I decided that I needed to hit the streets a little more. Aside form the odd spot with a few friends I pretty much just cruise to one of the local skateparks, which is fun, but there is something about hunting down a spot and having a go at it. So I took my VERY limited 51yr old's trick bag out onto the Auckland streets over the last few weeks of holiday break and had some fun.
The project included a bunch of solo night sessions (and one with a mate), a couple of daytime kick-outs by keen local council employees, getting told to go to a skatepark by a random passing older gentleman, and being sworn at by an e-bike commuter when my board accidentally flew into his path causing him to skid to a halt.
But I had so much fun. I didn't get anything new but I worked my basics on a few spots I wouldn't usually hit and managed to not get broke off (the usual few aches and strains but nothing serious). As much as anything, this is a push to make myself get out of the skateparks a bit more and explore the city on my board like I did when I was younger, so, win! 😁
