I love your perspective on all this. I think I’ve started doing something similar to this as my children are moving into high school. I usually have several courses to draw from, so I’m giving more personal choice for the books they read.

When you have so many resources available, it is a bit easier to let them pick and choose. My kids love reading, so I am pretty open to their opinions on book choices. Plus, I feel like I read some books in high school that I did not enjoy at all, but actually love now, so I keep that in mind when I am planning things out as well.

Now, we have a different flow to our weeks. We take one day each week as a passion project focused day. My older kids still do their math and english, but then have the rest of the day to focus on their passion project.
