The complete Mountain Motor Pro Stock Eliminations of the 23rd Annual 2023 NHRA Route 66 Nationals at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois.
The NHRA is headed back to Chicago and Route 66 Raceway for the first time since 2019 for the Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by PEAK Performance. The fan-favorite facility has played host to several memorable moments and record performances over the past two-plus decades and race fans will be eager to again enjoy all the intense 11,000-horsepower, 330-mph racing action in the Windy City.

Chevy never made a hemi. This engine is a copy of a Ford Kaase head. The IHRA told J Kaase if he did not show Sonny L his hemi heads they would factor anyone running his engines. So, in reality that Chevy has a Ford design under the hood. LMAO

“Mountain Motor Pro Stock feature engines in excess of 820-cubic inches with nearly 2,000 horsepower. We don't run the high RPM the 500 ci teams do. They can run 10,500 rpm, and we are only about an 8,200 rpm engine. The bore and stroke combination is a lot different. Unlike the current rules for the 500ci NHRA Pro Stock class, Mountain Motor Pro Stocks can still use carburetors or fuel injection, and that means hood scoops,…” Definitely is a pretty cool and unique class, I hope it grows, as it’s still a relatively new class using the older pro stock formula.

Actually I much prefer the heavy sound of the big engines. Originally Pro Stockers revved in the range of the Mountain engines of today.

They sound better than the 500 ci engines. That hollow thump is so cool. Some engines are 959 ci.

​@brenthill3241 It sounds so generic. So many V8 engines rev to 8000. From Pro Mods to Top Fuel. The only variation is really the decibel level. There's not a lot that rev up to the moon in drag racing. Mostly motorcycles. A car doing it? Now that's impressive engineering.

​@@ricktaylor3748Rarely do you hear a crossplane V8 rev to 10000. Not even NASCAR does it. That's why the 500ci class sounds so different from the rest of the V8s in drag racing.
