I can’t bring myself to spend that much for s30v and micarta. It is a beautiful knife though.

For sure except even more for me with a small knife. I rather a company partially make a knife and chase a super steels but then then just let me finish it off for cheap and give me more steel. High quality knifes got cheap and since a knife has got to be the best at its price point that means the only thing to change with price is steel type. How could buck complete if a 40 dollar knife has d2 or a 40 dollar knife that has m390. Where does that leave buck. Unless they find want people want, their not ahead on steel, price or functional design.

@ I think their customer base is almost entirely comprised of those who like Buck for nostalgic reasons. They had one as a child… or their grandfather had one. I do like their knives. I have around 30 of them. From sprint runs to customs to Buck of the Months. It’s my most carried brand. But there’s a point where the materials have to balance with the price. I expect the Made in USA to add to the cost.. but this one exceeds even that. I’d love to know how much the top executives earn. My guess is they’d rather run the company into the ground than take a pay cut to make the knives affordable to the ppl who buy them. A Buck, with Buck materials at Microtech prices, isn’t for most.

@@vwr32jeep i bet they dont make as much and dont sell as many knifes as most companies. If Grandparent nostalgia sells it sells less over time. I bet there movie fame is down now too. Also the harbor freight 119 clone cut out the new cheapest people around being way cheaper and going for a slightly higher carbon stainless steel but then again harbor freight had much bigger cheap knifes anyways and the used market is still there too. I would think sales are down but I could be wrong. There is only so many times you can sell the same thing unless its food and at least a few people inherit old knifes. S30 might be a new steel for them so cost might really be going for them now for not grabbing new equipment earlier on.
