy, but had ZERO idea what that lower button on the left indicator was all about, and neither did my sales guy, who I've worked with for years LOL :) (Not my first Mini) I went to ye olde internet to find out and came across your video in search of the answer and you actually answered it for me without intending to. Kudos! :D Thank you!

@myschevious11 Thank you! I talk to Sales all the time and the lack of automotive passion from some pushed me to make this channel. Nobody seems to care if you understand your new complex expensive device.

So on my 2023 Cooper S when I use the signal lights the green arrows are at the top of my display (right behind the top of the steering wheel 🙄) but it looks like it also has arrows next to the fuel level gauge, is there away to change which green arrows light up?

I have a 2023 Clubman JCW All 4. Is the max distance on a full tank of gas on a Clubman S more than in the JCW? I get a max distance of about 364 on a full tank of gas. How are you able to get 432mi?
@theautointuitive3172 Жыл бұрын
Clubman S drinks less gas than JCW for sure due to higher performance output. 301hp Vs. 189hp. The average range on your car shows after 3 months. Drive it "normal" for a while, then put gas in. Some folks get 23mpg and some 30mpg

I drove the new mini as a loaner while mine was in the shop. Here's a little fun fact I found out about the instrument cluster: It's not actually completely digital. Only the center portion is a digital screen The tachometer is a traditional analog stepper motor needle like you'd see in most other cars, its just behind a matte finish to make it look flat and digital. The fuel Guage and notification lights on the right side (like the check engine and seatbelt lights) are also traditional analog, using a plastic mask with an individual LED per element. The fuel Guage (and tachometer numbers) are also just masked individual LED's with light pipes. If you look closely, especially with light coming from the side, it becomes much more apparent. It's done because non OLED screens with rounded edges are incredibly expensive to manufacture, and OLED's (which readily come in odd shapes) aren't usable in these cases due to burn in and longevity issues, so BMW opted to fake the digital effect with analog instruments.

Incredible observation! Excellent input and thank you for that information. I truly enjoy others perspectives.

I don't like this instrument cluster. It reminds me of an oval iPhone. For a car that has its roots in vintage racing of the 1960s I would prefer analog instruments directly in front of the driver. The big circular multifunction display in the middle is okay for managing all the systems but I think round analog gauges for the tach and speedometer just look better.

I agree. The motorcycle derived gauges were excellent. Matches the car's minimalist analog purpose.

@@theautointuitive3172 Amen to that. Hope they revert back to the old school gauges and even more so hope they never stop manufacturing the manual transmission.

@@theautointuitive3172 I have a 2011 MCS Hardtop. As a nod to the classics it's British Racing Green with 2 broad white racing stripes on the hood and trunk. Also a (simulated) wood dash. If they offered wire wheels I would've taken them. My first car crush was the Triumph TR4.
