Michelle Kwan nor Tara Lipinski nor Sarah Hughes were novices and were doing the jumps? Were they? She does, she will be a great champion!

All these powerhouses are 10 to 11years of age in Canada and in the U.S.A. She is the youngest canadian skater who at 9 was a novice. In Russia they range from 5 years of age to 8, so they are getting much younger. I am seeing kids doing triples in Russia when they are 6 on the floor and when they are 7 they do them on the ice. Maybe we will see in the near future russian kids doing all their doubles when they are 5,doing triples when they are 6 and girls from Canada do triples when they are 7 and 8 like in Russia now.

Well, it’s not only about it getting these jumps early. If Russians do, it’s mostly because they start their competitive career much earlier and more intensely than anywhere else. But it’s cool to see that other federations start to be conscious about how benefiting for skaters to start competing early. When they arrive in junior they already have the experience of a veteran. It’s the only way to catch up with Russians according to me. I often read than a consistent program with triples is better than an inconsistent program with quadruples. But right now, I don’t see any skater outside of Russia and Japan having a consistent program even with just triples. Training those triples early can only be a good thing for this girl. This will allow her to have it easier later.

Excellent skater. Did she learn her triples when she was 8 or 9? The USA girls are not novices at 9 or 10 yrs, except Skylar Lawtowa Pegueiro. She is more advanced than them. There has to be more 9 and 10 year olds to be novices and be real spinners, good jumpers and super flexible to be more competitive! 🙂
