Overview
Even though it wears a plus-size wardrobe, the 2024 Audi S8 handles curves like a much smaller sports sedan. Based on the A8 luxury sedan, the S8 ups the ante with trick performance features such as rear-wheel steering and a torque-vectoring rear differential to achieve handling heroics. On top of all that, it swaps the A8's V-6 for a twin-turbo V-8 with 563 horsepower. The roomy cabin is ideal for relaxing while covering long distances, so you get the best of both worlds. A host of high-tech features provides plenty of opportunity for connectivity, but if you want to tune out the outside world, there's no better way to do that than to open it up and let that V-8 sing. The S8's athleticism is rare in the large luxury sedan segment, and its only real competitors are the Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo and the Mercedes-AMG S63, both of which cost quite a bit more.
What's New for 2024?
Like the regular A8 sedan, the S8 gains an app-based remote-start feature for 2024 as well as a new suite of apps designed to improve access to entertainment and navigation. Otherwise, the S8 is unchanged for the 2024 model year.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
S8: $121,695
That six-figure starting price is steep, but the S8 comes well-equipped even by luxury car standards. We'd suggest the Comfort Plus package as it adds heated rear seats, a leather-wrapped dashboard, a head-up display, and fancier LED headlamps; the Executive package is also appealing and comes with blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist, and 21-inch wheels.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The S8's sole engine choice is a potent one: a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine making 563 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is standard, and the transmission is an eight-speed automatic. Audi claims a top speed of 155 mph, and there are fuel-saving systems, too, including cylinder deactivation and a mild-hybrid setup with a small electric motor and battery. At our test track, the S8 blasted to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds. An active suspension system can control each wheel individually to improve ride quality, and it is tuned differently than that of the standard A8, delivering improved cornering prowess thanks to reduced body roll. Audi also includes equipment such as a torque-vectoring rear differential and rear-wheel steering to increase agility; powerful carbon-ceramic brakes are optional.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
Even though the S8 is technically a hybrid, buyers shouldn't expect Toyota Prius-level fuel efficiency. The EPA estimates that the best we can expect is 22 mpg on the highway, with the city rating dropping to just 13 mpg. Ouch. We haven't had the chance to test the S8 on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route, but when we do, we'll update this story with the results. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Fine materials line nearly every square inch of the S8's cabin, including leather upholstery, a faux-suede headliner, and a stitched leather dash cover. The front seats offer standard heating, cooling, and massage, while the rear cabin offers tons of space for passengers to stretch out. To pamper those in the back seat even more, consider the Rear Seat Comfort package, which adds power-adjustable outboard seats with heat, ventilation, and massage, plusher headrests, heated armrests, and a remote control for the car's infotainment system. Four-zone automatic climate control is standard, as is a multi-color ambient interior lighting system. The trunk is generously sized and identical to that of the A8, which proved its mettle in our testing by holding six carry-on suitcases. For comparison the Mercedes-Benz S-class held 5 and the BMW 7-series just three.

I understand the appeal of fully touch-screen systems, BUT i much prefer the physical buttons in 100% of the interactable aspects of a vehicle. Haptic feedback just isnt the same as tactile buttons and switches. If im driving and want to adjust something, i like not having to extend my arm all the way out or guessing where the button is on the screen while my eyes should be on the road and my mirrors.

Agree. I've been driving a 'screened' vehicle for 3 years now and I'm still not comfortable adjusting anything on the fly. And the few times that I must, I have this feeling that I'm doing something wrong driving-wise.

So you should give into your feelings, because you are doing something wrong, as you’re driving attention needs to be on driving, and your actions behind the wheel could cause you to end up in a hospital or a morgue. Remember, driving is not a right, it’s a privilege, and we should act accordingly, because that privilege can be taken away from you, as everything we do while driving a motor vehicle, is a life and death situation. So full disclosure, I drive a Tesla, and when I need to do something like change the settings of the temperature. I simply tell the ADAS to do it, using voice, commands, and so there’s any number of commands that the system can respond to, and as cars get more and more sophisticated, there will be almost no need to actually touch anything , as you can simply use voice command, or in some cases gesture, and the system will respond to you, and that’s the way it’s going to go, because anything else simply doesn’t make sense, and physical contact is old-school, and an old world way of doing things, and we’re not going back, no matter how much whining and bellyaching about it, saying, oh, my oh, my car don’t have physical buttons, and switches, so those days are gone my friends, and you might as well get over it, as neither you or your grandpas are no longer driving the bus, the kids are, and they’re having none of that. Capeesh!

My car has an amazing feature; the ignition barrel at the side of the steering column. I put the key in there and it stays there until I take it out. Never can I not find it nor is it taking up space in the cup holder, for example. If it's not broke, don't fix it 😉

First of all,it's not called Audinky,but Audi. Second,you know nothing about what means quality in cars since you are to blind not to see the cheap plastic buttons for the lights made exactly like in Golf. Basically the whole dash and central console are covered in cheap plastic which Audi prefer to call...piano lack. Few Chinese tablets and kids are happy. Even the screen is not as responsive as 10 year old iPhone. Absolute crap.

Beautiful! 3:18 you see the set damage on the side leather cushion panel. Even high end automakers can’t get rid of it. The leather seat covers are made in mass so they sit stacked on each other until production..
