Looks like a winner. Bolt-BoltEUV-Equinox-Blazer is the first full lineup spanning hatchback to mid-size crossovers. Each is the value leader in their respective category. Silverado-Lyriq-Hummer are out their as flagship vehicles to pull you into the showrooms. Chevy will only be limited by how many they can build...

@@205rider8 re: "You may not want a frunk Lack but (not) having one is an indication of sub optimal component design." which first PRESUMES there's only "one" engineering/design goal, and that everybody (and they Grandma) should BLINDLY PURSUE said engineering/design goal like a dumbass. mind you a pursuit that suggests this should happen REGARDLESS of whatever accrued knowledge and expertise an entity might have already acquired - over years and decades - that tells them NOT to follow that path (into hell). thus a "recurring theme" we see with people struggling with an INFERIORITY COMPLEX, is they have great trouble recognizing the already proven wisdom, talent, and work experience of others who are in fact SMARTER than them.
@markmiller3279
@markmiller3279 Жыл бұрын
@@205rider8 That makes no sense at all. This is a simple design decision. If they had included a frunk they would have had to make the hood longer. That space has to be designed in - it doesn't show up magically because of component design choices. For whatever reason Tesla opted to include them, and most other automakers either have included very small ones or none at all. That was a reasonable decision when the vehicle already had a cargo area.
@ElliotGeno
@ElliotGeno Жыл бұрын
Then you have not had a frunk! When you go on long trips with kids, every spare inch is useful. Also, my favorite thing about frunks is putting the take out in the frunk so it doesn't stink up your new car! GM simply bought off the shelf components and did a poor job packaging them under the hood. If other AWD EVs can fit a giant frunk with a front motor, suspension and HVAC, there's no reason GM couldn't either. They just didn't bother to or skimped on it.

Great summary as always Alex. GMs site says LT2 and RS on sale Summer 2023, and RS available in 320 mile version (largest pack) in RWD configuration. Is FWD only with mid-sized battery, and that’s why FWD versions have lower range than RS RWD? Again thanks for the look at GMs show Porto!!
@111danish111
@111danish111 Жыл бұрын
My pick would be the RS 320 miles with available RWD . Is this not considered mid size battery pack ? I'll even opt for the AWD that would incur some 30 miles range penalty getting the total range below 300 miles which might be worth it for our brutal Chicagoland winters but more importantly the availability of GM Super Cruise.

Just do it with a regular blazer and equinox lo. The only real difference is just more width on the interior, just feels more roomy, a little bit more of cargo area, and more amenities. I think the offer of AWD/FWD is a lame excuse to not have a frunk. I mean, a Tesla Model 3 and Model Y with AWD still have a small-ish frunk, so there should be no excuse for the Blazer to not have room for one even with a motor up front. Tesla has a heat pump too and they found a way to package it all. Packaging is important and it sounds like GM is still not quite there when it comes to optimization of their dedicated EV models. I say this as someone who is seriously considering the Blazer SS as a replacement for an existing Tesla.
@Toymonkeyjr
@Toymonkeyjr Жыл бұрын
You realize a tesla is a luxury vehicle. It costs a lot more money and R&D to develop a vehicle that can have a frunk while being fwd/awd drive. That's where they usually have the battery pack. Just a different design. I think you neglect how complicated designing these vehicles are, especially at this price point. Plus chances are most blazer EV customers would rarely use a microscopic front trunk.
@forumtyish
@forumtyish Жыл бұрын
One can quibble over what is and isn’t “luxury”, including having various storage spaces in a utility/crossover vehicle, but in case you don’t realize, the Blazer EV is slated to offer what is arguably more luxury features than the Tesla Model Y currently offers, including ventilated seats and head-up display. I personally don’t consider the Tesla 3/Y to be a luxury vehicle, but sometimes it gets put into that category for one reason or another (to be clear, I know what the reasons are, I’m just refraining from going further down that rabbit hole here). As for R&D, the Blazer EV is using GM’s famed new Ultium platform which, in case you aren’t aware, has a modern skateboard style battery package accommodating FWD/AWD configurations. I’m not sure why you would suggest that the frunk area is where the battery pack would be on an Ultium based vehicle. I also don’t think most folks, and certainly not GM, would consider Ultium to be some sort of budget EV platform with cut-rate R&D expenditures. You can think whatever you want about my understanding of such EV platform complexities, but I think I made it clear in my previous message as to the scope of my comment regarding packaging of components, in what GM absolutely touts as a top-tier dedicated EV platform. Maybe you don’t think Blazer EV customers would have use for it, but I would like for it to have a frunk at least the size of a Tesla Model Y, which I also didn’t call microscopic. I think a lot of people would find such a thing useful. Customers, especially SUV customers, are often asking for more storage space, not less.

I have my name down for both the Blazer and Equinox, and will be deciding as we get closer to rollout as to which one I'll order. Finally, I know Chevrolet advertised the Equinox EV as being able to tow up to 1500lbs in the AWD version. Good review. I like the interior but there's a bunch of exterior aspects that bother me. 1. Rear quarter window. The vehicle looks like a sedan which was redesigned as a wagon/suv. It almost looks like theres mini camper top on the back. 2. 6-lug wheels tells me this vehicle is super heavy. Like the Lyriq I'm guessing this thing is almost a half ton heavier than a MachE, which is already a heavy vehicle. 3. Charge port door looks like it's going to break off in short order.

Not everyone buys an EV for efficiency. There's a speed and handling aspect to EVs that Chevy seems to be going for with this trim. And given that most people drive shorter distances, losing a little range for fun isn't the end of the world.

Wow, it's almost like you need larger tires for a 600hp ev with instantaneous torque as soon as you press the pedal down. Especially with inexperienced drivers hopping in this car. If they didn't put those fat tires on, I can only imagine how many lawsuits they'd be in, especially with a rwd drive model only. They can get away with it on camaros and corvette base models. But moms/dads in ev's that have never driven a fast car in the life, are definitely going to hurt themselves and others.

Sigh. Go back to the 1970s and you'll find that the difference was that a sunroof (they came first) was made of metal, and a moonroof was transparent. It had nothing to do with whether they opened or not.

Overall I really like the styling of this,..almost looks like a wagon to me(low, long and wide). One thing bugs me. Looks behind the back seat doors and you can see the side windows behind the doors are a notch lower than the front/rear door line. It just looks awkward to me. I don't know why you wouldn't just flow the rear windows along the roofline so it is smooth all the way back. It almost looks like the windows were added on later....just looks weird to me.

Looks nice however from an engineering perspective this family looks like a mid-transition from gas to full EV. Personally I will wait till 2025 to see how these really do and hold up.

@@josephhobbs4754 That's not true. Ultium LLC is a 50/50 joint venture between LG Energy Solutions and GM. Panasonic and Tesla were not a joint venture. GM needs to start working on vehicles with frunks. They are shrinking the trunk space and leaving out, arguably the best part of an EV... the extra cargo space available in a frunk!
@Toymonkeyjr
@Toymonkeyjr Жыл бұрын
If you're willing to pay 10k more msrp, then sure. That cost a lot of r&d especially with the features they're giving you and the range at that price. If you want more space just wait till they have a traverse or tahoe ev. Frunks are complicated based on the design of the battery and drive unit.
