My district orders all of our new buses with 6 "all position" tires (steers) because it's cheaper from the manufacturer.. once we get them, they used to swap the rears out for actual drive tires since they can use re-treads.. but for our last 2 batches of new buses they have left the steers on all the way around so they are able to rotate the tires and prolong the life of them.. hasn't affected the handling or ride at all. Hell, the steers have more tread and get through the snow and mush better than the drive tires do lol.

Two big beautiful buses. I love these flat faces as i call them. They are far roomier and more "coach like" then traditional long nose school buses in my humble opinion.

Funny story, it's a late 2009. I thought it was a 2010 all of these years but the VIN says it's a 2009. Never too late to learn something new!

I ride on a school bus titled 696 some similar ones are 697 and 698. But they are older than 696. When I was in preschool I ridden on bus 698.

This thing needs the big motor to run the air conditioning lol also a longer bus. I know In EC Ohio most all new Thomas busses have an ISB cummins because they’re mostly safe-t liners. I am alumni from a small high school that only graduates 50 per class we never had any busses with a/c. I work on Gillig low floor transit busses and they’re built much heavier than a school bus but for a different application and they need to last 12 years and 500k+ miles Neat to see the similarities of the two though.

Kanawha and Mercer counties are doing a pilot program of the Greenpower BEAST bus each, I'm starting to wonder if your or other counties are getting the same test program for those.

That really had a advantage on Blue Bird since they have a Flat nose electric bus that Thomas and IC don't have. Plus Blue Bird is very popular in Oregon with a lot of district using the T3 series and previously the A3 and D3.

Ever notice that the switches are often in different order? Is the plug in the back for a block heater? Not many changes over the years. No under storage?

How long have HDXs had two pane doors? Never noticed it before, these ones are the first I've ever seen. Is that standard now?
@RafaRadityo7 Жыл бұрын
We just got delivered our 2023 HDXs and they still have the regular doors. It's probably Cabell county who changed it up a bit. It's a pretty common thing for counties to change spec

How cone you have both transit and conventional style buses? Does your county have a preference?

I didn’t know they still made cabover busses
@willc5512 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately! Last time I rode on one was 1993 in 3rd grade! We were hood kids so they usually sent awful busses even for field trips. This time it was the blue bird thingy. cab over. A Kid leaves something on the bus so another kid volunteers to retrieve it. Other kid says "whys he running to the back of the bus!" Small argument ensues as to where the back of the bus IS. I settle it with "does it have headlights?" Then its the front!🤣😂

@@Project681 My district has some Thomas C2s (Cummins and Detroits) but no HDXs. Along with that, they're BBs (REs and Conventionals; the latter with a mix of Diesel and Gas buses) and IC CEs. I heard about electric buses coming my way soon. Is there any news on your end about electrifying your fleet?
