what so custom about the fifth wheel? normal 24 to 30 inch slide aluminum top plate, stretch ? most likely 315 factory wheelbase

It's aluminum with the Teflon pads. It's way lighter and it is a 4-way moving plate. People have them, you just don't see them from the factory often.

I like your idea about a fixer upper. Everyone has different strokes. The gentleman that traded this back in is not hurting for money. He was hauling something very specialized and very expensive. He wanted to be home more often. This is not his 1st custom built truck.
