2023 Ninja 1000SX 13 Month Review

I love my 2023.....I do all my own MODS......youtube videos are priceless to remove the bodywork for sure! Added the 12v socket, megaphone style slip-on, Puig screen, rad guard, Nelson Rigg tail bag, tail tidy and Custom LED tail light integrated signals, front fender extender. The transmission is so smooth and the cruise and quick shifter. Great looking package. I'm glad I was able to find the green & Black (Kawasaki Racing colors) At 5'8" 155 and ready to turn 61....the bike fits great. Do all the maintenance you can yourself, it pays off and it's rewarding. Take care, at least in North Florida I have extended riding time.

Keep building content! Love my 2021 1000sx, I have the upgraded seat. Went with the Ergo fit extended reach, better then original but haven’t done more than 2 hours. My latest shop fiasco is dropping a chain the second ride after a shop mounted my 2nd rear Michelin Road 6 GT (15k miles). It’s obvious they neglected to torque the left cam to specification… Now replacing rear sprocket, chain and front sprocket! I have both the Puig screen and the National V-Stream Cycle Sport Touring screen (N20123) and find the V-Stream to be far superior to the rest of the windscreens.

Got the same bike as you. Im 42 yo and in good shape. After a 3 hours ride my butt is killing me most of the time as well. Will definitly upgrade my seat next season. Regards from Montreal, Quebec , Canada. Love your videos keep at it ;)

Hey Old Guy, I have the 2023 as well. Amazing bike! After 7000 kms, would also recommend. I too get sore butt after about 3 hrs of riding. I obviously had (still have) the option to buy the gel seat but opted out at point of purchase and not sure if Id be better off getting.. wondering if it works and you are interested but if you can give your opinion/ thoughts on your upgrade gel seat after you get some time on it? I took my 650 versus to a dealer because the water pump seal started to leak... however when you press that seal in to fix it you must also press an oil, seal in... both seal must be done... now I have a small oil leak from the seals to monitor but no coolant leak... I will get it done in a couple of years by a new mechanic I have found... we all know that no one has successfully pressed two seals in without one leaking.... 9:49

Brilliant review. Between the N1sx and your former MT09 sp which do you prefer, do you miss the MT09?

Thanks. The only thing I miss about the 09 (and I had the base model, not the SP) is the sound. That triple with a full aftermarket exhaust was awesome. But that's it! The 1000sx gives me a more comfortable ride without sacrificing any performance or handling. Great question. Ride well.

It's a Sedici Alexi 2. Comes with 2 liners. A waterproof liner and a colder weather liner. There are NOT interchangeable. The waterproof liner goes in first, and the colder weather liner attaches to it. Been a fine jacket so far.

Ooooo! I'm not sure how to take this. Secondhand is always a bit sketchy to me. I hope all works out well for you. My father's family comes from France. The spelling would be Beranger. Let me know how you like/dislike it. I just performed my 7,600 mile maintenance and it runs fantastic. I'll get out another video on that and other mods I've done recently. Ride well, mon ami.

Good to hear, except the rain part. I ride all year long but only when it's dry out. Occasionally, I'll get caught in a rainstorm, but not often. Hope the weather stays nice for you. Ride well!

I love your videos and I hate you :) The reason why is that I stored my 1000sx for the winter and I cannot drive it till may next year, your videos are all I got for now I drove it for 95 hours so far and 6000km Changed oil myself, added fuel and stabilizer for winter Amazing bike Thank you for the infos

Have you done a 5+ hour ride on the 1000sx? I'm wondering on aches and pain after long rides. I'm considering the 2024 Yamaha Trager 9GT+ due to comfort. Your thoughts?

I ride for 3 hours or so and have had no issues with comfort. I have a total knee replacement and a fusion with instrumentation L5-S1, and yet do not suffer any ill effects from my rides. Occasionally, on the colder days, my knee gets a bit stiff. That being said, I can only tell you my experience. I've no idea of your physical condition or any ailments you may have, so for me to tell you you'll be fine would be a mistake. Do your research, test ride as many bikes as you can, and I'm sure you'll make the best decision. Ride well friend.

Not knowing your riding habits leaves me with no answer for you. I'm strictly a road rider. That being said, I like getting some speed going at times as well as going through the twisties. Then, there are times when I just feel like relaxing and enjoying the ride. If this sounds close to your riding habits, I would recommend the 1000sx. If you tend to enjoy going off-road occasionally, the Versys may be a better choice. If you can, test ride both and then decide Ride well and best of luck with whichever bike you choose.

Are you able to reset the service light, if there is one? Most bikes nowadays needs a diagnostic tool even to bleed the brake master cylinders

Good question. I'll have to check. If by service light, you mean the reminder that service is needed then, yes. You can reset it.

Confirming after 2 - 3 hrs in the seat, it becomes an issue. With 39 years inside. And in good shape. And with aftermarket padded seat. On a 2016 model. So you're holding up pretty good old guy! :)

Curious, you had an mt09, and went with this. I have an fz09(last year before they changed the name, technically they were calling it a mt09 in Europe), which is essentially the bike you sold. I was looking at these sport touring bikes, also the suzuki. What made you switch to this, and do you like it better? Any other pros/cons you'd like to add would be nice.

I enjoyed the MT-09, no doubt. But I wanted a more comfortable ride. I'm 71 now with a fusion with instrumentation in my lower back (L5-S1). The suspension of the MT-09 was just too stiff. As you age, your muscles atrophy. So the support my lower back muscles supplied was waning. The Ninja 1000sx is a bit heavier at 513 lbs. This, along with a more sophisticated suspension, provides a smoother, more comfortable ride. There's nothing I could do on the MT-09 that I can't do on the Ninja 1000sx. In fact, the Ninja 1000sx is more powerful and stable a ride. It's agility matches that of the MT-09. I can maneuver just as easily and feel in complete control. The only con I found is that a USB port must be installed. You'd think a "sport/tourer" would be equipped with such a port. Other than that, it's AWESOME! I looked at the Suzuki, but, in comparison, the Ninja 1000sx was a plusher, more technologically sound bike. That may have improved, but my choice has left me with a sound, fantastic bike that will, undoubtedly, prolong my riding experience. I hope this answers your questions. Ride well.

@OldGuyRidin yes! Thank you for the detailed response and yes that answers a lot of questions! I find it interesting that the Kawasaki is more comfortable. I think that's what I'm after as well. I've changed the seat and added an adjustable windscreen that helps a lot on the fz09, but I like the stock panniers and look and comfort of the sport touring. I may end up going the same route as you in a year or 2. Safe riding!

The stock seats are okay, but I upgraded to the gel seats. Much better for those longer rides.

@@OldGuyRidin So, long story short, the shop that I dropped my wheels and tires off, grew legs and walked off! So I am waiting for them to replace them. Crazy, right? Anyways, this lead me to go throw a leg over a Ninja1000sx. Man, I didn't ride it, but it definitely felt more comfortable! I love my FZ-09, it looks great and I've put a lot of upgrades. Now, I did put a Puig windscreen, and then later added an adjustable one, and changed the horrible stock seat and put some riser clip on bars, which helped a lot. I think I value comfort as most important as I live in New Mexico and there is TONS of great riding around here for the long haul. Prior to the FZ-09 I rode cruisers. I feel you on the stiff suspension! I am curious, does the Ninja full fairing actually make the ride less windy, more smooth and "slip-stream"? I'm also just thinking maybe find a used Ninja650 and I also want to throw a leg over a Honda CBR600 as well, just to have a 2ndary bike. The Ninja 650 hp seems underwhelming and if I end up liking the 100sx more, then I might as well go all in - like you did. I threw a leg over a couple Suzuki's as well, and they didn't feel anywhere near as comfortable. 100sx has some nice things like cruise control. Not sure how that lean angle assistance thing works - seems like it would be annoying, but I have over cooked a turn once or twice so maybe that's nice? My only gripe about the 1000sx is that the style looks somewhat dated compared to other bikes out there. It's still a great looking ride, but could use a little help in the looks department. Strangely, as big as it looks, the wheel base length is the same as the FZ/MT-09. But it still looks great compared to the fast growing full on touring/adventure bikes market. They look better than before, but don't hold a candle to the 1000sx!

I think you'd be making a fine choice with the 1000sx. There's a touring windscreen screen you can get, but the Puig windscreen is sufficient for me. The 1000sx has it all over the Suzuki 1000gs. It's so much more refined. Keep me posted on your thoughts. Ride well.
