@@MomLikely I have 4, my oldest is now 18. Trust me her room has seen those days. Now with my youngest I've got a decent system down. Hamper in bathroom, and bedroom anywhere clothes come off put hamper. No eating in room helps if they need to be comfy snacking, living room is better.... Then teaching evening reset before dinner. Have them Pick up toys. Clothes in hamper. Trash in trash. Those simple things help so much. She's got a "creative spirit" lol just like my oldest. They're brain is always on 1000 go go go.

Stumbled across this video. It takes guts to post a video like this. I know with our family, our eldest just turned 9 and she is really artistic and has hoarding tendencies. My spouse purges her room regularly and I deep clean it, as I suck at purging. Good luck to managing the home better in 2023.
@nnylasoR Жыл бұрын
Hi …. I just want to say I am 42 and battling lifelong hoarding disorder - and although I do not know you, your husband, nor your sweet girl, I have much to say on this matter. I can say with certainty that my “tendencies” were brought on / fueled / exacerbated by not only touchy family dynamics, but due to my belongings, my precious things, my comforts constantly disappearing. I was not the one deciding to part with them - they were just, GONE. 🥺 That sort of thing **is** traumatic, and causes some of us to grasp tighter to anything we can. I pray that you all have loving, empathetic relationships with eachother, and I hope that you involve your daughter in these ‘purges.’ Yes, she is your child and that is your home - but it is her home too and she is a human being. She not only has emotions and reasons behind her “tendencies,” she needs your guidance and the decision-making practice… as well as practice bettering her space and sense of accomplishment and *worth.* ♥️♥️♥️
@MomLikely Жыл бұрын
I agree! There are a few things she asked for in her room and come the spring if she keep showing she is Lerner and participating in the family chores dynamic as reward I’m going to find her the items and hopefully that will encourage her to love the space and keep it nice more on her own too.I’m sorry these things have happened with you ❤️ maybe category decluttering could help you discard unused items.

Yes, yes, yes!! I had to do this with my 8 yr old daughter. We would clean her room together and the next day.... it was a complete disaster. I repeatedly told her if its on the floor, its going in the trash. I would always try to save a few toys for her but I also thought, if she doesn't care about it then why should I. So in the trash it went, or donated if we could. I felt bad for doing this but felt so relieved after it was done. Her room is alot more manageable for her and I now. Glad we did it!
@darbirhian Жыл бұрын
@@TheW3avers I can understand this. I'm getting to this point with my daughter. It's the mess on the floor that gets me, as it's like the entire space is game for everything and any little thing. I find a bit of clutter or mess on her furniture is far easier to manage as the space is far smaller. Her room is better now than it was a few years ago, and every so often she is motivated to tidy up and organize her things. She doesn't really notice when her dad purges; she hoards a lot of junk, quite frankly. It's so freeing to be rid of it!

It is mentally draiing to have to keep up with things like that and now your kiddo will have exactly what she plays with and nothing more. Less things for her and you to take care of. I totally see where you are coming from and I've watched you clean her room time and time again! I grew up with a Mom that was OCD about our things. We literally kept tallies on toys- we had to count pieces while putting things away. No game/toy ever lost a piece. Some of my toys stayed in the box forever. The crazy thing is, our house was filled to the brim with clutter and "collectibles", yet it was methodical. I'm now somewhere in the middle when it comes to my own kids. I let them play, be imaginative, and actually use their toys but they have to treat their things with respect. If a piece goes missing, no big deal I will eventually find it and put it back. But I'm huge on treating your things with respect. But kids are kids and I'm always loosing my marbles too LOL. Sending hugs, you're doing awesome 🤗

AMEN AMEN, I totally totally understand. My daughter, granddaughter, husband and myself all live together. I am now 65 yrs old retiree. When my granddaughter was 4yrs old, every Friday, she and I would clean up her room and she loved it. I taught her the three pile system, 1st pile was "trash", the 2nd pile was the "I don't know pile", and the 3rd pile was "keep & put it where it belongs" & and we would sing the song "clean up, clean up". I told her when she gets older she's going to do it by herself. This worked so well until she turned 9yrs old. The room went to the opposite side of the world. So I get it, I snapped. Just throw everything out. I'm praying for you, I'm praying for your daughter, your family. Remember to breathe, take care of yourself, replenish your strength. I'm proud of you! First time watching for me. My daughter used to do garbage bag cleaning. She told kids to pick up only the things they wanted to keep and everything else went in garbage. Keep going mom you're great to have goals for your kid's development.

Thank you for always sharing with us! This is me rite now. I always find myself buying more storage things in hopes that if I teach them where everything goes it’ll help. It doesn’t it’s more Chaos more spaces to fill with unnecessary things

You go girl! Anyone who says it's wasteful throwing stuff out, don't have kids!!! I felt lighter watching you throw everything away! I cannot wait until my 11 month old is older so that I can finally get rid of all the baby toys!!! Because we all know they don't even play with them anyways! What do they play with? Boxes and remote controls!

WOW! That was bad! First time viewer here. Thank you for being vulnerable. People may judge, but you are helping others who feel they are alone in their mess. 2 weeks ago, I reset my 8 years old daughter's bedroom, too, and we donated a lot. My goal was to get it manageable for her. Good luck with your goal. I pray you get yourself and your family where you want to be mentally and physically.

Hello! I'm new here (suggested by Midwest cleaning magic) but ooooh momma did I feel this video. I just spent a full day with my college student overhauling their room at home. It's not that I haven't taught my children how tidy, clean, take care of things. But this kid had gotten overwhelmed, a little buried, and needed the grace to start fresh! Everything is a season.

I honestly think it's great you did this. Sometimes they need it. I love how you have a normal home and you show it and it makes me watch your channel. Your real and I Thank you for that. I'm a mom of 3 boys 2 of them share the whole upstairs and it gets so trashed. But you did what more parents should do. These kids these days have no discipline! Great Job and love your channel!

this made me so happy, I’m 15, currently cleaning my room and getting rid of basically everything and redecorating and this video made me feel just pure joy, my room had no where to walk, the rubbish and childhood toys and clothes piled up at least 1 metre high and you could not see the floor, I threw out everything (apart from clothes and very few toys to keep) and what I didn’t throw out I’m in the process of selling or donating, my room is bare, I’m selling all the furniture, bed, draws, and desks and everything, I’m repainting the room and starting basically fresh. this video made me so happy that this girl is gonna have a clean room and it makes me so happy, hope everything goes well for you, you’re doing incredible

I'm right there with you momma. I've started doing the exact same thing in my home. I need my sanity back and good relationship with my children. The constant mess and all the stuff is so mentally exhausting for me. The visual clutter resorts to clutter in my head. We don't need it all we just need to love and value what we do.

I like that you threw it all out. It’s the best way to make a fresh start.

I've been there and do not judge you. It gets to the point where you have to remove the small stuff they don't care about tossing everywhere. We love our babies but will not tolerate the messes anymore 👏👏👏

My kids have a chore list to do after school everyday and cleaning their room is one of those. So 5 days a week they clean their room. I got tired of doing this all the time too! I also through a bunch of stuff out and my house never gets destroyed anymore. It's SO FREEING. I know exactly how you feel. Been there and I can tell you after making it out to the otherside you will never regret getting rid of stuff!

Yes sweet imagine how she feels overwhelmed too. You should be proud of yourself for tackling something and realizing it's out of her capabilities as well.

Your daughter is incredibly lucky to have such an understanding mom. I have diagnosed ocd that I struggle with, my children live in an extremely minimalist house and I worry that they miss out on toys or learning to handle their spaces. But watching and listening to you takes some of the guilt away. They don’t need/ can’t handle having all the things; they need a curated space to focus on what matters most to them. 🎉Happy New Year’s

YOU GO, GIRL!!!!! What a great Mom job you did! I would have done exactly what you did…Throw. Stuff. Out. Start over..simple daily checks for cleanliness upkeep is so much easier both mentally and physically…just a minute or two at a time instead of the overwhelming, depressing out of control feelings. You did an absolutely amazing job to make her space comfy, organized, clean, cozy, and so much better! BRAVO!

I love this for you!! I had to do the same months back with my son, BEST thing ever!! He still struggles with his laundry but now I sit in his room and talk to him while it gets done on Saturday’s. Time together and chores done!

Yes and getting uninvolved as a family helps a lot. We have chosen mondays to do a family cleaning time.

Wow!!! Great job and it's awesome that you have an awareness of ways where you haven't taught your children well. It's painful to admit and we think were alone but were not! Some of us aren't good at managing our stuff no matter what our age. Less really is simpler.

I’ve been there with my daughter too. It was exhausting. Once she turned 15 she finally started to care more about “her space”. She’s 21 now and she’s the neatest person in the house. You’re doing great.

I think it too easy to criticize when a person has not stood in the proverbial shoes, with the problems, hurts, resource status and daily pressures... You are doing what you can when you can and as you can. Sharing this journey with others should not mean you receive poor support. Good job- lots of effort is demonstrated and willingness to tackle changes. This can be so very hard, I know from experience, and I applaud your attitude! Keep going! Many people appreciate your story.💫❤

Thank you! ❤️ I agree. Many have a hard time understanding other peoples shoes. We don’t have to always experience it but we can be understanding.

This is the first video of yours I’ve ever seen and as a mom of five I can so relate. I am so proud of you for removing all that garbage. It was clearly not stuff she needed. I truly do not see this as a punishment but rather as a gift. Like you said she could not manage it. You yourself were so overwhelmed. As seen in brief pauses on the video along with what you said. Imagine being little dealing with that. Aside from not giving back the computer I feel like she must have felt relief when she saw she had her peaceful space back. I hope it’s helped all of you keep her room a peaceful retreat. And I’m so glad you flipped the bed for her too. Good idea mom.
