18 years with a 2005 Frontier no issues. 14 months with new Frontier Pro4x and it's been great. Before I purchased, I talked with the service advisor I have worked with for years about the Direct injection and he said they actually haven't had many issues with it and carbon build up. They have used DI engines for a long time now.
@dalephillips8250 Жыл бұрын
Are you sure?...That DIRECT injection is the main reason I'm scared to go with the Nissan over the Tacoma...no one can show any high mileage examples of the engine to critique it. Please ask those mechs if they know of any over 100K miles..You know the Titan switch to DI and they are having issues

Ben, I watch TONS of your videos. You always do a great job. Researching a pickup truck. Leaning toward a midsize, but will consider a 1/2 ton for towing a small camper and hauling camping gear. THANK YOU for mentioning the payload for this truck. Much appreciated. Payload is often the most overlooked aspect of buying a truck. Love the midnight edition of the Frontier. Yes, the Pro4X is bad ass, but I don’t need that much off-road ability and payload suffers. So, the midnight edition looks sharp without breaking the bank. Kudos to Nissan for adding the Midnight Edition.

Own the 22 P4X and no issues. Rides great, shifts smooth, and decent mpg for a naturally aspirated 6. Quietest cabin I have ever driven in. Was going for a new Ranger, but truck had issues before I could take delivery. Glad I looked at the Frontier. Leaps and bounds better IMHO.

41k for the comparable trim of the Tacoma SR5 is terrible value. You can get a TRD off-road for that price which is comparable to the Pro-4x. That Mercedes Benz transmission on the frontier also has a recall. Don’t get me wrong the transmission on the Tacoma sucks too (gear hunting), but it’s less prone to failure.

I agree with you on the transmission for the Taco. The Toyota Taco has no guts when it comes to towing a trailer either. I had one in 2016 and was excited to take it up to Colorado deer hunting. For awhile, I didn't think it was gong to get up there (Interstate 70 East). The RPM's were revving way up there over 5k. We even ran out of gas just past the Utah/Colorado border. When I got back home, I traded it in for a F150. I loved the power and quietness of the F150. Just hate the price. Going back to my old faithful Frontier, which gave me years of reliability and towing ability. Only reason why I got rid of it before was I got tired of the body style and wanted something a bit more stylish. Glad to see Nissan has finally stepped up the Frontier design. Waiting on a Pro4X to come to a dealership here in Cali.

Just traded in my 2015 Tacoma SR5 for a 2023 Frontier SV. The 3 big reasons I chose the Frontier over the Colorado and Tacoma were 1) assembled in America, 2) V6 powerplant, not a turbo 4 banger, and 3) the Frontier's truck styling. The Colorado has sharp styling as well, but bed railing that is too high on the sides to reach in and retrieve anything, which put it at a disadvantage. I won't own another Ford so didn't even look at the Ranger.
