2023 Women in Blue Rita Olson Scholarship Recipient

One of the great highlights of the Women in Blue program is the Rita Olson Legacy Scholarship, named in honor of one of the San Diego Police Foundation’s greatest benefactors. This year’s scholarship winner is Senior Detective Tracey Barr, with the San Diego Police Department.
This scholarship represents Rita Olson’s wish to support the cause of public safety for generations to come. We recognize her bequest each year by presenting it to a woman who has chosen a career in public safety.
In past years, this scholarship was presented to a woman beginning her career to encourage and empower the next generation of women in blue. This year, the scholarship goes to a mid-career professional, who has proven her skill and dedication to the policing profession, to illustrate the lifelong learning necessary for excellent police work. This scholarship will fund her continuing education, enabling her rise in responsibility and career achievement.
