In this episode of Declutter With Me 2024, I tackle a drop zone, AKA Hot Spot, namely my staircase, where all manner of nonsense lands because I just can't make a decision to put things away as I go. Ain't that the truth!

I've decluttered my apartment also threw away 2 containers that were just collecting junk once I got rid of them my bedroom gained space and ev stays in order .I feel so much space when I walk in my bedroom ❤

I can’t remember where I heard this but someone said that procrastination comes from being a perfectionist. If you don’t think you have the time to do something perfectly you set it aside until you do.

That can be it for some people. For others like me, I think orderliness is just not a priority. You become clutter blind.

I've been using a basket too to carry stuff from floor to floor for many years. I bought it when I was in Morocco (over 30 years ago!). It's rather roomy and I call it the 'upstairs downstairs basket'.

💜👍 My laundry room is like my mudroom and it is definitely a catch all! We don’t enter through our front door we go through garage and into laundry room. Although in 2023 I worked on doing “PUPA” (pick up and put away) at least 3 times a week and it has really helped daily clutter. Kudos Sophia! 💜

I love the psychological insights you offer us in your chit chats… for example that there IS an organizational principle in a drop zone!!! Maybe, with your children being older, you have entered a new phase of life which makes it easier to focus on yourself.

I like the idea of you putting those paper packs in your little library….otherwise items like that you can definitely donate!! Crafters love finding those sorts of things still in good shape but for a fraction of the cost! 🥰👍🏻

Donate the paper!! Goodwill puts things like that in large ziploc bags and bundles them with things like pens and markers etc. putting them in you little library is good idea too!

It’s a wonder somebody has not tripped over the stuff on the stairs. No problem with having hot spots but the stairs might not be the best place to pile stuff up as it becomes a safety issue.

Sophia I 1st want to address how amazing you look. You are beautiful. 2nd loving another decluttering series, Yay🙆‍♀️ I always use either my adorable strawberry bag or my basket to take things up and down the stairs. However when I go up so does the bag/basket, & vice versa . So that is excellent advice. Yes I agree i always get mad at myself for putting it off so long because it doesn't take that long. Your staircase looks very nice all empty and shiny, but most of all, it sure looks a lot safer ! I never let me or my family put anything on the stairs because I was always very afraid of tripping and falling on it! I had very steep, narrow steps as a child and I managed to fall from the top, twice. Of course, I always managed to go down head first!! Nothing was on the stairs but I was carrying too much and got tangled up and fell. But, the fear of steps was installed in my brain. In fact, I have a great fear of all heights now.

Miscellaneous craft items that are still good, but no longer needed: I put them in a zip lock bag and donate them. You can donate to schools/churches/charities.

I donated to church Sunday school and 4-H. My fantasy self thought I was going to use all of those craft supplies! that crazy girl! I’m in my 70’s and garment sewing is my passion, not scrapbooking, etc.

Well done! I have a ranch house with only stairs to basement but I still have clutter places. I was laughing so hard with you because I know. My problem with my stairs is my car parks in the basement & when I have groceries it's horrible getting them upstairs. Sometimes I start putting them on the steps then start taking up a few at a time Tommy used to help but he can't anymore so I have to do it all. Bless his heart but I'm wiped out.

Great job. I also use a stair basket to bring things upstairs. It's so much easier. Another thing I do is keep some things like lipstick in a duplicate small bin downstairs. But I have a powder room on the main floor with a vanity so that works for this house. Keep up the good work Sophia.

Steps going up to my second story are a hot zone too, I need to work on having the kids take their books and toys up to their rooms, not just set them in the steps! Looks so much better when the clutter is gone and having crsp on the stairs is also a big safety hazard!!! Thanks for taking us through all the things!

I put little things on the stairs and the next time I go upstairs (our laundry room is upstairs). I take them and put them away because I don't like seeing things left out. Things never pile up because I always take them the next time I have to go up. Siinmple!

The biggest concern I have about anything left on anybody's stairs (or floors) is the fall risk. Otherwise you are fine!

Yay! I am so excited to see a decluttering video from you already this year Sophia! I really need the inspo! I have seen other KZbinrs do IPL. You have to be clean shaven to do it and it takes months before you see any results. I bought one a year ago and have used it a few times, but to be honest I am afraid of it too and don't know if it is working or not. I stopped using it over the summer because it doesn't work if you are tan and haven't gotten back to it. JosieLDN has done many videos on it if you want to check them out. I think she started in 2020 during lockdown when she couldn't get to the salon.

I am getting much better with smaller hot spots, but it is my den behind closed doors that has become a hot room. My storage room in the condo was flooded any salvable useful items are in my den. So I have that and additional balcony furniture in there as its winter in Canada. I open the door and close it. Storage locker still not useable.

I have a stair basket that has the indent for the stairs; I need to get on the routine of putting everything away once a week. My bedroom is in attic 14 stairs up and laundry in basement 14 stairs down. I agree that a ranch house would be much easier to maintain.

Sofia, Regarding the Ulike hair remover. My daughter asked for this for Christmas and she says it doesn't hurt She was also a little nervous. As for who to do the video, you should realize that this is for long term results. You shave before using, it zaps the hair follicles...so no hair legs needed for demo. For a first video, you can only demo whether it hurts or not. To show results - you need to use for 30-90 days - which would mean you take hairy legs before starting and then show growth density after prolonged use. Just thought I would provide more info - so you could decide how to best proceed.

It s the same thing. Declutter organize clean (DOC) I have all my tasks for the year in my planner. But you can use a jar if you want.
