Well I am just an amateur US investor. When I look at CSHI, my info source says it has dividend yield of 6.22%. Then I look at that nice monthly pattern it seems attractive. But then I zoom out a bit and you see the average value has gone down about 1% over the last year. So to me CSHI is a 5% return investment. Similar with HIGH the dividend indicated is 9.72%, but there is average decrease in value of about 4% over the last year. Again, to me that is a 5% return investment. BUCK appears more stable but it did take about a 2% excursion south over the last 6 months. It seems to have recovered lately and the yield from my source is 5.68%. THTA has a fairly stable monthly pattern but only 4 months of data with a 7.19% yield. I have been using SGOV (4.13%) and USFR (5.24%) for cash parking. I like that they are not averaging down and are not so over engineered on how they work.

im glad you admitted form the get go you are an amateur. dont take this the wrong way but yes you are. please go on the each funds website and look at the performance since inception. its right there in black and white. no need to guess and estimate like you are doing. Highs return is almost 7% and CSHI is over 8% as of end of Feb. . You cannot just look at stock charts and prices and estimate like you did. you will never get a clear picture of the funds this way.

High simplify 20mars 2023 price 25.14 20 mars 2024 24.48 + 2.4742$ (distribution) = 26.95 26.95/25.14 = 1.072 That 7.02% net not counting the reinvestissment of the distribution into the fund so its should be a little over 7.02%

What do you think about FFN.PR.A, FTN.PR.A and BK.PR.A? All three are split fund preferred shares with div yield between 8-9%. Dividend are eleigible dividends so its tax efficient. So you get very low risk, high yield and tax efficiency.

I get callable agency bonds through Fidelity. No state/local taxes. To get +6% yield you have to buy 10, 15 or 20yr duration bonds; however, since the Fed's next move will be a cut (as opposed to a hike) these bonds will never make it to maturity. In fact, mine keep getting called at their first call dates, so I just keep rolling the money into new issues. I've got 6.5% bonds that can be called after 1 month, 6.25% bonds callable after 6 months and 6% callable at 12 months.

Thanks for the video Adrian! Yes, cash ETFs are very useful information. BANKs always want to lock in our money for long term with low interest rate. No point of giving our hard earned money to them. Still like SPLT to Canadian dollar and HIGH for US dollar. These are my go to funds.

thinking of SPLT I need to hold money for the tax man next year and want to separate these monies from other monies I have in cash account and by the end of the year it should be a 6 figure tax bill I don't want a regular interest bearing money market fund so this should be more tax efficient.

A big crash is inevitable with the size of the bubble we are in. I have a huge block of funds in my cash flow portfolio in SPAY with some MPAY and LPAY as a rate cut hedge, also HGY, which is not a "non-volatile" asset, but is an important disaster hedge.

HPYM is fun to say, so that is a good selling point; my buying strategy is not sophisticated. I have a irrational block against putting money in my savings account at CIBC into an ETF...safe as it may be...too far away from being hidden in my mattress, maybe... I'll watch it again in a day or two and try to get over that! ;)
