I love that they had fun doing something they love & even put their instruments down to be part of the dance routine. Congrats on placing 1st in the state. 🎉👏🏆

Logically, it makes sense. But it just doesn't look right somehow. I hate to think that I'm stuck on old school, but I feel like the lack of visuals is due to the matched grip.
@DennisJohnsonDrummer7 ай бұрын
@@MisterAsshole2U I'm old school too, but there are certainly visuals to be had using matched grip as well. It just makes so much sense in a school setting. Transferring to mallets and timpan and drum set is so much easier when your grip is matched. Just a thought.

J.P. what is your secret to snare tuning? I want my snares to sound like that!
@jarsofclaydude7 ай бұрын
I’m torn on the snare matched grip vs traditional grip debate. Matched grip absolutely makes sense especially when applying what you learn on snare to all percussion instruments. BUT most colleges/ dci use traditional. It looks cooler indeed… it’s also hard to teach both and get consistent technique out of both.. just thinking out loud here…
@calebS.Buddy_Rich_Best_Soloist7 ай бұрын
I used traditional grip in high school and I just graduated in 2022. Doesn't make sense not to teach it to them and see if they can use traditional. I new traditional beforehand so I was ready but it is pretty easy to learn, and at least one of them had to have known it and they could have helped the others.

Re watching this line and other highschool lines this or vista should have won state perc. Marcus kind of just hung their hat over that quad feature. the rest of their line doesnt compete with this or vista. Always a pleasure seeing yall at work.

not even close.... the battery is dirty as hell, especially with such easy grade 2 parts.... but the most important part of the the percussion is the front, and we didn't see nor hear this.....

@@AdamChanddler Yeah i have to disagree. This battery is not close to being called dirty. Grade 2 parts maybe but dirty? no sir

😵💫😵💫😵💫 why are the snares playing matched grip ... Still great movements for not using traditional. Whole point of traditional grip is to have more room when moving/not to hit each other. And it's easier to do accents with the left if you have it at the right level
@tylera867 ай бұрын
Matched grip carries over to more percussion instruments which is likely more in line with how they want their percussion program to function. Also easier to tone quality hand to hand. Lots of lines use traditional and you can tell simply by listening (right hand pulsing, hand to hand phasing, uneven tone quality, etc…). Sure, there are great lines who do traditional and there are struggling lines the go matched but there isn’t really a superior choice here. Having a philosophy and teaching it well is the goal, and it’s clear that it’s taught well here.
