i own a 2024 Trax 2RS... have owned it for since May 3, 2023... the transmission discord that was discussed in this piece does kind of disappear at around the 2000 mile mark. Fuel economy hovers around 32-38mpg and I run premium fuel in mine (93 octane) as it is not only turbocharged, but direct injection. After 5800 miles here in the Adirondacks of New York and our superduper swell roads, the car still does not rattle or shake. I am, however, having trouble with the window switch for the left rear window. Dealer is addressing at the time of this posting. Other than that, I genuinely love this car and feel that it would've been a homerun with a manual transmission option. The car drives far sportier than it's market segment, especially on the 19" wheels and wide tires GM put at all four corners. The suspension issue that was discussed in the video I have never experienced. The car is super planted even on long sweeping on ramps. With long trips, i found that the lower seat cushion could've been a smidge longer, but that could just be me. I am 6ft 250lbs. Anyways...

That 93 octane gas is a TOTAL waste of money! That premium gas will DO NOTHING to help prevent carbon build up on the back of the intake valves! The better thing to do is use the LOWEST VOLATILITY oil to minimize the amount of crank case oil vapor the gets sucked past the intake valves. The best oil you can buy for a GDI engine is Pennzoil "ultra platinum" full synthetic (and no I don't sell the oil). I got this information from watching "Project Farm" YT channel. He tested ALL the leading oil, including Amsoil, and found that the Penzoil was BEST for DGI engines! Happy motoring in your new Trax!

Last week got a 2025 metallic black Activ Trax, which I'm about to top 1,000 miles. What a great vehicle. Chevy nailed it. I traded in my 455 HP 2016 Camaro SS 6 speed for it, and I'm saving a ton on gas, a rough estimate 5k over the next 4 years. Not to mention insurance and maintenance. Was about to have to spend 2 to 3 grand on a clutch, and 1k in tires. For the price and what you get it's amazing. Also drawn to it because styling wise it reminded me of my Camaro, inside and out . The car drives really smooth, even compared to my Camaro with magnetic ride, and the body roll in corners, while not up to snuff to my Camaro, is great. Only thing going from a 455hp car to this one is the fun factor, but it's peppy enough. I will miss the speed of my Camaro, but what I'm saving is amazing. Plus, it's just temporary. I'm looking to buy a house when the market turns, and the money I'm saving will help tremendously. Once the house is in the rearview, I'll get another sports car. But for now this makes financial sense. Love to drive it, it looks good, and minus the drop in HP, couldn't be happier. Also, I don't have a ton of Mustangs, Challengers, and ricers wanting to race me 24/7, which I usually can't resist doing. A win/win.

With the Trax, GM has re-focused the purpose (existence) of Chevrolet: Provide a value, entry level vehicle (could be a first-time car buyer), who will eventually move to a Buick, then a Cadillac. In the late 60s after my parents married, their first car was a Bel Air. A few years later they bought a 77 Olds Cutlass, then a 1984 Buick Riviera, (mom got a 1990 Reatta) and then a 1994 de Ville. I drive a 2021 Spark, which is surprisingly good for what it is. I've used it for three long trips including recently from Phoenix to Los Angeles where it did great. (48mpg at one point and even saw three digit speed briefly) Consequently I don't care one bit about "driving dynamics" and pretending I"m a racing driver on the Nurburg Ring. The only things that matter when you are no longer 12 years old are comfort, reliability and can you afford it. The dealership has been pestering me constantly to "upgrade" to one of these ever since they came out. There are many things about it I like. I don't care about lack of AWD. AWD is a complete waste of money unless you live in Canada, Upstate, New York, Vermont, Alaska, etc where snow and ice are a real issue. Other than that it's just an expensive marketing gimmick. I note that this car seems to have the same issue my Spark has with wireless connectivity. I'm also Android and bluetooth will not maintain connectivity with the car. I have to re-connect almost every time I start the vehicle and it will sometimes disconnect while driving. Looks like it might be a GM thing. We have a Ford van at work which has never lost connection to my phone since the got it a year ago so It's a vehicle thing, not my phone. So I guess I'd be plugging in with the cable as well. The only thing that would really concern me about this vehicle is the inadequately sized engine utilizing a Turbo to try and compensate along with the wet timing belt. That alone makes me think of this vehicle as something you lease and dump before the warranty is up rather than own long term. i guess time will tell.

I'm totally fine with reviewers actually reviewing cars objectively, but there is a concerning trend over the years from car journalists to give foreign brands a free-pass on issues, while being absurdly nitpicky with American cars.

The elephant in the room to me is that 1.2 litre. I just wished GM had an optional na 2.0 or 2.5 litre engine for more reliability.
@StreetPreacherr Жыл бұрын
But what makes you sure it won't be reliable? sub 2.0 liter turbo engines have been fairly common in Europe for years... And manufacturers simulate EVERYTHING, so they should have a good idea about reliability... It also makes 162 lb-ft of TORQUE thanks to the turbo, which is 30 lb-ft more than you get on a base 2.0L 4 cyl Mazda 3!
@jamesmyers92854 ай бұрын
The turbo 3-cylinder engine would be a concern as far as longevity. A friend had a Bronco Sport with a 3-cylinder engine and it was a POC! Many brands have stumbling transmissions, most notably another friend's Honda Odyssey with a nine-speed automatic.

Lots of questions about the engine and reliability. It's never mentioned here, but this is not a GM design, it originally was designed by PSA and has been around for almost a decade. Biggest concern is the timing belt in oil and your decision to use the correct oil and adhere to frequent OCIs.

As for the brown color: my Chevy Malibu was the color of a UPS truck. But it lasted 17 years and was still going strong. My father would not allow me to drive it anymore because he said the floor was too rusted. I think it would have been okay and I could have gotten more years out of it.

I do use CR when making decisions on purchases. I have never watched a CR video like this before. I found it very interesting. As for the Trax, almost anyone who pays attention the statistics already knows how reliable it will be. Finally, the fuel economy numbers listed on the Chevy website would make this a hard pass! 30mpg? That is an awful number given the drive train. I remember when the cheapest cars had the best mpg.
@Buc_Stops_Here Жыл бұрын
Because to make it among the cheapest cars on the road, it uses old tech (6 speed auto) with new less expensive tech (3 cylinder engine). You don't want that, spend an additional $5000 and buy a gas engine Toyota Corolla. Better gas mileage, better tech. Or spend $8000 more and get the Corolla Hybrid.

Reliability is still an unknown. The "old" Trax was MUCH above average in reliability, according to CR! I trust CR's data. Having recently purchased a USED 2020 Blazer 2LT V6 with 52000miles on the clock. I have owned it for only 7mo, had absolutely ZERO issues! And ZERO recalls. I purchased it because it already on CR's list of "The Most Reliable Used Cars" list and I wasn't disappointed. Thanks CR!!!

Why must you have people talking crap on great affordable vehicles like the Trax don't drive one if your gonna complain like babies go buy your $100000 lame vehicles. It isn't any heavier than a Malibu. It drives 'lite'. You feel every bump. But it does have nice features. I got one 6 weeks ago, and the more I drove it the more I liked it. But I've been reading about some 2024 Traxes blowing holes in their engines with only a few thousand miles on them, I'm guessing because the timing goes off or some spark timing software bug that might affect some of the vehicles - pistons collide with the valves, or whatever else happens, and engine parts are shot out of the engine block. Look for Trax Engine Failure. Posts that are recently dated are still saying it's happening, even after a spark timing software recall that was applied recently.

As my Chevrolet Cruze with a turbo as twice. If you want to really know about this car, then watch this video. Should you buy a 2024 Chevrolet Trax> by The car care nut. A real eye opener for me. Many have said it- there is no such thing as a bad new cars. Yes, some are better than others, often in different areas, but overall, all cars are decent. Hybrids have higher fuel economy and better start/stop but have a CVT and higher starting price along with a battery replacement in 10-15 years. KIA’s are great cars to lease, Toyotas and Hondas are great for keeping it 10+ years (Toyota less with the subscriptions required). Some cars have higher safety than others. As a car… any modern new vehicle is going to get you from A-B for the most part. That is why vehicles are considerably more expensive now. Automakers have forced us to think we need expensive vehicles, AWD, high vehicles, big engines, 3 rows, beds, hitches, towing capacity, etc. We don’t. The automakers can suffer now- people who won’t buy it because it is not AWD.
