Hi Roger. This is one of my most favorite plants of your project. A bit of advice, if I may. Like all Vanda type plants, they don't suffer media around the roots. That's what your Renanthera is trying to tell you, if you observed it when you unpotted it: all of the roots inside the media were rotten and the only viable ones were the ones in the air. It's telling you that it wants to stay in the air. To hydrate aerial roots, you need to soak them for a prolonged time in a bucket or some such. Like 30 min per day, or overnight once per week. You may find the right balance between soaking time/dry time depending on your temp, light, air humidity, and air flow. If you keep plunging the roots into the media you risk losing them. That's my experience after losing a few myself... Anyway, I wish you all the best for your rare and precious Renathera. It sure is a surviver and it's trying to do its best to adapt.

Many people are growing Vandaceous types in media with great success - some cannot create the amount of humidity needed to maintain aerial roots. This course moss should be like a soak but still with plenty of air.

I live in Barbados and i have vandas. Here is always warm so i mist the roots every morning. Had countless blooms and the plants adapt well. All my vandas or just hang up, no media

Good stuff again and give big thumbs up to the series. Re your CITE's comment, I would like to add that sometime the Authorities are there own worst enemy against trying to save plants / orchids. I know of a situation where and endangered Orchid is being wiped out by so called controlled burning of undergrowth. A local Orchid society requested to be notified prior to this happening to have a chance of clearing away build up in know locations. The helpful authority refused and told them they would be prosecuted if they entered the area prior to burning. Go figure?

Hi Roger, fingers crossed she will like this new set up and environment, for my vandas with the extending roots, I have strips of microfiber wrapped around them, when I water them, I spray the microfiber with either water or feed and they now have their growing tips back, I have mine in all bark.

Many ways to grow Vandaceous types - it depends on temps and humidity levels.

I would keep a close eye on all those roots you placed under moss ... they are very temperamental to change

They're not doing very well in the air so this may be better.

This course moss has plenty of air but hopefully will help hydrate the plant.
