Alonso is totally right about needing to be notified of penalties during a race, it really does change your psychology. I was recently doing a league race where I'd pulled out around a 4 second gap to p3 while I was in p2, and I decided that was enough of a gap and I wasn't going to catch p1, so I basically just cruised to the end of the race. If I'd found out I got a 5 second penalty or something after the race I would've been absolutely pissed because I could've easily pushed and gotten that to 5 seconds.

An easy solution to stop all the incorrect serving of time penalties… have a team mechanic or an FIA representative hold the driver in the pitbox AFTER the team is finished working on the car. The rule could easily be that the penalty time begins once the car is back on its wheels and off the jacks. Then it would also really be on the driver if they incorrectly served the penalty because they would have had to start driving off early

Mercedes tried to pull a sneaky, nothing unusual there. I'm glad it backfired this time though. I'm sure they are preparing a protest on the AM and RB as we speak for a *safety* related issue they have noticed that they didnt think of first.
@theglitch312 Жыл бұрын
Almost everything Mercedes tried the past few years has backfired on them. A few examples from the top of my head: 2020, their tires popped in Silverstone (among others) causing Pirelli to issue the 2021 floor-cut rule change for safety reasons. That change allowed RB and Max to win the WDC. 2021, their "anti-RB" pitstop TD basically didn't change anything. RB is still one of the fastest and most consistent pitstop teams by a similar margin after the TD. 2022, their innovative car design is as innovative as it was slow. 2022, the FIA 'flexi-floor' TD, heavily backed by Mercedes, massively hurt Ferrari the most and basically gift-wrapped the title to RB. 2023, their "improved" innovative car design is still slow. 2023, their suggestion to penalize Alonso for a podium place gets reversed. In conclusion, Mercedes protests will work out in your favour in the end.

@@theglitch312 aye, dont forget the "safety" of the thin tread tires that only Ferrari were fast on and merc were blistering, the "safety" of RBs flexi wing, the "safety" of the porpoising only they were experiencing, the "safety" of Ferrari burning oil in their intercooler (while merc were doing the same but more ingeniously hidden) ... they are some big time whiners.

@@josiahboatengmyrie DAS should have been banned because while adjusting the toe it also affected ride height, and I'm sure there was an aero effect to the wheels turning (active suspension and aero) and the FIA soft banning it (that season only) proved that there was something to it. Party mode was banned, because merc used it to burn engine oil for extra HP. When the oil burn limit was introduced by the FIA, not red bull, you could burn no more than 1 (?) Litre per 100km (merc was using +/- 7 litres per race), but merc were hosing it in there during qualy, so the FIA to stop them, said you could only use 1 engine mode for the whole weekend, which effectively forced them to stop burning the oil during qualy because they couldnt burn that much oil legally during the race. The 2021 "regs" I'm assuming means the floor cutout, and that was pirelli and the FIA because the ground effect cars and 18 inch tires were supposed to come out that year, but covid, and the 13 inch tires couldnt handle the +1 second performance development from the year before, so it was intended to reduce overall downforce, but it turns out it had a negligible effect to the RB high rake, which ironically EVERYONE including merc and rb said it would hurt the high rake cars the most.

Checo probably made a mistake in the first sector in the final lap. He knew Max would go for fast lap. Because Max is Max and will go for everything everywhere all the time. And if he didn't know - then it is totally his fault after what happened last year.

This season is so boring that people are seriously trying to manifest a title fight. Checo was great, but remember he only MATCHED max in the final stint, it’s not like he drove away from him. On a good day when he starts in front he can match him, but to act like this will be a regular occurrence is optimistic, let alone enough to challenge for the title.

I really wonder if the Red Bull is a legal car for these reasons: -That thing GOES when the DRS is activated. Like way too fast, it's unreal. -Everyone's talking about how, despite their speed, they may still be holding back. -Max made no real effort to get by everyone in Jeddah despite starting P15. He knows the car's fast, but it being only the second race, you don't know for sure, so you'd want to go on an aggressive strategy and get as far to the front as early as possible, generally. But he didn't. He started on the same tyre as everyone else and made no hurry to pass anyone in the first stint of the race. It's like he knew he'd be at the front eventually...

The amount of hate Max got after the race was absolutely ridiculous! He did absolutely nothing wrong yet people hated him for going for the fastest lap. Like what?? He's not supposed to race for every point he can get?? He's just supposed to sit back and hand his Championship lead to Perez? Perez also lied about the FL situation btw. He said the team told him to manage his pace and pretty much promised him the FL. When actually the team told him on lap 44 that he was 'free to push' and so was Max. Did he really think Max was not going for that point? Horner even confirmed that Perez tried for the FL too, but bottled it in S1. The fact that Perez tried to make it look like the team screwed him and Max is the bad guy who stole the point from him made me lose a lot of respect for him.

Totally agree. I heard the msg too that he was free to push. And then that comment of him? That was a real low blow of Checo. On the other hand ... his only and prob last chance to be ahead of Max in the standings. Not that long ago the discussion was still open if he was going to stay. A little gratitude to the team that saved him from F1 oblivion would be in place i think. Maybe he still thinks he has a chance being a WC and beating Max ...
@aaronkennedy8506 Жыл бұрын
Maybe if he didnt visibly pout about not winning and he wouldnt catch so much flak. Perez beat him on merit and he can't stand it. Max skipped team meetings that day, and is expecting to walk away with every race. He also ignores team orders. When asking to maintain pace he ignores trying to catch perez. So of course he gets upset when the team informs perez of what max is doing so he can match it. Dude is sore loser through and through just like his father.
@bogdanconstantin5911 Жыл бұрын
iirc Perez pushed last lap but had a bad sector 1 so he gave up.
@artemisd.9450 Жыл бұрын
@@aaronkennedy8506 there is absolutely nothing wrong in being disappointed in your performance when you're a high level athlete. P2 is good for some drivers, but he wants P1, and isn't he right? He knows he can have it every time and when he doesn't, he doesn't like it. Stop pretending like F1 is a team sport. It's all about the driver. The rivalry between drivers is the same in every team, only some drivers hide it better than him. He's not sulking like a baby, he's gutted like the champion he is, who has high ambitions, and that is absolutely fine!! He is a racer and wants to win, big deal! At least he's not pretending to be a good loser like some 🙄 he doesn't hide his thoughts to look like a nice person, that's a very Dutch attitude, being bluntly honest and no nonsense. I much rather like his attitude and thirst for wins than the unsufferable false humble attitude of others.

Yes, Checo sounded a little paranoid at one point, but contrary to what Tommy was saying, it was he who asked his engineer "Why are we still pushing?". Listen to the whole conversation between them and it's clear that he himself wanted to slow down. Also, just like Max, Checo also went for the FL in the last lap, only he made a mistake and then gave up. It's therefore very odd that in the press conference, he insinuated that he hadn't been informed properly. Seems Sergio was a little less than honest there, to put it mildly... Probably hoped the British press would jump on it and print a few new stories about RBR favouring Max and screwing Checo. He really likes to play the victim, imo.
