Good review Sam..I got the s-lab last year on your recommendation..it is great for races that have pavement, gravel roads and sand trails as a mixed terrain race..they are fast with enough cushioning and traction without sliding around..my only issue is putting them on..they really need a pull tab on the heel..either have to use a pr of pliers to pull them on or use a shoehorn..probably the most comfortable shoe I have ..easy to forget I still have my race shoes on latter in the day..

I have the original s/lab pulsar as well and the lace garage is the main place of wear and tear for me, after 150 miles. There are frayed or loose threads from opening the garage to stuff the laces in / take them out.
@RoadTrailRun Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Glad they worked out. Did you get the SG or regular? SG even better for me. As far as garage and pulling on no change really a bear but interestingly I ran them and they got a bit wet with snow, had to take them off and then put them back on shortly after and they went on much easier than "cold".

@@RoadTrailRun mine are the regular ,so not much for lugs..but just enough to keep my feet from sliding sidewise in loose dirt and not enough to bother on pavement..nearly perfect shoe for racing on variety of terrain..the tread doesn't last very long but I will get another pair for this season and use the old as a 5k road racing shoe..crazy light wt and decent cushioning and very stable..keep up the great reviews..

@@brokenfreddy7676 while not the ideal 5K shoe as the regular is the SG is a better trail shoe all around and more cushioned due to the extra rubber and I think also more stable especially at the heel. The extra weight is negligible and you might get longer wear and when worn down a bit transition to the road!

Did the new heel counter in the Pulsar Trail Pro 2 fix some of the heel stability of the former model? V1 ran really well, but had some issues like this and bite from the laces. btw. Do you do a full review of the Kjerag?
@RoadTrailRun Жыл бұрын
I had only limited runs in the v1 but find the heel hold fine here. Lace bite will depend on how tight you need to cinch them for your foot. As far as stability there is no change to the narrow heel platform so while heel counter area is improved it is still best used for more straight ahead non tech fast paces than back on the heels for me.

No full review or Kerag. Don't have them here in Utah but in a few weeks back in NH and hopefully some dirt if not mud will closely compare to Pulsar 2. My sense is I will prefer the broader heel and a bit snappier toe off of Kerag yet more than in v1 although now Pulsar v2's fit is closer up front with its new mesh and thus a bit more room

Any comments on durability of foams ? I’ve heard the first ultra glide foam died prematurely?

What would you recommend for a day to day training/longer run shoe? I've got the pulsar trail pro 2 but need to choose between sense ride 5 and ultra glide. Would appreciate your recommendations

Neither Salomon Max Glide TR. Our review here and I concur with Jeff www.roadtrailrun.com/2023/05/salomon-glide-max-tr-salomon-joins-max.html

Just to make sure I heard you right…you would NOT go TTS in the Ride? Runs big?

great video Sam ! I thought the sense ride was announced as a door to trail, but hearing your thoughts it seems like a purely trail shoe, isn't it ?
@RoadTrailRun Жыл бұрын
Sorry I missed. Yes pure trail as they have been since SR3

What shoe would you use for broke arrow skyrace 23k they have a ton of snow on race day .
@RoadTrailRun Жыл бұрын
Saucony Peregrine ST, S/Lab Pulsar SG, S Lab Genesis, VJ Ultra or other VJ, an INOV 8 with deep lugs. Depends on your pace as well

I got the Ultra Glide 2 and love it, very, very much. Fit just right. Hearing that the others are locked in even more.... kinda scary in my book! :) I have the Pulsar Trail non-pro, that one is very much to my liking, too. I am afraid the others are Salomon-typical very narrow, more made for race than comfort. Guess I picked right. QUESTION, or rather a REQUEST: I hope RoadTrailRun gets the GTX version of the Ultra Glide 2. Would really appreciate feedback if it sits tighter than the non-GTX version, or if they use an invisible fit type of GTX rather than an inner sock. In this case I might have to size up 0.5 sizes.
@RoadTrailRun Жыл бұрын
Great! Did you have Ultra Glide 1? At some point we may be able to test GTX I will find out if Invisible Fit. Some Invisible Fit for example Nike Peg Trail GTX are really indistinguishable from non GTX, others less so Peregrine 13 GTX
@Blank-Knight Жыл бұрын
@@RoadTrailRun no, last year I bought the Pulsar Trail and the Pulsar Trail GTX, where I sized up half a size. That worked out nicely. The Pulsar Trail runs hotter than the Ultra Glide 2 and presumably UG1 as well. The GTX Pulsar is even warmer, I would have used it in winter but it has terrible grip on wet snow and ice.

I'm looking for a new long distance hike shoe, Pulsar Trail 2 Pro is what I'm leaning towards. What would your opinion be @roadTrailRun?
@RoadTrailRun Жыл бұрын
Not that one of these. Too stiff and tippy. Ultra Glide 2 or maybe Sense Ride 5 in Salomon. Also for sure look at new Saucony Ultra Ridge GTX www.roadtrailrun.com/2023/01/saucony-ultra-ridge-gtx-multi-tester.html

Hello. Thank you for the review my goodness you’ve got some snow there !! It’s a rare thing here in the uk these days. Ok I’ve got over 200 miles in my ultra glide 1 and thinking of buying V2. I went half size up in the V1 which was perfect for me , should I do the same for the V2? Thanks Ian 🇬🇧
@RoadTrailRun Жыл бұрын
Crazy amounts of snow in the Western US and more comes everyday. I think if you sized up in v1 you should at least try at half size up, Wide foot? As these for sure are a generous volume. I was half size up in my v2 sample and would go true to size in v2. I was true to size in v1 and OK. Hold here is somewhat better.
