It makes me laugh that all these experts say the Oilers played well, it's all good, the next game will have a different outcome. What they fail to point out is that a team that didn't play well, still beat an oiler team that "dominated" them. What happens if Florida doesn't play the rest of their games so poorly. What happens if they play their best. I'm sick of "deserve to win". You lost. Florida has lots of room for improvement and Edmonton doesn't...if you can't beat a team at their worst you aren't beating them at their best.

I think it's a plenty valid stat; it puts numbers to the eye test of a game's expected outcome versus its actual outcome. It's basically shooting a hypothetical "chance to win" based on all of the stats outside of goals scored--stats that tend to dictate the outcome of a game like shots on goal, scoring chances, zone time, and high-danger opportunities. It isn't saying that the Oilers deserved the win just because they were statistically better than the Panthers, but it is instead basically putting a theoretical number on the more intangible aspects of the game that might not immediately pop out, most notably on goalie play, shot play, and defensive box-outs; the Panthers did a very good job limiting access to juicy rebounds by boxing out in front of the crease, which isn't really a quantifiable stat, to give an example. The problem with the stat is that I feel it gets read wrong a lot. People treat it like a metric to how badly one team choked away a game they should've won (not the case), or they take the "deserve to win" part far too seriously.

As a Panthers' fan, I think Bob facing and stopping so many breakaways is good for his confidence going forward. We've all seen him not look so great. I think the Panthers will tighten up in game 2 like they did in the 3rd period of game 1. Oilers will make adjustments too. Game 2 should be even better than game 1. Bob remained humble during post game interviews because he knows how dangerous the Oilers are and how quickly things can change. Really hoping he can win his first Stanley Cup along with Paul Maurice. They both deserve it more than any other players on the team, IMO. They've put their time in.

Skinner needs to work in a tandem situation in net. The Oil need another goalie who can play 30 to 40 games. The fact that goalies are the most difficult to replace, as there seem to be so few available as of late, is a strong reason to keep Skinner.

Edmonton needs this to be a pure back in forth series, if they can enter game five tied 2-2 and force a game 7 even though it would be in Florida I think they’d have the advantage. Problem is I just don’t think we see Florida play like this again, hell I don’t even think Florida played bad this game they just parked the bus hard after their first goal(something Edmonton has been doing all postseason) For that reason I have Florida in five but don’t be surprised if this is one of those five game finals that are shockingly close like 2018 or 2014.

That is the only reason they lost. They played better. And this was not Florida’s worst game as many have said. I saw all the incredible things they do on the defensive end this game. Didn’t matter - Oilers still created high danger chance after high danger chance. They got an all time goalie performance and that’s it. Thing is, I don't think Bobrovsky stole this. He was really solid, but he didn't have all that many really tough saves to make. His defense was forcing the Oilers to make low percentage shots. The TEAM earned the shutout, if you ask me.

@@200iq-killswitch8 He did, and I'm not saying he didn't play well. I'm just saying that overall, he didn't have a lot of difficult saves to make. A few, but not many.

Normally the Panthers dominate to the point where you'd think they'd have more goals and their opponent wins. It seems this game was the opposite, as the Panthers were the ones who capitalized despite being outshot terribly. Thank goodness for Bob, but the Panthers will be even better name game. Oilers can strike in a heartbeat and Bob knows that.

Panthers play like last night 900 times they win it 1300 times. The other side of your coin GENIUS. Your still young though.

Honestly the Oilers may have dominated shots but none were actually dangerous
@pennyd.36515 ай бұрын
They had like 3 break aways and the were all super easy saves too, like wtf is 'dominated' while being diwn the entire game lmfao
@aidandunne59785 ай бұрын
Disagree a bit there. Bob had to ROB a few people. That sliding pinwheel stack the pads save on a wide open net? That save on Hyman where he went forehand backhand and Bob had to do the splits? I don't think it was domination, but that game should have been 2-2 or 2-1 Oilers by the end of the 3rd (that Rodriguez goal was pretty bad from Skinner)
@pennyd.36515 ай бұрын
@aidandunne5978 Then you probably don't really watch hockey. This has been Floridas shut shit down style of play when leading and feeling comfortable. Box out and allow bob to see the shot come in, it leads to some 'incredible' saves but the panthers know bob is capable so they play in such a way that bob is allowed to do stuff like that. If the oilers had scored the game would've been turned upside down by the panthers and things would've ended very lopsided like we've seen in other series so far.
@aidandunne59785 ай бұрын
@pennyd.3651 watched hockey for 11 years, played for 9, don't know why you felt the need to make that argument: But just because they trust Bob to make those saves doesn't mean they aren't good chances. A lesser goalie wouldn't make those saves. An elite goalie playing great does not mean the chances aren't great. Saves that look easy can still be great saves because the goaltender had excellent technique and read the play super well. That doesn't mean it wasn't a good chance, it just means the goalie was on their game. Bob was

The alternative to this POV is that it’s highly unlikely the Panthers play such a horrible game again (let alone on home ice), so if the Oilers couldn’t win tonight, how are they going to win when the real Panthers show up?
@bogeyt15games555 ай бұрын
This game could have been so much different is a couple bounces just went the other way…. All the oilers have to do is do what they did tonight and they win 99.9% of the time…. Florida is the one that needs to answer the call and show everyone tonight wasn’t just a fluke

As sad as it was to see as an oilers fan that game was awesome. If bob can play like that every game he most definitely deserves the cup.

Im betting Edmonton will get frustrated, start to overcommitt offensively and get blown out one of these games, mcdavid needs to sacrifice and drive the net not take one timers, one offs are not going to beat Bob right now, he's in the zone, and I don't see enough greasy goal scorers on Edmonton. Florida in 5.
@edobkin5 ай бұрын
Most likely outcome? Regression to the means. 2-2 going into the third, Panthers find a way to get one late and the boa constrictor closes out the game. Neither Bob, nor the Oilers, should be as good as game 1. And the team play for the Panthers will bounce back. Oilers will go home down 0-2.
