Test drove this last week. Honestly was really impressed with how well it handled and how solid it felt. Only huge bummer is that the DC charging is only available with SEL trim or up so if you don't like the diamond leather seats you have to spring for the premium package with the "burlap" accent interior and that trim is 50k. The standard suede seats are the best in my opinion.

@1:54 - CVT? There is no CVT in the 2023 Outlander PHEV, as a matter of fact, there is no transmission whatsoever. The ICE engine clutches to the front axle as a direct drive over 70 km/h. Below that, the ICE is connected to a generator that feeds the electric motors / charges the battery.

It doesn't fall on its face after 50 mph, the computer limits the torque delivery from the electricmotors. But if you were to stab on it at rolling 60mph, it will still take off like how it does at low speed. The electric torque is limited by factory as it's limited 250hp.

Thanks for the review! -- I bought my 2023 Outlander PHEV (SEL Premium) 4 weeks ago - local dealer (Columbus, Ohio - USA) had 7 Outlander PHEVs on the lot. I got mine for $1,200 UNDER MSRP and the dealer gave me $31,500 for my 2018 Acura TLX -- I paid $18,000 plus tax for the Outlander. I have driven 1,340 miles -- getting 78 MPGe. I am plugging it in every night for my daily commute and weekend errands. It feels "luxurious" inside -- premium leather, panoramic roof, 360 camera, power folding side mirrors, heated, steering wheel, heated seats, hands-free tailgate, head up display, Bose speakers AND massaging seats! If I take a longer drive, I will have no "range anxiety." Plus, the Outlander has a 10-YEAR WARRANTY. ONE BIG NOTE: the owner's manual clearly states that the 3rd row is ONLY for people under 5' 3." I do not need a 3rd row, so I "tri-fold" it. This opens up a HUGE, DEEP storage well. And, I can stack duffel bag items on the folded 3rd row! The RAV4 Prime may have better overall mpg, but the 18-month wait and $12,000 "dealer adjustment" are outrageous. One local dealer wanted $65k for loaded Prime with MSRP of $52k. I did not consider Kia or Hyundai brands -- "Kia boys" have stolen 3,000 of them in my area (and assaulted drivers in the process). This is a real issue. Lastly, my home solar panels will be installed in 6 weeks along with a Level 2 charger in my garage. The Outlander PHEV is the PERFECT choice for me in 2023. Final note: the local dealer now has 14 Outlander PHEVs on the lot and offering $1,250 off MSRP. Availability, luxury, value and price -- a great vehicle to "step into" electrification!

It DOES NOT have a CVT. It does have a SINGLE SPEED gearbox connection between the engine and the front axle. This direct connection only occurs at higher speeds, above 70 km/hr, or 45 mph.

Good overall review. I like the point about moving the front passenger seat forward to make more room for the second row and then the jumper third row. I wish there was a button to the left of the steering wheel that easily locks out the slide back on the driver seat when opening the drivers door so that something similar can be achieved on the driver side without squashing the 2nd row passenger to maximize the leg room in the jumper third row.

There is a setting that does this -- scroll through "Settings" and you will find it. I have had my toes crushed when in the back seat of Lexus SUV. I turned it off in my Outlander the first day -- the Outlander is so roomy, no need for the driver seat to slide back to exit.

@drzoidberg1 I just keep it turned off. No problem entering and exiting the vehicle. Actually, the setting I would prefer is having the 360 camera come on automatically at speed under 10 mph. My Acura had this. Made parking a bit easier in parking lots with small spaces. I hit the "camera" button in the Outlander, but a bit distracting.

@drzoidberg1 my friend who is 6'2" and 350 pounds struggled to get into passenger side of my Outlander, so I get it. My view: if you're that big, Outlander is likely not the right vehicle to drive.

Is the gas engine actually mated via a CVT? I was under the impression it had a clutch that only engaged under certain conditions but otherwise the gas engine only acted as a generator for more electrical power in most cases.

It is a single speed CVT and as it was explained to me the gas engine is not connected to the drivetrain and only powers the electric motors supplying more horse power and torque when needed. I have a 22 Outlander that I love but will trade it in once they get the trim package and color combo I want for the PHEV.

Thanks for the video. I have a 2023 Hyundai Sonata hybrid limited and just bought the Outlander SEL Premium. When I turn on the left/right turn signals on the Sonata, the side marrow camaras automatically come on on the dashboard behind the steering wheel to show if there is a car on the lane I am trying to get on, beeps if the car on that lane is too close and not safe to turn. When I activate the turn signal on the outlander, the cameras on the marrows don't activate to help with the blind spots. What is the use of the cameras then aside from pressing the camera tab below the navigation screen or how are they activated in traffic during a turn? I will appreciate your help.

@Dan-il6pl Жыл бұрын
The surround view camera is more for backing up and parallel parking and does not come on when changing lanes. It does however have blind spot monitoring and if you ignore that and start to move into the lane that is occupied it will beep and vibrate the wheel. You should always be using your mirrors anyway and not rely on safety tech.

@Dan-il6pl
@Dan-il6pl Жыл бұрын
Not 100%...I look at safety tech as an aid but it is not going to be accurate 100% depending on conditions so I try to rely on my own actions first. I will say there was one time recently that I was distracted, and my outlander did stop itself averting an accident so it can help. I'm just saying we should not rely on safety tech to work 100% of the time

Is there any car seat anchor point in the third row?
@nameless-og
@nameless-og Жыл бұрын
I looked a long time for boosters that didn't need to use the anchors but still came with them (thats the trick here), seat belt compatible but still with a real 5 point harness (so the belt doesn't actually go around your child) and that's what I put back there in my 07 until they could use just the booster. I think safety first and Cosco were the brands, but you have to go look at them in person to know if they work that way. Seatbelt goes through the seat (not in front) and the 5 point is what the child actually straps into.

@drzoidberg1
@drzoidberg1 Жыл бұрын
The charger can be a downside for some, it depends on your driving needs though. If you are driving less than the 40 miles / 60km range a day you will have juice left in the battery when you charge it so the total time back to 20 kW is less. But if I can see how a higher capacity charger would be beneficial for multiple short trips from your house that exceeds 40 miles / 60 km of driving a day.
@SkaBob
@SkaBob Жыл бұрын
Yes a 6.5 hour charge time could be an issue if you drive to work in EV and nearly use the entire battery then need to fully charge again before you go home. If you run out to pick something up or get coffee or lunch and come back you may not have enough plug time to recharge. I've seen in Japan it comes with a 7.2KW onboard charger but the US gets a slower one.

At about 12:20, when you were talking about the flappy paddles, you said they don't control the CVT. IT DOES NOT HAVE A CVT, so they couldn't control something the vehicle does not have, even if they wanted to. Stop saying WRONG things about the vehicle. Do your research before you make these videos.
