Your reviews get better all the time, deserve more views. You'll get there though. People appreciate someone who knows what they're talking about and is prepared to be honest about their reviews and not just fluff the pillows of the manufacturers.

Thanks. There’s really only 3 reasons a car journalist won’t point out the flaws; a) Advertising deals are influencing editorial direction b) The journalist simply isn’t good at their job/doesn’t know the product c) The channel is chasing ‘likes’ and more followers and/or cares what the car brand thinks of their comments; afraid they won’t get the next invite etc.

Love watching videos from ten years ago. Like this one. Just old stereotypes. An 80s bbq. The rest of us have moved on.

Thanks, Brett. These videos have basically helped rekindle my interest in what's new on the roads. When manufacturing ceased in Aus, I spat the dummy and said "Nup, don't care, it's all the same platform-sharing transverse-engine front-drive crap". Turns out that 'crap' is quite interesting! Particularly with the emergence of new-ish manufacturers like Chery.

I wouldn’t have an issue with Chinese cars if they met these two criteria. 1. Genuinely good vehicle. 2. _Not_ manufactured by a state or municipal-owned company.

Really appreciate a critical appraisal. I've stopped viewing other car reviewers because i just can't trust them.
@01evren5 ай бұрын
You made the comment about not trusting your family in this car fair enough, but this car has 5 star ncap rating. You call it a pair of servo sunnies ridiculous like it or not the Chinese are coming just like the Koreans in the late 90s. I have watched all your reviews and noticed you bash all Chinese vehicles.
@drivingenthusiastaustralia5 ай бұрын
I don't just 'bash' Chinese cars. I 'bash' any car that isn't very good. I've tested over 1000 vehicles, and, based on my experience and professional analysis, I think this car is under-engineered. I can't think of any reason why I would recommend it to anybody. By the way, what does "Chinese are coming" mean? Is that a threat or the company tagline? And what does it have to do with this Omoda 5 right now? I have no doubt Chery cars will get better. But what about now? Would you like me to say this in my review instead: 'This car isn't very good against all rivals, today. But don't worry, you should buy it now because Chery will be right up there with the best of them in 5-10 years.'

Spot on, do not look at purchase price but deprecation.

Well most Aussies buy a car with hire purchase, so yes, price doesn’t matter.

Sowhat your suggesting bit more coin you can score a Hyundai n line Kona /seltos sp 1.6t same underpinnings but haven't they suffered complete meng failure well after 100km and warranty has long expired and Nissan Qurashi with Renault eng and Nissan's famous CVT now what could possibly go wrong post warranty .I don't think the Chinese vehicles will be as bad as those I just mentioned

Talk to anyone that works on the Chinese garbage and you'll learn that they absolutely are worse.

Not wrong about the depreciation, the current cheapest Omoda 5 on Carsales (a 2023 Omoda 5 BX w/13k kms) is asking only $21k

In the 70's a Datsun or Toyota was lucky to last 5 years but they sold like hot cakes over the traditional brands China is in exactly the same space now
@drivingenthusiastaustralia7 ай бұрын
Agree to some level. But I think Datsuns and Toyotas of the time were actually better than some of our local stuff; more reliable, more efficient etc. These are not currently better than existing offerings. They will get there though.
@mahcooharper95777 ай бұрын
No comparison, Toyotas and Datsuns were reliable and actually moved the game forward and made the local manufacturers improve their stuff. This does nothing but undermine the industry by stealing sales from companies that actually put effort into R and D and build quality. The poor man pays twice. The $16 sunnies are cheap but they are still crap. And driving something like this is downright embarrassing.

Watch some highlights from Bathurst in the 1960's. You will see that Toyota's managed 100mph down the straight, ran all day, and beat most of the Holden's! That's why they sold.

@@mahcooharper9577 you must have existed in an alternate 1970's to me In mine, the Japanese cars were just as hard to start in the morning and rusted into a pile of red dirt within 5 years They just started out costing less and having all the trimmings of more expensive brands

Wow that's some spicy depreciation. I wouldn't want to buy one at the tail end of the warranty, or maybe i would - i'd get change from a $20 note

When you fang the DCT is when you realise they work really great. I think with slow driving the oil pressure in the transmissions is lower and makes it change funky sometimes. Not saying this thing is any good. Just a comment on DCT .

If you genuinely want one of these Chery's you are way better off buying a used unit. They are already under 25k for a 2023 model
