2023 Poor Boys RC Speed Run Challenge!!!

It's that time of year again, speed demons! Time for the Poor Boys RC Speed Run Challenge!!!
Last year was a total blast, and I really hope that every contestant comes back this year with their eyes on the prize! Bryce, I'm coming for ya!
This year we'll be racing the affordable and very customizable Tamiya TT-02. Be sure to watch the video to get all the rules, as this is a pretty open challenge, but there are some parameters we have to stay within.
Contest ends September 30th, 2023. So there's plenty of time for you to buy, build and start speed running your own TT-02. Be sure to tag me in all of your speed run videos so I can keep track of all entries.

@@poorboysrc our rc shop in holland don't have replacemend part or upgrade parts for tt-02. Have to wait for of minimal of sic weeks for minimal. Most of time i got it after 3 to 6 Mounth. Now I have to wait up to a year . So for me it's a no go.

Hi there Fil (I hope that's correct!) You might know I was helping Rob Brennan last year with his Luncherarri. Great fun was had! I'm toying with entering this one, I have a "spare" TT02 and a 15T brushed motor. Times are tight so can't afford to buy a load of kit for the challenge but think it might be a laugh to enter into the spirit of the speed run, I know it's not a serious competition, hey it's big boys playing with toys after all! Nice. I'm down. Just found out about this challenge but already have a head start. Been doing a TT02 McLaren speedrunner since April. No official runs yet but already getting 70mph in less than 600' on 3s geared 45/45 with Mamba X/2280kv.

It’s a shame, I’ve got the TT-02 spec car, already built, but unfortunately I don’t have a speed meter, they’re quite expensive for what they are and don’t know which one to buy, as some bicycle unit speed meters, don’t always grab the satellites. If you have an old cell phone that can download apps just delete everything and put a speedometer app on it and tape it to the chassis, a little heavier but more accurate than a bike speedo I've found.

@@Rcprescription I'm no expert on the platform differences, but from what I've read, the TT02 is the updated version of the TT01. There are many versions of the TT02, from simple, stripped down entry level kits, to fully ball raced, CVA ready kits. There's tons of mods available for both platforms, too! Hope that helps!

Yeah, we're definitely doing another Speed Run Challenge this year, but it'll be on a different chassis. We change the chassis every year. It'll be announced at the start of July, that way entrants have time to buy the chassis, get used to driving it, mods, etc... Then the SRC runs from August to the end of Sept. I got my own speedrun project I need to get out of the way first, and it's still like 4 weeks away, so I need to take it easy until then... NOT! While I do have a TT-02, it's a buggy... So I need to get me a few things and stuff, smaller wheels, shorter arms and axles, and a suitable body, it'll be really cool, I can't wait! Which is why I'll start on Monday... But brain starts now, ha ha! (I'm definitely not going to win...)

I'll give everyone 4-6 weeks of prep time (so you can purchase, build, and get to know the car if you don't already have one). And the contest runs for 8 weeks, so you've got lots of time to get runs in, break, repeat. I hope to see you there next year! 🍻

Well I'm pretty much ready to go. I built a tt02r last year for speed runs but kept destroying tires once I went above 50mph. Castle brushless motor/ hobbywing esc on 3s. I'll have to dial it in and try and get a good run on video. 👍

@poorboysrc I was using different tamiya compounds and they all blew up lol. I ended up getting gravity rc usgt premounted wheels and tires. They come preglued, you can get them on amain. My servo died last time I was out and I only got to test them once, but they seem pretty good.

I must've edited that part out accidentally. I'll show you guys why they're so terrible in an upcoming video. They're not even true oil filled shocks. The piston doesn't have any holes in it, and there's no oil in the shock body. Just a little grease, so the shaft slides smoothly. 🤦

Ok. I'm in. Seriously though where do you draw the line on customizations? Any body? Plastic tub chassis? Or are TT-02 specific upgrades ok? How large a foam tire that is meant for on-road are we allowed to run? As long as it's 3s is the only restriction? I'm asking, cause I like to build some pretty crazy cars.... my best with a TT-02 is 85mph on 2s so far.

Right on, welcome aboard! Yeah any body is OK, all TT02 upgrade parts are OK. Buggy tires are against the rules, so as far as your foam tires go, keep them the standard 1/10 scale size (65mm, I believe?). 85mph on 2S is insane, dude! But ya, the cap is 3S. I'll have lots more videos coming out with the speed runs, so feel free to ask any questions. 👊🏼🍻

I noticed in comments they'll be a brushed motor class as well. Also 3s? Forgive me if I'm a little too excited and yappy about this. This is right in line with what I normally build (Tamiyas).

@@craziestmonkey hahaha all good pal! Yeah I've modified the rules a little bit to level out the playing field. I'll explain fully in my upcoming video, Saturday. But basically: 2-3S lipo with brushless motors (category #1), and 6-7 cell nimh or nicad with a brushed motor (category #2). This should give all entrants a fair crack at winning the title, and prize! 🍻😉
