I drove a Modus that had a light American style steering wheel. Initially I wasnt sure about it & took me a month & it clicked & in town it was a breeze & open road it slightly stiffened & I drove fine, in Europe we like it weighted with resistance. Give me the light any day, dont fight against it just go with it.

I have a Tekna + With all the bells and whistles. It is the standard petrol version, not the epower version. You say the CVT gearbox is noisy. I have done 14,000 miles and I can honestly say it is as quiet as any car I have driven and it is incredibly smooth. Also, you can put the power steering into sport and leave it there. It gives a nice weight to the steering and a very spirited driving experience, if you have the talent, thanks to the multi link suspension on the rear. Regarding the tech. It has everything you need, for driving around town, or long journeys. it really is a very comfortable car, that fills you with confidence. As for its looks, it is the business. It has many lines lifted straight from the Lexus SUV, making it look purposeful and sophisticated. I could harp on for hours about this brilliant car. I don’t understand what you mean about the infotainment system. It has Apple CarPlay and android auto. My car has the 10 speaker Bose system, which sounds amazing. The satnav is as good as any, as I think it is a TomTom system. And lets you know if there are any problems and hold-ups on the road. All the information you need is shown on the largest HUD in its class. Just another standard feature on the top of the range. If you were to buy a BMW or Mercedes, you would pay a fortune for the standard extras you get with a Qashqai Tekna+. That is why it is a bestseller. 🙂

A lot of your comments vs the rivals I agree with. It’s by no means a bad car, definitely worthy of being a bestseller. Its just that I drive pretty much every car in the class, so I have to compare things accordingly. Standard equipment on nissans is great, I just think they’re a bit numb in comparison to some other cars as a driving experience. And trust me, the tech is not a patch on Kia/Hyundai etc. But again, they are often more expensive. A lot of people just want something reliable and practical, and good value, which this is, which hopefully came across in my review.

I have the Epower Tekna. Local driving I'm getting 4.5 litres per 100km. Which is about 64mpg in UK figures. I don't do many long journeys but still get high 40s to low 50s on a run. E Pedal and gentle driving makes a difference... You can trash figures by booting it if you want... 😉

@@whocares264 pollution is an important issue around densely occupied conurbations, rightly controlled by LEZs which we can expect to become only more strict as time goes on. Away from city dwellers' lungs the pollution issue is GHGs, and that's not the fault of burning fuel but where we get it from. We must start recycling our GHGs so they're just another way of storing energy.

What is the point of the turbo on the petrol engine? Nissan and all the reviewers state that the IC engine is "just" to charge the battery, there is no physical connection to the driven wheels nor any performance assistance because the wheels are driven directly by electric motors, fed from the battery and inverter so the performance advantages of a turbo engine are pointless, as far as I can see a normally aspirated engine would perform the sme task! I don't get it.
@ItsDanLatham
@ItsDanLatham 8 ай бұрын
I thought the same thing, but you can find in depth explanation of exactly the reason for this here: www.nissan-global.com/EN/INNOVATION/TECHNOLOGY/ARCHIVE/E_POWER/#:~:text=The%20e%2DPOWER%20system%20is,motor%20and%20a%20gasoline%20engine.

@@ItsDanLatham thanks for the link Dan, I’m not trying to catch you out on this, I’m just looking for a logical explanation from someone in the business. 😊 They still don’t explain the reason for using a sophisticated, variable compression, turbo charged engine as a generator when in simple terms, they could use a straight forward, conventional Donkey engine for the job allocated to it. “Combined use of the engine and turbocharger enables the vehicle to deliver high torque on par with a large displacement engine, despite the 1.5L, small-displacement engine that it has, by lowering the compression ratio and raising boost pressure, such as when driving at full throttle” just doesn’t cut the mustard if it just acts as a generator, in fact it contradicts itself that the petrol engine plays no part in the performance of the vehicle! 🤔
@ItsDanLatham
@ItsDanLatham 7 ай бұрын
@@kuntibolox from what I can gather, it needs a relatively large amount of torque to provide enough energy for the level of performance in the electric motor, I imagine otherwise it would not keep it sufficiently charged. Which explains why it’s relatively average mpg wise and worse than a plug in. The turbo would mean they don’t have to use an N/A 2.0 or 3.0 or something to provide the same torque output. I guess it shows that as a generator an engine is relatively inefficient for this practice, and whilst it works well here as an alternative for those who can’t or won’t go EV or plug in, its probably why other manufacturers haven’t really toyed with this. Like yourself though I would love a more technical explanation to satisfy my curiosity and educate me on the science and figures behind this solution!
@kuntibolox
@kuntibolox 7 ай бұрын
@@ItsDanLatham I think you may be onto something with the torque theory Dan. I also don't understand why the motor battery is so small for a vehicle that uses motors only, directly on the driven wheels? Upping the capacity would increase the range and improve economy, they could still play on the "E-Power" trick and have a hybrid that produces competitive MPG figures!
@ItsDanLatham
@ItsDanLatham 7 ай бұрын
@@kuntibolox I’m wondering if that decision was made based on the fact that ICE engines are less expensive to maintain. It works better for the consumer if you have to replace a few engine parts rather than a very big heavy expensive battery for £10k or whatever they are on something tesla sized. But again, just speculation. I’ll quiz them on it next month when I see some Nissan reps, they’re bound to have more insight than the website!

@@whocares264 The motors give out 190bhp, they are fed by the battery, why do you need a 1.5, variable valve timing, turbo charged engine to charge that battery?. Granted, you need extra power for climbing hills, towing or when there isn't enough battery power but why that size and complexity of engine to charge the battery? There is no physical coupling between the IC engine and the driven wheels so there appears to be no benefit in adding a charging unit that is more than adequate to power the non e-power, 'mild hybrid' model by itself! @@whocares264 The IC engine in the e-power will directly feed the generator when the battery is depleted instead of being powered via the battery, (an EV with a petrol engine) so still giving electric drive right up to top speed. That reduces the battery size and weight and extends the range way beyond an EV whilst removing 'range anxiety' and planning journeys around charging stops. E-power ain't so stupid in that respect but it still doesn't answer my question.
