A spectacular day of Grasstrack action on a superbly laid out track for the 2024 Chaddesley Chaser. It may have been only the second time the club had run, but with such a terrific entry, and a track laid out for super fast racing, the large crowd were treated to some superb racing all day.
The highlight of the day that all the spectators were looking forward to was the clash in the 1000cc RH Sidecars between multi British Champions Mark Cossar/Carl Blyth, and Terry Saunters/Liam Brown. Saunters & Brown have already beaten Cossar/Blyth a few times in 2023. It was a real mouth watering clash of the giants, but which crew would come out on top this time, or would another crew come to the fore? With Michael Austin having Wayne Rickards as a stand in passenger and looking very quick in practice and through the heats, could they spring a surprise? Or could Paul Whitelam/Richard Webb take their first major victory for a while on their new Honda powered machine, which certainly looks faster than their old machine. With perfect conditions for racing, they might not be wet enough for the Godden powered crew of Neal Owen/Jason Farwell, but they still looked very quick anyway. Great to see Kieran Hicks/Frankie Courtney back on song again, after looking out of sorts for the last couple of season.
A very competitive 250cc Solo class saw Ricky Scarboro and Graham Thamos having some tremendous battles all day, with Thomas always starting fast, and Scarboro not making a start all day, but this made for some great racing to watch, along with Tim Greig, Aidan Arthur, and Shane Knight. The 350cc Solo's also saw some fantastic racing between John Cox, Jack Roberts, Liam Ashcroft, Will Thurlby, and Steve Garside. Jack Roberts was also in the 500cc Solo class, and along with James Theobald, Ryan Ashcroft, Will Thurlby, and the fast improving Jordan Derrick put on some super races.
Ricky Scarboro again featured in the Pre '75 Solo class, and yet again never made a start all day, so had to try and battle past the likes of Dave Hammond, Martin Adams, John Priest, and Phil Kinman. Tony Atkin looked a class apart in the Upright Solo's, but the racing for the minor places was absolutely superb. Scott Ryan, Jason Prynne, Luke Tuck, Eddie Rouse, Martin Adams, Dave Hammond, were fighting out for the other 2 podium places.
As per normal now, a big field of GT140 Solos put on some amazing racing, and as per normal the main contenders doing battle were Ian Clark (Almost unstoppable in this class), Kevin Gwillam, Wayne Broadhurst, Luke Wicks, Mark Scopes, Paul Smith, and Mark Chessell, all in the front line, at times 5 a breast in the bends, super stuff to watch.
In the Old & New Sidecars, Mark Courtney had more competition in the shape of Sam & Guy Jacobs having only their 2nd out on the bike. Dillon Newton with his sister on the back also put on a great display, even though at one point it looked like they were going to lose their sidecar wheel.
Some great racing in the Youth classes, with Thomas Vining all the way from Guernsey having some real tight battles with Dylan Amies and Liam Cox, but who would take the win?
The Youth Juniors showed what skill they had, with some tight races between Brayden Blyth, William Offen, and Archie Whitelam, but the class rider in the Juniors had to be Finley Theobald.
Only downer on the day was the spill involving Kane Newby, which of the time of posting this video i was asked if i could not include the footage, but hopefully if Kane makes a full recovery i will be able to show.
All in all, an absolutely cracking meeting, with lots a great racing.
