Unnecessary to ruff that Club so early.Just draw trumps and ruff out the Diamonds if they break 4-1. As it happens they are 3-2 ,so you have an easy 13 tricks - 5 Spades and a Club ruff in Dummy , 6 Diamonds and the HA.

The response to the double on the first hand is worth a jump to 2 ♠ as partner has guaranteed spades.. A 1 ♠response shows a bare minimum which this hand does NOT have - 6 points AND 5 spades which is definitely worth a jump.

Hi again Anthony. I am sorry, I cannot agree with you. A takeout double shows: an opening bid (or better), 4 of all unbid majors and tolerance for unbid minors., or any hand with 18+ hcp When responding to a takeout double of a bid at the 1-level, the default standard is: A suit without a jump: 0-7 hcp, 4+ cards A suit with a jump: 8-11 hcp, 4+ cards 1NT; 8-10 hcp, stoppers in the opponent's suit Cue-bid invitational with both majors, or any forcing hand A 6 hcp hand, despite having five spades and a singleton heart is not worth a jump opposite a minimal takeout double from partner. There is some preemptive effect by jumping to 2S, but with I prefer the default standard as its more focused on finding game for your side. If the opening bidder re-enters the auction, then you will get another chance to bid your spades later, thereby showing your partner some extra values/length without getting them too excited. The decision to compete further will be yours, not your partners (unless they have more than a minimal takeout double). Further, I am not afraid of missing game because partner will cue-bid the opponent's suit with 18+ hcp and a spade fit. This allows me to sign-off in 2S to show a very poor hand with no game interest. Cheers, Rob

@@durhamdbc Thanks for your detailed reply. But I would consider responder does have the strength for a jump response even according to your rules. He has 6 points, 5 spades & a singleton & that adds points & strengthens the hand into a 2 level response especially as you say that in competitive bidding it may be worth pre-empting.

Why did you cash a third round of trumps on the second hand when the trumps had alreasdy split 2/2?

You are correct Anthony. What you can't see is how many takes we took to make this video. It didn't affect the results or the teaching point of the video, so I opted to not do another take.

It would have been nice if you would have introduced and explained the Grand Slam Force, for those persons who are interested. Otherwise, there is no point in mentioning it all, unless you are showing off. Finally, you need to stop relying so much on High Card Points and also consider the losing trick count. The responder in the first hand should definitely jump since you almost have to have spades, and he has a 7-loser hand with your double. I would almost consider jumping to 4 spades after the double, since there are so many hands that you could have that would make a game in spades. AND, if this is not the case, you have essentially preempted them out of their hearts, so you win two ways. I would say more, but after all, this is your your you tube channel, and you probably want to be the teacher.
