Yamaha has given the MT-10 the special SP treatment. Fancy Ohlins, steel braided brake lines, and a rockin' new paint scheme, this is one very fancy machine.
Come for a ride with our Road Test Editor, Rennie Scaysbrook, to find out more.
*We made an error in this video when we stated the 2006 Yamaha YZF-R1 SP was the first SP-badged sportbike. This is very much not the case, the SP name extending back into the early 1990s with the TZR250 SP and YZF-750 SP.*
*And it's $3000 difference, not $4000 as I stated. Sorry, guys. It's been a long year!*

Pretty sure this is going to be my next ride . Unfortunately my gen1 Carbon Diavel just threw a connector bearing and destroyed the cam and the bottom end bearings so it’s time to move onto the next bike and the MT10 looks to fill the thrills i get from the duc. Thanks for base model and SP comparison that was super helpful

I loved my 10. Changed out seat, levers, mirrors and brake pads. Nothing else. One of my favorite bikes, but I had too many already, and we were supposed to move. Seller’s remorse too. 😢. Still got a tracer and xsr900, but man that 10 was unique. 👍🤪🇨🇦

I cannot get over the blue rims on the SP. I think they are HIDEOUS. I love the acid blue teal on the base model or the phosphorus orange on the 2020-2021 Why can't they do the SP with the base model paint scheme???

The blue rims on the SP look so much better. The cyan ones one the base model look like the colour of granma's car

3 grand more not 4 like you said if my math is right ...base mt10 you said is 14 and change while the SP version is 17 and change ...is that not THREE Thousand rather than 4? Which anyone that thought to upgrade to Ohlins after buying an MR10? Total bargain! Steel braided brake lines? more icing on the cake and then of course you still have that excuslusive paint job which arguably is worth quite a lot if one thinks to repaint a new bike

I appreciate your candor and real world perspective on these bikes. I road an earlier gen MT10 and really found the throttle abrupt and I was curious if that was addressed? A nice all around package for carving, track and touring (lucky to get 160 Mikes in range though). Looking forward to the next review!

The throttle has been largely fixed. It's never going to be as smooth as a regular inline four, but it's vastly better to what it used to be.

Owning a 2016 R1S and 2022 MT-10 SP, yes, the throttle abruptness that left using Power 1 on the street a huge hindrance, is gone. I'm in P1 all the time. I would call it "snappy" vs "jerky" of the old engine map. P2 is super fun to ride around in as well.

Love it and looking forward to own one ... No review seams to mention it, BUT sadly the latest generation doesn't have any mounting points for hardcases anymore. The subframe as well as the passenger footpegs don't feature any threats to mount some hardware to. So no more sport touring modded MT-10 builds based on the new platform. I'll be looking for the edgy, trasformer looking predisessor MT-10 SP instead. I value that luggage options more then the 6-axis-IMU for daily commuting. (german Autobahn)

17 - 14 = 3 . Obviously 4K would be too much, but its actually 3 , which I think is ok for electronic suspension and braided lines

What do I get for being the first view? Keep up the great content. I guess I'll have to trade my base 22 tuono v4 for one of these 😩jk, sometimes I do wonder if I'm missing out on factory's electronic suspension since I sort of put the base into track settings after getting it home and have been pretty happy with that, haven't experienced semi active suspension on anything yet.

Don't do it. Keep the Tuono. I have one and nothing is significantly better. That V4 motor is still the best and the the chassis is superior to the Yamaha. Oh and the styling, fit and finish is all nicer on the Aprilia too.

@@cyclenewsI might've sold the tuono (the crunched up legs were getting to me on longer rides and freeway) as well as my 690 supermoto with $8k+ in mods (the trans was still driving me nuts) and gotten a v4 pikes peak (couldn't get a test ride on h2sxse, guess it's that dealer's loss), but now maybe I should just outfit an Mt10sp for comfort/luggage. Pikes peak was worlds more engaging and exciting than s1000xr, but the ergos, size, weight, and body position still lose to the level of engagement and fun that I got on naked bikes like sfv4s, tuono, superduke(didn't really gel with the KTM, especially the Evo suspension, maybe I just needed more time to play with the settings), although the wind protection on anything other than tuono was awful. And of course they announced the RS not long after I got my pikes peak, oh well, RS doesn't really make much sense with it's dry clutch and the engine that always makes less torque than the standard engine and doesn't even make more power until 10.5k rpm anyway in addition to having a tail section that doesn't work with a top box, titanium subframe weight savings are nice though. Basically pikes peak still leaves me wanting a smaller, lighter, more engaging and exciting bike that would be better around town and in the canyons (pikes peak does well there except for very tight sections where I can't run away from its size and weight). Gotta try dropping the front fork to make it more nosy because there's not enough weight on the front, and not enough feel from the front end. It's still a lunatic machine and very fun when I do naughty and fast things, it just makes speed too easy and hides some of it. Not having engine braking adjustment is sad (rs is better there, i guess), so is not having a passive mode or at least a more detailed suspension adjustment outside of front/rear harder/softer + rear preload which needs to be maxed out for performance riding. Maybe a traditional sport tourer with supernaked performance and excitement would be perfect. Something like a streetfighter v4 gt; I guess superduke gt is the closest thing to it since ninja1000 and gsxs1000gt+ aren't very spicy, too bad aprilia didn't do enough to the tuono to make it more comfortable, and then I had awful dealership experience which ended up with me letting it go.

I really hope Yamaha throw a slightly bigger screen and a centre stand at it and call it a Fazer. Would be the ultimate do it all bike.

The HEADLIGHTS are teeny-tiny specs...NO ONE will see you coming in busy traffic, especially the avalanche of DEER we have out east. And the single Popeye cyclops light? HORRIBLE.
