@@draw1951 That movie was set in 1912. Amazing to see how much progress was made by designers in a few short years. 1919 saw the first non-stop flight across the Atlantic. If I was a billionaire, I'd fund the building of a dozen of these things.

A small outfit called "The Wright Experience," builds very authentic replicas of early Wright airplanes. They even build copies of Wright engines to power them. They built the replica of the very first Wright Flyer I that was supposed to fly on the Centennial anniversary of powered flight, Dec. 17, 2003. Al though it had made some previous test flights in prrparation for the event, the day of was rather warm and rainy, higher density altitude and no wind, so the replica was not able to fly that day.

I was watching that approach, wondering how the pilot was going to dump speed without flaps - the wheelie during rollout was perfect, steady as a rock, just nose- high enough to flare without any danger of tail strike. I love watching really skilled, high- time pilots handling machines like this. I was a little disappointed that the engine sound wasn’t captured, as other commentators have mentioned, but maybe there was ambient noise that spoiled the original recording. Perhaps next time this beautiful machine is taken for a flight, the producer could make another audio recording? Mille grazie for sharing this!
@LucaGallinaFodat2 ай бұрын
1. the pilot is quite special, a former Italian air Force test pilot. 2. sound is original, but I had a Tiger Moth flying over me (not to be seen in the video) and most of the sound on take off roll comes from her Gipsy Major engine. The Caproni is now undergoing wintertime maintenance, next spring I will surely make new videos with, hopefully, just the bomber's sound :-)

@LucaGallinaFodat2 ай бұрын
engines are modern, two Continental 260 HP + 1 lycoming 180 HP. Total is 700 HP vs the 450 HP of the most powerful version of the original plane. The total weight of the replica structure (safety first) is anyway about 1000 kg heavier than the original.
