Wow. I'm so excited for you. I didn't know anything about FKT's until I read JPD's book, and I was fascinated. I can't even wrap my head around how exhausting doing something like that must be! My questions: When did you first become interested in 'trail running' and FKT's? Were you a runner before you thru-hiked the AT? What is your biggest fear/worry about your upcoming FKT? Which section do you anticipate will be your most difficult? YOU GO, GIRL! I hope our paths cross, and I'll give you a 'HIGH FIVE' as we pass each other! ...and I'll look forward to watch the 'replay' when I get back home. 🙂

Saw that you actually accomplished this goal. Jaw dropping accomplishment. After falling in love with trail running I have recently started dabbling in mountain races. Just did the kismet which was a half marathon up cathedral ledge in New Hampshire. Excited for vulcan fury next week. I love hopping on the AT when I’m in the Berkshires for short section runs. The top of the AT is absolutely gorgeous with Kathadin and Baxter state park (acadia near by). Thank you for inspiring me to build even more. Perhaps some ultras in my future.

Hi! I was a trail angel at Hurds Corner Road in Pawling New York, For about 15 years until I moved. I met so many special people I used to leave 6 gallons of water, fruit, watermelon, a list of places in the area if I ran into them, I would take them to the store if they wanted to or down to the village where they could get a nice burger. I’m going to follow you and maybe we could meet somewhere on the route! A tip from those I met, make sure you have pads for blisters. I met a woman from Western Massachusetts, who was a biologist and her feet were so bad. I let her stay overnight inside my house. I trust her so much I went out to dinner and came back. 41 days is pretty short from what I’ve heard. I’m sure you’ve been checking out other KZbin videos of prior hikers. Good luck and happy trails. I’m gonna send some pictures once I find them.
@carolynkeane81968 ай бұрын
I just did the math. If you did 27 miles a day 😮for 41 days that’s only 1,107. The AT IS 2,198 miles. That’s a negative balance of 1,091 miles. Most hikers I met were doing about 20 miles a day. Granted it was July when they came through where I lived, but I think you should be more reasonable don’t want you being on the summit while there’s a blizzard.!!

Something you probably don't consider but living on Gulf Coast we always watch. August is right in the middle of hurricane season, any hurricane entering the Gulf of Mexico, targeting Galveston Texas to Florida panhandle, usually turns northeast after landfall and heads straight up the Appalachian Trail turning those mountain trails into waterfalls.

My support team is named "Jackson" and "Franklin", Jackson is on the $20, Franklin is on the $100. Good morning Tara, I would be far more impressed if your hike was at a normal pace that would allow you to absorb the natural beauty and history of the AT and share in a blog weekly or daily with those who cannot or would not hike the AT. That would be a record to boost about.
@tammyuren37858 ай бұрын
She has already done the AT in sections and through hicked it. I’m sure she has seen the glory, beauty and hard work that the different clubs have done to maintain the trail. She now has set a different goal for herself maybe not what you would do but I’m sure she wouldn’t judge you and your plan please don’t judge her. Everyone does their own thing and hikers should support each other
@taratreks8 ай бұрын
Tammy, thanks! I'd agree with your comment. Many people have this view of FKTs and don't see the value in them. Have done plenty of thru hiking at a "normal pace" and FKTs at a quicker pace I can say both adventures are valuable in their own way. Also on FKTs you don't normally go faster than a 4mph pace which is just 2 miles faster than most backpackers. The name of the game is spending LONG hours on trail. 14-20 hours of hiking. Ken, I have vlogged my entire thru hike from 2019 and you can watch that on my channel. It's towards the beginning of when I began making videos.
