Two scores made me angry with the judges: - 8.0 for Ryan Decenzo's frontside flip - 8.0 for Braden Hoban's 50-50 to back tail Judges have really been disliking the gap tricks for the past several years (as opposed to early SLS), even though they are riskier, more spectacular, often are harder on your body, and the crowd reacts to them with much more enthusiasm. They have practically turned the "best trick" section into "best handrail trick" section. Skaters don't see the point in throwing themselves off drops for low scores. As for Hoban's 50-50 of the full rail, the plain 50-50 should've been woth an 8. Adding a back tail (of front blunt) should be at least a 9. No other skater have been able to grind the full rail, and what is the reward for the one who did? An average score. Why build this obstacle in the first place if you're not gonna score high for it?
@haroldcampos9661 Жыл бұрын
I can be harshly indifferential at times...but Felipe Nuñes can hang with the pros for sure. He's not just a skater with a disability, he's actually a badass skater. Some days I struggle to do smaller stair sets, and even in life with mundane things. Some days I stresslax the whole day instead. It's not always being proud of what you got (including physicality), but what you can dream up to do with it. When he gets old, he won't regret not having had the drive to do more. I don't always get inspired by disabled people's messages (my music teacher used to show me people playing instruments with their feet whenever I messed up my hand), but this man shatters all my expectations. Respect. (And he has good style too; as it's enjoyable to watch his skating!) I was also thinking at one point he reminds me of the real life tech deck dude and how cool that is, and he went on his run and all the led's said tech deck; that was perfectly timed, and actually kinda rad. For me it was like a sign from the universe that I'm not the only one thinking that.
@mattgreen320511 ай бұрын
But he shouldn’t be eligible to skate in competition every1 else has to catch with feet he gets to grab ahold of board that’s totally different. When you grab ahold with hand board can’t fall away he literally holding it in place.
@haroldcampos966111 ай бұрын
Really, man? You gotta be trolling me. But he does slam like a normal person it's just, he's just such a good competitor that he never slams at a contest. Seen a few bails after landing weird, if anything. One of his first tricks, he went on the handrail and did a bluntslide!... lol what more do you want? For him to wear shoes on his hands? That's not happening. He's an adaptively abled skater. He uses his hands because he can't make the board come up with him otherwise. (Also he still pops the tail down for most tricks. His arm is probably a miracle of science. And he does good lines.) He's competing because he wants to. He's in his prime and has good athleticism. He can seemingly kickflip easier than most, yes; but who cares? It's the only way he can do it, so it's allowed. None of the guys complains; trust me, you don't wanna be that guy... I like seeing him up there, he worked hard af. He's deserving of being allowed to compete. Plus, he's from Brazil, so this contest was local-ish for him. Saying no is the worst. Hell yeah dude, let's just watch the man compete.@@mattgreen3205

Something to think about If any other skater sat on board and used his hand to lift/ jump onto rails/ flip his board would it be allowed? Don’t think so. So why is there exception for this one dude. Why don’t we just let Nyjah skate in women’s comp as well. Sorry dude no legs not eligible for competition. Not saying he can’t make vid parts as he awesome to watch but competitive skating no. Yes I do feel sorry for the guy but doesn’t mean rules don’t apply to him and he doesn’t deserve special treatment because he disabled. Like when he catches a trick he actually grabs and hold on to board. He doesn’t pop tricks he lifts board. That’s a total different sport. It’s more like snowboarding then skating
@haroldcampos966111 ай бұрын
Also, skateboarding is already a very inclusive sport. You don’t have to win the genetic lottery just to have a chance at being competitive… that’s such a beautiful thing. Because there’s no way I would have come out 7 feet tall lol. There’s guys like nyjah, who were made in a lab to win competitions. And there’s guys who just can’t stop skating and really don’t care about any olympics or anything like that. But noone goes out of their way to argue about those semantics. If anything, they probably do go out of their way to sponsor friends and not just some guy off the street with a jerk attitude because he can laser flip. It just doesn’t work that way… Same way noone from outside can tell sls what to do. If rob dyrdek wants felipe nuñez to compete, you can’t take him off. You have to make your own competition. Idk who would want to go, when the premise is blackballing a disabled guy. I can appreciate your effort to debate a contrarian or unpopular opinion, I have written essays for school using this method. But in this case, just nope.
@mattgreen320511 ай бұрын
Nothing to do with SLS it about competing at a fair level where everyone has same set of rules. It’s no discrimination no other sport would let him compete at pro level. He using hand to lift and catch board not feet. He grabbing board it can’t fall away like it can from feet if not caught properly. That’s cheating

The Japanese have spent centuries engaged in life or death single combat.. for most of that time with samurai swords.... that's basically a sped up evolutionary process.. and it breeds insane reflexes, and also composure under pressure.. like if you wanted to choose a race to excell at skateboarding, those are the traits you would choose. also, skateboarding suits a slight frame, which the Japanese typically have..
