2024 BMW 1300GS - The No Start Condition

Software update (125_011_030) and it's fixed, say BMW, I take it out to see if I can duplicate the problem again.

A couple of clarifications to help with some questions: 1. This is not the only place that this "no start" happens, it happens everywhere, it's just hard to duplicate and I chose this place because it happened here consistently a month before when I was shooting the 6 month review video of this bike. 2. I happens in cold and warm temps. 3. It's been happening for about 5 months, most of the time without a drone around. (so that ends the drone controller interfering with the key fob questions) 4. Hi Scott. It’s good to know that the starting issue on your bike is now gone. Mine too, but it happened naturally, after the first breaking service. If they made any software to the bike, they didn’t charge it nor mentioned. So I’m convinced that it was just a matter of new things malfunctioning?… Nice views and footage angles from the drone assisting you on producing some very beautiful plans and images. Great video again. The drone struggles are somewhat amusing, too. Besides that, though,… I just cannot warm up to the 1300 GS. Watched a million videos, saw it in person, sat on it, was offered a demo ride, and…couldn’t even get myself to take advantage of that. I sincerely hope that the Adventure version is more appealing.

I threw my leg over a 1300gs at the dealership while my 1250gs was in for a service. The 1300gs looks and feels so much smaller compared to the 1250gs (actually feels a similar size to the transalp). Weight felt pretty similar, but the 1300gs doesn't have that rugged go anywhere feel or look of the old model. Also, the seat didn't feel as comfortable....although I'm not sure what seat was fitted to the dealers 1300gs. Overall, a slight step up in performance.....but a significant shift away from the GS DNA.

Hi Scott, so just to add to this, my R13GS had its first service 31st May, and a software update, going from 125_011_030, which was in it from purchase, Feb 2024, to 125_013_030. My bike was also doing the no start issue intermittently, I took before and after pics to confirm this change. J

Hi Scott. I tried a 1300 today. First observation- dreadful engine noises which seem to come across in this video. It’s a flyer mind you. What make / model is the drone and I guess it’s programmed to follow you. Neat !

Mine did that too, but i realized it didn't like when I hit the kill switch. Since then I've only shut it off with the power button, and it's never failed to start on me.

Scott, in addition, today I put my new BMW Plus charger on my bike, and even though I have done lots of riding over the week, my battery showed 24% on the charger when first analysed !!! Comment from the dealer after 1st service yesterday, was a fault showing on the battery, and if the start problem continues, a new battery under warranty will happen, now after a couple hours she is showing fully 100% charged... Go figure :)

Riding mine for 3 months now. Seems like the mike on the camera picks up more of the engine noise than my ears detect when I'm on the bike? However, I always ride with 12db earplugs for wind noise, and she sounds like a dream! 🤣

Na, it's not the mic, I have an early production model, yours is later, they fixed the noise after the first few months.

@NtP from your last reply to me it's soon to be bye bye R1300 GS 👋Fixed or not...if you are thousands of miles from home after all that, it's going be 'in your head' 'Is it going to start'? I've never thought that while on my 39 year old Honda. 🤔 You can 'get' 'high altitude' shots from your drone, but you need to fly it manually while you are riding. So, you need to be good at multi taxing..🙂 Itchy Boots did it in her last series on here. She probably has this series too, but I can't confirm that. Bring on the RT tour...👍

The transmitter tower may have given you issues have known bikes to be moves away at gas stations that have near transmitter stations that interference with fobs

You're too hard on your drone😂! My 2018 K1600B had an intermittent clicking when starting issue (would not start) where I needed to turn everything off and try again at least once. After a software update around 2021 it stopped doing this.

I don’t know how many miles are on your bike but I have three new bikes and all of them had brain fart starting issues while they had under 1000 miles. Could be for many reasons. Engine break in, fueling etc. DJI “follow me” is not the best. It works fine if it’s following you from behind, in front of you is better, to the side is the worse.

I wonder if the drone comms won't interfere with keyless and vice versa. They could have bumped the keyless power via software, which would explain the drone issues.

Na, the drone always looses me, been on many different bikes, it uses a visual tracking system with the camera, not radio "beacon" like the skydio2.

On my 1250rt 2023 they change the battery but I still have some issues especially when the engine stop running after putting the stand down. I lift the stand and the restart hesitate like he will not restart again. Can you try this condition ?

absolutely true. Normally when my XR is in for a service, i get a XR courtesy bike. Once they gave me a GS. Boy was I happy to get back on my own XR. XR = 911, GS = old defender.

@@petervautmans199 I had the 1250 gs for exactly one year and I was so dissatisfied then I exchanged it for the xr in 2021 and since then I've been satisfied the xr is by far the better motorcycle if you don't ride off-road. For me, it's incomprehensible why many people drive GS, but it's probably because they are blind to drive

Stay away from tech laden bikes.Sooner,or later,they will cost a small fortune to repair,if they can be repaired.Get a bike as simplistic in operation as possible.You're just one software update away from being stranded.👎👎
