Love the pictures and cabinet cards. When you said the picture had gotten wet it made me think of my dads baby picture which was in an old oval frame in my aunt basement in Michigan. The basement flooded and the picture got moldy and cracked. I took it to a photo/camera shop when they used to have those and they copied the photo and digitally repaired it. I have the negative, the original. Had 8X10 pictures printed for my brothers and myself. Thanks for sharing.

Another great MM challenge. Those images from children’s books are delightful. I think it’s a blessing you have a new carpenter. If the previous one hadn’t done some things correctly think what a mess you could have ended up with by the time he finished! Love your stories to go with people on cabinet cards. You didn’t have one for the lady at the end. I think she’s the family’s matriarch. Her son manages the family business since her husband passed. But she still holds the purse strings and makes the major decisions in the business. 🙂 Today is a snow day and we may get up to 17” of snow so I’m going to play with paper, scissors and glue! Have a blessed day!

I also am lucky enough to have the old family cabinet cards. Some have names, most do not and I thought there was no one left to tell me who they are. Have started visiting the local genealogy society from the county where my dad grew up. It's manned by volunteers and has an amazing amount of historical documents and old yearbooks etc..that have been donated. When I told one of them the family name I was researching, it turned out she and I are related through my great, great grandmother. She was able to identify some of the photos and her husband found more names by using the Ancestry website. I continue to visit on their day and she has shared photos she has as have I. So be sure you root thru all those old family trunks and boxes too and check out your local genealogy society or library.

I was lucky to find a cabinet card album from the 1800s complete with the cards, letters to family members and even a metal photograph (can’t remember what they are called). The letters are in a foreign language and very brittle. The album is a thin embossed leather with a hook an loop closure. I love it. It came from a Friends of the Library book sale Library book sales are great places to find old books and other vintage stuff for journals.

Good morning, Gayle! I love cabinet cards. I have a bunch that I might try to share one of these days. Hubby and I are taking a trip up to see the Corning Glass Museum in New York today. I have collected a few Early American Brilliant Glass pieces and we want to go see some larger examples. They are so beautiful and it's amazing the artistry of the glass cutters. The fact that they are over 100 years old is just mind baffling. What's sad is how so many young people don't even care about these kinds of heirlooms like they used to. But wow, how much detail and caring went into making each piece. Just like the cabinet cards, I wonder about the stories that go along with each one. Many were probably displayed at the dining table on special occasions in big Victorian homes. By people like those in the cabinet cards. Ah, it brings me such delight every time I see and/or hold one. Well, thanks for your video today. Hope you have a great day! Hugs! Sue ♥

Mornin’ Gayle, hunkering down for major snow storm here in Nebraska. I have some cabinet cards from my mom’s side of the family, never knew that’s what they were called so thank you for explanation. Thanks also for sweet little scenarios you described - the pic of Harvard student in bottom of his mom’s sewing basket was my favorite . As always, your special touch made for another enjoyable video. Glad your carpenter is on the job too! Have a blessed day!

hi Gayle. i’m watching with Calvin (my golden lab). he’s not as interested as my Rocky Road used to be. maybe he’s more of a scrapbooker😅… i’m not much for the vintage style, but i’ve come across some images of African American women from the Victorian era. as a result, i’m very inspired

I absolutely love the stories that you tell that you've made up about your pictures. You just make me chuckle sometimes and I appreciate it. I have a number of cabinet pictures of grandparents and my father when he was a baby and then I think when you graduated from high school or maybe the eighth-grade not sure but they're all in my scrapbook of my life. If I had been doing junk journals I would have copied them. But I've never heard of junk journals until just a few years ago. More information than you probably want. LOL

Gayle, I just watched an “oldie but goodie”….faux front envelopes. I love them, but in your craft with me, you didn’t comment on how to attach them in the journal. Is it bound in, a flip, glued down or put in a pocket? I have considered all of those choices but am eager to discover how the master crafter of this idea would do it! I am a huge fan and look forward to your videos every day! Thanks for being you! Cindy
