Just got my CDL under 1 year ago. I got into trucking after going thru a divorce and finding myself homeless. I am a company driver. I paid off my debt. I will save up and make a down payment on a house and then go for a local driver job while going to school and eventually quit trucking. That is my plan.

Just live in your truck as long as you can stand it save all your money and rent everything As You Go get hotels or an Airbnb or crash at someone's house when you're off... need a car go through Turo. Save and invest when you get tired of the road "then"buy a home and run local. Stay on the road and live rent-free as long as you can driver.

Those numbers are extremely optamistic.. Who runs 49 Weeks a year ?? U think maintenence is like Nascar? Ur truck can be in the shop for weeks at a time..for parts availability....breakdowns... etc... 20k annually for maintaince/towing... then u have layovers , broker messups ,shipper messups.. weather, .summer weeks with kids the list goes on........ I would bring that 49 weeks do to 42 to get a more realistic picture...[this happen out there on the road and the owner operator, and company are always loosing $$$

The truck needs to make money every day, but most o/o can't figure that out because they don't know there daily cost . Not only for the truck but for the home . It's 250 a day just to put the key in the door for me. That's 1750 a week based on 7 days I shoot for 500 plus a day if the truck moves or not. This past 7 days I did 5600 for this week to my account first 7 days of the month I did a 1000 dollars a day took 9 days off . I am a nebe out here only 33 years and still learn something new everyday

Great video!! I came into the industry late last year and when I got started with trying to purchase our fleet, (I have excellent credit and I had great assets) I was quoted in late August a 11% rate with Volvo/Mack and then when the units arrived in January it jumped to over 19.995%! So we went another direction and we were given a 12% rate for 60mos. Rates when we contracted with our carrier (fleet operator), were at an average of $2.25 per mile, all miles in August of last year. When our trucks actually hit the ground and started running it went to $1.60 per mile, all miles in late Feb/early March of this year. Today, if we were to switch verticals or have to resign our freight rate, it is around 1.50 a mile, all miles on the best given vertical and on our current vertical it is $1.25 per mile, all miles. So yes, it has gotten worse year over and we are in the middle of restructuring our debts and liabilities so we can try and survive and see if there is a bounce back in the industry sooner than later.. Our drivers on the current contract (W2) earn over 60K a year, we need to bring it down to $40K a year in order to survive, this would give us little to no profit during this period but it would allow us to operate and get to a point of revenue and when things turn around we can get out of debt and return our pay structure for our drivers. It is definitely not the market we came into and we pray it gets better for everyone in it. GOD BLESS

@HaVoC_TX Жыл бұрын
Well unfortunately your the problem. This industry is for drivers. We already have to many carriers. If you don’t actually drive we don’t need you in the industry. There’s plenty of carriers. You are just saturating the market and making it worse for owner operators who actually make this industry move.

i have 32 years experience 10 from it in north america,as a true coming of a live time dream,i am happy as well to leave the industry 2021. after the downgoing of the european trucking industry i was really surprised to see the same downgoing a second time in north america only a few years later. in my opinion the industry was changing from a job for specialists they was knowing what they are doing to a job for steeringwheel holders with absolute nothing on skills or experience and this people was destroying the industry. in my last time i saw more and more accidents,aggressivity in road rage,reckless and lots of stupid things. look at hwy 11 or 17 in northern ontario for an example or to 401/402 especially in winter times.!!! my tip to new drivers,maybe if they understand english: never use a truck as a weapon,use your brain and be careful against others and think always when you fuel,go to shower,shopping or anything else…they are many drivers more with the same wishes. collect skills,hear on older experienced drivers and never bring your aggressivity on the road…if you pissed off about anything,leave to a rest area,take a walk or lay back for a while. as a foreign national,learn the language and act like a guest…

Good video. The video captures most of the activities in the routine operations of a unit trucking and related finances. I have one concern though; the owner operator may have not paid off the truck and may have to pay the monthly amount required. Would be happy to see how the foregoing affects the owner operators cash flow. The owner operator annual pay total given may have to change. That is what makes owner operation as a business not good. The driver's cash flow may end up being better than an owner operators.

I blame KZbinrs and TikTokers. They have promoted the trucking industry including box trucks so much that it became over saturated. Plus the fact that the economy has slowed. I assume there will be massive lay offs and people exiting the industry. In the next 10 years idk if there will be a need for drivers as trucking may become automated. Make your money while you can and get ready to transition into another field

The media is literally saying the complete opposite. The Media is saying that there’s a shortage of drivers The average Truck Driver age is 48yrs old. That’s almost retirement age. Meaning there’s not enough young employee’s entering to replace the older generation In reality we know it’s because Mega Carriers don’t want to pay their employees a big enough salary to keep them

Autonomous trucks will not take over the jobs in 10 years maybe 20+ because there will always be a need for drivers to behind the wheel no computer is always going to work. I threw in the towel back in June. I hauled all of 9 loads the entire first six months and faced reality, I stay in a business where I am more or less paying outta my pocket to haul someone else's freight. I had a 24ft reefer box truck and had to get a hotel every night because there is no sleeper. In 2020 the sky was the limit and I sometime could not believe the money I was making per month. One month I had a $25k gross. Thats not bad for a box truck. The way things are not here is no way in hell I'm hauling anyones freight for free. I would not haul a damn thing for less than $2.25 per mile and what they were offering $1.50 per mile was an insult that only a fool would accept and there are plenty of fools out there.

When gas and food inflated, people scramble to save. So it rolls downhill. A manufacturer trying to cut costs, lay offs and even shipping. The broker , is buying the same groceries and gas as the shipper, so they want to keep their job. The truck driver same thing. So it will take awhile for people to accept the cost. A time adjustment. Every time the economy tanks it does this. Laat recession 2008ish, before that late 90s. Big company comes in. Ceo A gets a pat on the back for absorbing a customer base. Absobimg the rates, the smaller guy suffers, next CEO does a cost assesment , and he gets apat on the back by raising the rates and cutting customers that wont pay. Happens in other industry. It will take time . And another cycle

Companies don't appreciate good drivers. I'm talking about company drivers. I live the industry and I respect all drivers but company owners don't care about us. Bonus incentives really suck. Toy C.O. really need to pay attention our health & time away from home, before anyone comments well you know what you signed up for. Exactly that's why I become my own O/O so take care of the people that you have because we make the industry grow as well as your companies.

8.5-9 mpg to survive by lowered #Fuel #overhead expense usually requires 58-63mph. Every time I see speeding trucks fighting traffic I just shake me head they'll be bankrupt before the down cycle ends.

Drivers get paid regardless of whether they move or not. It’s part of the contract that the company has with that account. The account requires drivers to be on standby, therefore it requires a guarantee since there will be times when the drivers don’t move. The downside of this is that once the contract ends, the account might not renew it, hence drivers might lose their jobs.

You can make it just cut your cost and operations fees. You have a company lay off some people and have your office staff do more work with less people and trucking companies need to learn to do more split loads. Two loads same rates double the money on a loaf sometimes will help. Also in America know which states to stay away when hailing feight

FMCSA needs to be talked about more. When the Trump administration renegotiated NAFTA to FMCSA. In the new FMCSA, American companies with Mexican authority can now use Mexican drivers in the US. These drivers can take a load anywhere in the US. Then they have to get a load back to Mexico. Many companies have taken advantage of this. For example, Swift owns a Transmex. Before FMCSA, Transmex had less than 500 drivers. Now they have over 3000. So why would Swift pay a US driver when they can use a Mexican driver for 30 cents cheaper.
