❤😊 excellent professional review. I have been using the Roomba robots since they first came out and the competition has moved ahead of them by quite a margin. To solve the issue of damaging baseboards I have placed a soft White velcro strip on the bumper in front of the robot vacuum. It irritates me that my roombas keep on getting stuck in places they shouldn't and frequently stop working above the stairs. I have concluded that I will not purchase Roombas again. I have gone through four models over the past 15 plus years., and I'm going to watch your video several times before I make my next purchase. 😊 Thank you for sharing your tests with all of us out here . I truly appreciate you're clear solid review.❤

I would rly recommend the j7 (not combo) if you aren’t looking for mopping! I ended up putting a piece of thick, clear tape on the front (the type meant for cars, like a 0.26 inch thick), and it doesn’t do any damage. Plus, the navigation is super smart and it hasn’t gotten stuck for me after a year of use!

@@georgebalan6201 If you think Roomba navigation is smart your mind will be absolutely blown by a high end LIDAR robot like the S7MaxV or L10s, they know exactly where they are in the house down to the centimeter.

I have zero carpet, no pets, and no long haired people. The Narwal Freo has been an absolute dream in my home. My only real complaint is that the mapping feature is a "one shot" approach. If you don't have every space available when you run the initial mapping task, there is no way to update the map to include a new space without starting over from scratch (it doesn't learn / adjust on the fly). Mopping was my main goal with this robot and it does a beautiful job!
@TheHookUp
@TheHookUp Жыл бұрын
I actually think that might be getting added to the app as we speak. Last week I noticed a prompt that said "new mapping area discovered, add now?" in the app. Clicking "add now" resulted in an error, but I think it's coming. I 100% agree that the Narwal Freo is the best mop on the market.

@@TheHookUp Excellent - that would be a really nice feature to have. I honestly don't mind the lack of integration with other smart home devices, but for the price of these robots - it's not unreasonable to expect that they should have that too.

I came across this review which seemed to be the most objective, complete and clear. I especially liked the summary which based recommendations in relation to the buyer's most important requirements. I just purchased a T10 Omni to replace a J7+ (non mop) and pretty much agree with the info here. I tried a little Bona floor cleaner (recommended for Roomba's) mixed in and it did not like that -- mop cleaning failed (complaining about overflow) and traction became a real issue, so much that it would end up driving in circles -- but I might try a lower mix ratio. The new T20 Omni has the lifting pads now and that is a feature I wish the T10 had because it sorta reduces the purpose of the auto wash if you have multiple hard floors separated by carpet as the robot will not travel across it with mops attached. Real poor showing from the Lefant given their reply, if you're going to charge above combos (and 3x some top-tier mop only robots), you better have the best performance. Ridiculous pricing from them.

Awesome review! I have owned the Roborock S7 Max Ultra for above a year now... But this is how much I love it..I have bought 2 now, because my first one ran over dog poop, which was the first time my dog has pooped in the house ever and he is 10 yrs old. I had just purchased my Roborock S7 Max Ultra and STUPIDLY I didn't feel like i needed to set the poop detection because my dog has never pooped in the house...long story short.. It was a huge mess, I tried to clean the robot and ended up with "cliff sensor error".. I ended up purchasing another one instead of going through the hassle of trying to get it replaced because I knew it was my fault.. Thats how much I love my Roborock! Even though it was very painful! Slight correction: The Roborock vacuums can work with Alexa to do room specific cleaning using the Roborock app and Roborock skill. The correct verbiage for cleaning a specific room is "Alexa, Ask roborock to clean the {room name}".
@Xalies
@Xalies Жыл бұрын
Also for anyone that didn't know you can also add a routine in Alexa to send a custom command so you can make it activate when you say "Alexa, clean the {room name}" but actually sends "Alexa, Ask roborock to clean the {room name}" just to save saying that everytime
@JasonPhipps
@JasonPhipps Жыл бұрын
My Alexa Routines actually call Home Assistant Input Booleans, which execute scripts when they're activated, which directly feed data to the vacuum. That way, Roborock can vacuum (only vacuum, no mop) my house (or just certain rooms) for example, only if it's Sunday, after 5PM, and no one is home, automatically. Or, on a nightly basis, Roborock can vacuum only rooms that have had people in them more than 2 hours that day, leaving the other lesser-used rooms for the twice-weekly "vacuum everything" command. Alexa is VERY limited, and full of work-arounds to get what you actually want to do, done.

As a "technology guy" do you ever plan on addressing any of the security concerns? Roborock has been criticized for its data collection practices, which some users have found to be invasive. In 2020, Xiaomi, a Chinese electronics company, acquired a minority stake in Roborock. Xiaomi has been accused of ties to the Chinese government, which has raised concerns about the security of Roborock products.

for the dreamtech L10s ultra low tank capacity issue. I actually just bought a two aquarium pumps with water level sensor for about 50 bucks. Then drill a hole in each of the fresh water tank and waste water tank. Then hook up the pumps to a sink nearby. Never need to empty nor refill the water tank again even if you mop every two hours. Technically Dream tech L20 has a water line connection addon that can accomplish the same thing of filling fresh water tank and empty dirty water tank. But L20 500-600 dollars more expensive than L10s. So if you don't mind a little bit of DIY, you can replicate a lot of feature of L20 onto L10s for about 1/10 to 1/5 of the difference in cost. You can reduce the cost further by scavenging components from old electronics. You could replicate all the added features of L20 for 0 dollars but does take a lot of additional labour hour in research/scavenging/DIY, whether that's worth your time is debatable. Since you spent these spent time making extra dollars and just buy L20s instead.

I have the following on my Amazon wish list, and as of today the prices are; Ecovacs T20 Omni - $989 iRobot J9+ Combo - $1399 DreameBot L20 Ultra - $1499 Roborock S8 Pro Ultra - $1599 That's a huge price difference, do the prices reflect/justify the differences in performance and features? I'm finally ready to pull the trigger and buy one but decided between these is very hard. We have a home that is mostly tile and hardwood with throw rugs. We want the best, is that the Roborock? I'd love to see these four go side-by-side.

Great review. I was going to go with the new Roborock 8 figuring it would be a better performer than the 7, but I think it'll be the Dreametech instead. I was disappointed in the 8's performance across the board vs the 7's but with the Dreametech, it seems to hit the sweet spot for robotic cleaning and it's priced much better than the Roborocks. If the Roborock were better, I'd gladly pay the premium, but with that not being the case, it's Dreametech for the win.

I recently got the Shark AI ultra 2 in 1. returned it in about a week. poor mopping on tile, poor suction. I got the dreame L10S ultra. its running now. the app experience varies depending on which app used. The dreame home app is better and more supported, but the MiHome app is required for Home Assistant integration. The MiHome app currently has a bug where the mop cleaning frequency will not save user selection. stuck on 'clean after each zone' which is too often! I had to do some trickery on the map to connect separate rooms so they show as 1 zone, or my main floor is just 1 zone. overall satisfied, but only thanks to home assistant and using my brain to work around some of the app limitations.

Thanks. Thoughtful, careful review, as always. I have both the Roborock S7 Max V Ultra (what's with these long names) and the Ecovacs S1 Omni and the Roborock requires far less babysitting. The Ecovacs seems to seek out things to get hung up on. It doesn't see things that appear obvious and has no clue when it's ramming into something and just keeps on ramming until it eventually stops. It is also very pushy with the furniture and pushes light furniture around the room. But, it does do a pretty good job with mopping and leaves fewer streaks than the Roborock. Still, I would not recommend it. Roborock has far superior navigation and does not need to have mops removed to vacuum carpeting. The Ecovacs navigated so poorly that I returned the first one. The replacement was perhaps a little better, but still cannot compare to the Roborock S7 Max.

Glad to see the Roomba did well... when it comes to vacuuming. The J7 I got is a pure vacuum so I feel good about this test after all. Picked up hard floors well (which 99% of my use), and auto-emptying was good for smaller dust stuff (which, again, is 99% of my usage). But clearly if I need a mopping robot, and I ho0nestly don't think I do since I rarely track in dirt having no kids - well, clearly would have to go for another brand because this Combo variant looks like absolute dogwater. The molding mop attachment was disgusting.

I’m glad I came across this review - the Vacuum Wars channel was a lot more favourable about the J7+ combo! I was just listening to a podcast where someone whose voice I trust was raving about his J7+ Combo, but it seems like the lack of mop cleaning in the base station is a real drawback. However, lower water flow and not saturating floors is a feature not a bug for me! I’ve got annoyingly fragile wood laminate floors that do NOT like getting wet. With the exception of a couple of rugs, all my floors are hard (mostly this laminate, and then properly waterproof tiles in the bathroom 😅). I’ve got cats - one of whom drops food everywhere around the bowl when she eats, and the other loves to turn his kibble into a game of football and will chase them all over on a daily basis (he’s also got me well trained in throwing them for him to leap and catch, so I’m actively creating the problem too 😂), and I really need to be mopping the floors WAAAY more than I currently am. Currently I’ve got an ecloth microfibre mop, that I saturate and fully wring out, then spray a really little bit of floor cleaner as I go (which is good for overall dampness levels and not wrecking the floor)… but part of the reason why I don’t already mop more is during each mopping session you have to frequently detach the mop pad, rinse it off, remove any icky bits, then reload, then deal with having to wash the mop pads afterwards as well. I bought a bunch of extras to make it less annoying, but I don’t run a microfibre cloth laundry load often, so it still gets gross and ends up needing more manual cleaning. It sounds like the J+ Combo isn’t going to solve that problem for me super well! One thing I really do need is object detection and avoidance, mostly because my cats leave random toys everywhere (plus I don’t want it trying to eat my cats, who I already think might try and move out entirely if I get a robo vac at all 😂), so even though the Dreametech was looking great through this review, it’s a hard no for that reason for me… it seems like a no brainer to have both a camera for that purpose, AND a LiDAR sensor for mapping in general… come on, iRobot, have both!

Every Review I have seen is for the S8 line is on the Pro which has auto lifting brush rollers something that is omitted on the S8 Plus and base model. I bought the Roborock Q Revo during the Black Friday sale last year. I was so excited to use my new robot vac, but it's very disappointing as it sucked up a piece of tissue twice, and stop working until I remove the tissue. I contacted Roborock customer service and provided a test video to show that the robot vac sucking up the tissue. I want to keep the vacuum as the price was good, but I want to exchange a new one just in case the one I got is a "lemon", but Roborock wants me to return it. So I'm looking for a new robot vac again.

Hi! Firstly what an amazing review thanks. I will use one of your amazon links to purchase. What would you recommend for me: I have Roomba i7 hoover, very happy with it, im just looking for a robot mop now. No pets. All tiles/wooden floors (no carpet). Need to have app scheduling (echo a plus). AI to avoid stuff. Smells nice. Easily cleans. Tank empty - no shorter than 1week.

Excellent review, was waiting for your input for a while before making a choice! I see you decided to only partially mention attributes of the "privacy" section this time compared to the previous excellent 2022 summary. One question with regards to privacy though, mainly comparing the S8 and the Dreame L10. To my best understanding the S8 does not have a microphone nor a front facing camera so although an internet connection is needed it's ability to collect data other than room setup is extremely limited whereas the L10 does have a microphone and a front facing camera and works via cloud meaning it is able to collect much more data. I agree that the J7 probably excels with working offline but due to its inability to properly mop I don't see it being a true contender to these two. Also Valetudo isn't really an option for the L10 and I am unaware of it's ability to communicate with the S8 (although the S8 doesn't have a front facing camera). Would you agree then that when considering privacy combined with performance the S8 probably beats the other robots? How did you settle your privacy concerns when choosing the L10 as your daily driver as I do remember you mentioning having a soft spot for privacy concerns. Well Done!
@TheHookUp
@TheHookUp Жыл бұрын
Your analysis is spot on. Roomba is the way to go if you want privacy and is the only one that maintains functionality when blocked from the internet, but kind of sucks as far as performance. The S8's lack of a front facing camera and microphone definitely makes it a more privacy focused, but it still requires cloud access. For me, the performance of the L10s was enough for me to overlook the potential camera privacy issue, particularly since it is my downstairs vacuum and only runs after 1am. I think the Dreametech W10 (amzn.to/42o1ZBw) is the most advanced mopping robot that is compatible with Valetudo, but the lack of an auto empty dustbin is a dealbreaker for me. I also think it's a bit overpriced at $899 considering how much better the L10s is for $999.

Hi, great reviews as always! Smart home integration is key, and I think all manufacturers can do better. I really wish mine would; report which room they are in, when did the last clean certain rooms, how is the water level in the tanks, just give me more data! I also do a similar schedule like you, but use NodeRed to let them be smarter so they run when we are away etc. I´m also using the X1 Omni and I got significantly better mopping performance with aftermarket thicker pads and I lay 1 credit card which I coped up so I can put one in the "docking" part of the spinner which holds the mop. This all forces the mops down more, you might run into issues where they might snag, but mopping is much better! I also belive the Ecovacs has shipped new mop holders which goes further down on newer batches of X1s. That might also explain why the T10 did so much better. I run the S7 MaxV and X1 omni and I find that the S7 does not pick up pet fur on carpets, which is a shame since that was the reason to add it. I find that having 2 vacuums is a sweet spot, since one might snag but sacrifices itself so that the next one can go on. Makes the probability of a failed clean 5-10% rather than 20%. At least in our home with 2x toddlers and a big dog.

FANTASTIC review/comparison! Thanks for it. At 19:13 you say that 6 of the models have full Home Assistant integration and you discuss 5 of them - what about the Dreametech L10s? I looked at using Valetudo to use the Dreametech locally via Home Assistant while also preventing it from communicating with the vendor's cloud, but it looks too complex for me. Does the Dreametech L10s have built-in full Home Assistant integration where I don't have to root the vacuum?
@TheHookUp
@TheHookUp Жыл бұрын
Dreametech can be integrated with HA using the mi home integration. However, after testing it out to make sure it works, I went back to using the dreame home app, because it's significantly better than mi home. A bunch of the Dreametech vacuums work with Valetudo, but I don't think the L10s has support yet.

@@TheHookUp Wow - super fast response. Are you referring to Xiaomi's Mi Home? Their integration for their own vacuums to Home Assistant works with Dreametech's vacuums, too? And if so, I'm still surprised that Home Assistant's flexibility (once you configure all the automations and scenes, etc.) wouldn't be better than the Mi app (or even better than Dreametech's own app). By the way, Valetudo currently says that they do support Dreametech's L10s Ultra.

@@mcmikemn Yes, Xiaomi Mi Home. Both Roborock and Dreametech have the option of using Mi Home or their manufacturer apps. As for Valetudo support: NICE!!!! They must have just added it! Now I need to decide if I'm going to mess with something that is already working perfectly (I probably will).

Excellent job as usual Rob. There is one issue that has failed a number of vacuums for me - false cliff sensor errors. If you have a mat/rug with a high contrast color pattern ( e.g. black and white patterns) it falsely tripper the IR cliff sensor into thinking the dark area are a step edge. The Roborock S7 and Dreamtech vacuums have this issue. There are kludgy workarounds that involve 3D printer sensor covers but no real vendor IR sensor zone lockout. Another test for your collection! Any thoughts?

I appreciate the excellent thorough reviews you always do on these. I've been using the Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid...only as a vacuum. I have never used it's mop function despite having hardwood floors in all of our bedrooms and tile in the kitchen and bath areas. I simply don't want to deal with regularly cleaning that mop pad manually, I dislike emptying the dirt bin as it is...but I'm willing to do it. I thought I would eventually be comfortable enough with the vacuuming that I would try out the mop...but so far no. I should have just got the standard version, oh well. As a vacuum, it has worked well. One glaring flaw is it just goes offline regularly and despite the presence of strong wifi, doesn't rejoin it. So I end up forgetting about it until weeks later when I realize it hasn't cleaned in a while. So yeah, I'm looking for a replacement. Another aspect I have to consider is how my father will react to it. He has dementia and while we've worked out his meds so he's no longer hostile with me, he doesn't usually react well to the robovac running around. So I schedule around where he is during the day.
@TheHookUp

I've never been impressed with the Eufy robovacs. Definitely too expensive for the technology that they offer. The dreametech app is one of the best I've seen as far as setting up custom schedules. I have also been very satisfied with my Dreametech D10+ ($399): amzn.to/42r8Ie4 that I have upstairs. My only gripe is that it has the old style roller with the bristles, so long hair tangles are an issue (the shot of the hair tangled roller in this video is my upstairs D10+).

@@TheHookUp yeah I got it around the same time I was getting all things Eufy after I found out Anker owned the brand (a brand I have used for 10+ years). S8 has customisable vacuuming pressures. You probably must have vacuumed with the default setting which is the quiet mode. You should have enabled the highest setting for vacuuming and then compared it with s7. Definitely it is much better than s7. Moreover cleaning the underside of s8 and removing all hair is also easy unlike what you said in the video. One needs to just open the protective covering and then remove the rollers just like in the case of s7 after that removing hair is a breeze

Every robotic vacuum that I've tested in the last 5 years has customizable vacuuming pressure. All the the tests were done on the highest permanent setting available, which in the case of the S8 is "Max". When you say it's "definitely much better than the S7" is that because you've done specific controlled tests with both units side by side with multiple debris types and multiple flooring types?

What if you don't care about mopping and auto-emptying the dust bin? I am thinking about replacing the Ecovacs Deebot 900 I bought three years ago based on your review. We have moved to a larger home and I want a vacuum that maps and has multiple options to schedule different rooms or areas on different days. It's just the two of us and the cleaning load is fairly light; I don't mind emptying the dustbin every so often. BTW the Deebot 900 has worked well for us in our old house, but it can't complete a full cleaning on a single charge in the current home. There is no option for different areas on different days. We have a mix of carpet and wood floors. Also, I don't want a huge tower for the dock, just a small charger. Thanks for your great reviews!

Deebot 900 was a great little robot. I think the Dreametech L10 pro might be a good replacement at $250: amzn.to/3Ca8zRr The dreametech app is quite a bit better than the Ecovacs app as far as customization of room cleaning and different schedules. The L10 pro doesn't have a big dock, and you can remove the cheap mopping attachment if you aren't going to use it.

Nice video, very informative. The only problem I have with these videos is the type of floor the robots are tested on. I have a hard wood floor with very large v shaped groves in my living room and I don't know the transition, but you can Google a picture for 'estrikken' tiles in my kitchen. Very uneven tiles with wide cement line between them... not the smooth laminated flooring. I have no idea how these robots will perform on my floors. Vacuum and mopping. Another thing I am concerned about is our chairs, also don't know the translation for 'sledepoot' chair'. Will it get stuck or be able to clean under the table at all? Other important things I have 2 cats (1 with long white hair) and 2 young children. And loose cables underneath dressers where the robot is probably able to reach. And I have Google Home and Homey as my smart home system I hope you can give me some advice about which one would be best for my situation of add a video of more challenging floors. I do hope there is a right robot vacuum for me cause it would really help out!
