WeatherTech Championship races will always be available the Thursday following the live TV broadcast. Thanks!
1:52:07 for the race-defining wavearound mistake in GTD Pro. Basically, the overall leader at the time (Jensen) split the GTD field - Lally, Van Berlo were ahead of him when the caution flew, but Auberlen and every GTD behind him got trapped behind Jensen. So, by the wavearound rules, all GTD cars had to pass the SC to take back their last lost lap and queue up in single file behind Lally. HOWEVER, GTD Pro leader Gunn and Garcia were behind Auberlen as well - their difference is that, starting with Gunn, all five GTD Pro cars leaders were already down by the same lap behind Jensen, so none of them had to pass the SC to form their queue! Gunn and Garcia did nonetheless (essentially getting almost a lap ahread of Barnicoat and Gounon who stayed put), so they got penalised. This was the weird, rare case which led to all GTD runners legitimately overtaking all GTD Pro before the restart. (Happens when the overall leader splits the GTD field, but not the GTD Pro, at the moment of a caution, and the GTD leader happens to be in front of the GTD Pro leader for whatever reason.) It happened back in Daytona a few years ago as well. And Gunn in the #23 Aston slowed down later on so much, because he (and presumably Garcia as well) wanted to bargain over the radio that they'd let all the other warearound-ing GTDs past them, just let the two of them fall back behind the SC. Of course, neither the GTDs, nor race control was having none of it. And Lally, in the #44 Aston slowed down that much, because he was tight on fuel, so he wanted to coast to the absolute limit. He did the last 1h25m on a single tank of fuel. (Normal GTD range is 1h15m max.) Bit complicated race! :D

My emergency vehicle is a white F-350 dually with yellow oil absorbent dispenser on the back. You can see me on the track at 1:54:30 at the exit of T9 where I am backing up after realizing my front tire dropped 6 inches into the gravel. I then went around the gravel and you can see me at 1:55:06 behind the track position graphic. We have a heavy duty steel bumper we use to push tires back into position. Lastly at 1:57:02 where I am at the exit of 11 acting as a barrier to any race car that might hit the recovery crew. Took a long time as the tow points were breaking off. The right rear suspension was damaged and the tire was jammed into the body, but still dragging the ground. It's a rush going through the corkscrew side by side with one of those race cars. Fun time. If you want to have that experience, join the SCCA and volunteer to work the e-crew.

So at 27:31 the wall repair fork lift is trying to get to the wall to fix it. He is off course, but if two cars touched and one went off the track into that thing it would be skewered. Of course waiting for it to drive all the way around would have taken forever. I think if this happens like this again, either 1) drive another vehicle in front of it, or 2) with the pit entrance blocked, go up to start finish and hang a U-turn and head down through the pit lane. Raising the forks above the car level is another option.

I was in awe 2 👀 Mr. Mamola, and Mr. Gardner doing there thing. My oldest was almost one, so I and my younger brother rented a convertible Mustang. This was a rare opportunity Just I, and Richie the goat. Unfortunately on 10/09/22, we lost him on Willow St. S.F. to Fentynal (FKN Crazy😂). This was intended to be in his memory, but last second life happens. No regrets, next time will kill. Would like some $ back, but I'm sure went to good cause. At least I get to watch it.

The Andretti incident is as much a tribute to the work of the great Jackie Stewart as it is to the design of the GT3 cars. Of the many safety issues he championed, those hard-ended concrete walls were a big concern of his. Their elimination, heavy treatment with energy absorbing materials, or sloping design were things he campaigned heavily for.

The pit-out lane is a valid part of the circuit to race on? Saw some cars going through the green buffer zone all the way into the pit-out lane. The race start pass for example. Also, I think the way the cars get sorted at the end of pit lane when the red light is on is unfair. Some cars get done with their stop early but have to slow down because of the cue of cars waiting and then cars further down the pit lane pop out of the box and park besides them and stick their nose in front even though the other car would have already been gone if the red light wasn't on.

The proportionality of the penalties for the wave-around mistakes made by the two GTD cars - relative to the ones assessed for other infractions, that damage other drivers' vehicles, cause safety issues in the pits and such - is ludicrous! It's akin to "Defendant #1: you're guilty of punching a man and taking his wallet - 9 months probation. Defendant #2: you improperly took a tax deduction for a $50 donation to a group that's not exempt - 2 years in prison!" Why it wouldn't simply be a matter of advising the driver/s that they aren't where they're supposed to be and placing them back in the proper place is baffling - it's not like any teams can "put one over" on today's electronic timing/scoring. Very, VERY disappointing, IMSA!
@rsr-warrior Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! I must say the camera views at Laguna make the cars look very slow, which made the race a bit underwhelming. The three FCYs I timed more or less seemed to be just under 20min, 16min and 15min. AND I think the track seems to be too small for all 3 classes. I mention these because I think you can do better. No manufacturer logos next to the driver names on the HUD. The very large and round IMSA Weathertech logo top left is so big only the top 5 in every class can be listed most of the time. YOU REALLY NEED A REVAMP GUYS. Take some tips from FIAWEC and MotoGP coverage.
@imsaofficial Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback! The on-screen graphics were just implemented this year and do include the manufacturer logo next to the driver name. However, the graphics do change within the scoring pylon. Either way, thanks again for your feedback and apologies if the graphics are not to your liking.

Fully agree that despite a really interesting race here, the video production does leave something to be desired. The elevation changes at this track are spectacular but it seems we only get a decent sense of it at the corkscrew's exit. Would love to see more close-up shots showing the drama of turn 9 and 10 and more bird's eye shots to better show track position around turn 6. Don't know if any of this is feasible but I'm a huge fan of IMSA's on-track product and want to see them access every ounce of exposure they can reach.

Quite disappointing that the owners of Leguna Seca have taken it upon themselves to add pavement outside many of the turns. Now the track limits are basically meaningless. What a shame.
@griffinfaulkner3514 Жыл бұрын
They actually have a more practical reason to do so than most tracks; every time they get more than light rain, it washes a significant amount of sand and gravel onto the track because of the elevation changes, and they have to literally shovel it back off. Having the runoff there acts as a bit of a buffer zone, and it's probably incredibly slippery out there anyway.
@ZeGermanHam Жыл бұрын
@@griffinfaulkner3514 I was at at a different track yesterday chatting with some friends about it. Apparently they are in the process of repaving the entire track surface at Leguna right now,. I was told that the new asphalt is (was) temporary as a result of all the heavy rain that California got this winter. Hopefully they will address the drainage issues during repaving and won't need extra pavement out the outside of those corners when it's all done.

Agreed! WEC and Fanatec GT include retired professional drivers as commentators, who can accurately describe on-track action and don't need to resort to meandering sidebars detailing how much they enjoy themselves and how many people they know, ad nauseum, as Hindoff does. Usually, I reach my limit within the 1st hour and turn the sound off. If an in-car is available, I turn the sound up for that (after all, it should have the sound of racing engines) to supplement the video. Not ideal, but better than the alternative.
