Neither!! Buy an old truck with an old motor they’re cheaper to rebuild and has less electronics. You should do a comparison of old vs new my 2003 Freightliner classic xl with a 600hp custom tuned Detroit is getting 6.7mpg average

I would like to see the data on safety between a Cascadia and a Pete. Parts you don’t have to replace are the cheapest. I can’t be the only one that find all the warning bells and lights a constant distraction on the Cascadia. The Cascadia is always going to have the lowest cost of repairs because they just can’t be repaired. I was complaining to a buddy at work today about everything being out inmy truck. He told me I have to learn to ignore until it stops raining. His is a 24 with 30k miles and it’s as bad as mine. ABS, stab control, traction control, cruise control, and all that stuff is great but if it all craps the bed in the rain what’s the point? They need to get rid of all of that distraction if the stuff isn’t gonna work when you need it. Safety must go into the value equation in my opinion. But I could be wrong.

Im am owner op. Every time I see a bigger carrier with semi decent trucks I think to myself must be nice, to have all those new toys. And here we are RBX was one of those. They have some decent all yellow trucks. Good thing I haven’t filed for bankruptcy but it makes me feel a bit better. If they can’t make it work with all those trucks then what can I do?

While large trucking companies are failing, let's think of small companies, too. If small companies can't get off the ground, what are we yearning for? Credit is not business life, nor are red tape and category fees. It's not the time to make tiny tweaks to the trucking and freight companies. It's the right time to stare at the fundamental flaws of our transportation culture, and those flaws are loathe, jealousy, and complacency. The trucking world is unrewarding.

Wow, very well said. Here’s what I find interesting. I had a KZbinr reach out to me for, “proof”, of my paycheck stubs from 20 years ago. I made $65k in 04’, driving local and home daily. Trucking hasn’t seen a raise in, well, two decades; yes the move around to appear drivers are making money them that’s just not reality. If the companies who have access to credit, should have more cash flow are struggling the forecast going forward doesn’t look good. Wages must increase for recruitment, retention and retention. These trucking companies since I’ve been in the industry 96’, have gone through many generations of men and women. Now that the truth is coming out about trucking, they are forced to hire immigrants to service our own country. Just think if we got rid of all immigrants in trucking, America would be in serious trouble. Stay safe

I know it's old, but y'all are getting paid $85 a year (post tax, I assume), for driving 70 hours per 7 days? As a European long hauler it seems like an unbelievable amount of work (roughly 50 hours of work per week are my numbers)

Its good for you. You gotta big outfit. Not good for a new guy just starting out. But, R u kiding me. The costs, in every way, r to outrageous to support the idea that they get better fuel mileage. You got major costs of purchase, down time do to problems with new stuff, primarily the DEF system. No way a new guy can afford these trucks and build a business.
@Tlmmy-y3y21 сағат бұрын
So you have a bunch of trucks causing huge amount of traffic blocking the hills and passing another truck that ls governed stuck in the passing lane for a hour to be passed again by the same truck that ls lighter down the other side and men who drive real power are stuck behind your rig's that causes a lot of road rage

John Oliver did an excellent expose titled, "Trucks" . You guys should check that out. Another reason why your industry is lacking, is because corporations have hired illegals who will accept a fraction of your pay. And, they have saturated the market; which is undercutting you. If you people can't get serious/honest about the reality of the situation, then how do you expect to defend and protect your jobs? Are truckers unionized? When I was growing up, truckers were respected members of our workforce; who, were more than capable of maintaining their homes. I'm so sorry you all are going through this.

I've used both the Diesel APU and the Battery Pack APU and I much, much prefer the Diesel APU. I hate the Freightliner battery pack APU because in summer time when the A/C is on the batteries drain to the point that the engine has to start about 6-8 hrs into the 10 hrs off and the damn engine IMMEDIATELY revs to about 1200 rpm! Not only does it jolt me out of a sound sleep, I'm quite sure going to 1200 rpm immediately on startup is NOT good for the engine as the oil doesn't have a chance to get to the top of the engine. As you're well aware Ronen, idle time isn't necessarily the biggest factor a driver or corporation can control in fuel consumption (although it does play a large role). You've provided us with the engine and transmission specs - but what is the rear axle ratio on both the 21's and 25's? Keeping the rpms down at highway speeds is also a major factor in fuel consumption, along with the terrain (ET usually runs US Midwest, Ontario east, and US Eastern Seaboard, correct?) and load weight. I was running a 2017 Pete 579 with a PACCAR MX13 engine and automated transmission, (not sure what the rear axle ratio was) pulling an average of 76,000 to 78,000 lbs from Mira Loma, CA, to Calgary AB, and I'd get an average (according to the truck and math) of about 7.5 mpg. Naturally, the mileage would be anywhere from .25 to .5 gallon less during winter. I considered that good mileage because I'd be climbing from near sea level in CA to 3000+ ft elevation in Utah, then I'd be going through the mountains in Montana. I would fuel in St George UT, and again in Shelby MT (952 miles) and would fill between 130 - 140 gallons in Shelby. The truck did have a TriPac diesel APU, so idle time was minimal (I did idle the engine during the pretrip to get the oil flowing). Does the amount of fuel saved equal or exceed the cost of a new unit over the unit's lifespan? How long does ET usually keep its company units? If the '21 is paid off (or about to be) is it worth it to spend $200K plus the diesel APU on a new '25?
@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News21 сағат бұрын
That's a great insight about the APUs. The rear axle ratio is definitely a critical part of the equation!

I’m aware of my fuel ⛽️ consumption. I will do whatever it takes to build up the mileage to fuel, even if I have to run my unit at 60 mph. Currently I’m driving a 2024 Cascadia with ele interior comfort zone. I live in my truck for at least 6 wks. I’m constantly considering fuel consumption for hours resting. 7.8 mpg is average for each week and depending upon the job, 7.4-8.7. I have achieved 11.3 empty. Not withstanding the total picture. I’m leaving this to you-

Also... Have you thought about having just One drive live axle? I drove a Peterbilt like it, necer an issue. In Europe they pull as much weight or more, probably eith just One pulling axle. The weight reduction may pay off. What about ordering with disc brakes, i stead of drums, another huge weight reduction. Great video. 😊

HI , great video. I run a DD13 425 hp, with an Allison automatic, pulls great. 79900 all the time. Have you thought about going to a DD13 ? Is 10 % smaller in displacement, and can be order up to 525 hp ( which you may not need) 😂. The DD 13 is pretty much similar to DD15, and DD16. Just smaller. DD13, compares better to Volvo s 13 liter . It may pay off for you trying the DD13.
